Reminds me of a study I've read that found out that extremists on both parts of the political spectrum are the most likely to end friendships over political opinions, but other than that it's democrats (in the US) who are more likely to do so than republicans. The most tolerant of other political opinions of their friends were independents.

Far leaning liberals tend to live in places where they are surrounded by others who think like them.
