There's an interview vlog DPA did with Rudy, after the rekease of XXI Century Blood LP, a month after he was hired. The interview was very interesting. You can tell Rudy was figuring who this band is & DPA was figuring out who Rudy is. Turned out Rudy was the right fit with this band.

Even with their early Vlogs, they were open, truthful, and charming. The more comfortable they became with being in front of the camera, the funnier and more personable they became. Their openness has always been endearing. They are now 'naturals' concerning their interviews.

Just to clarify, they were so nice talking about that recording studio experience. it wasn't good. Finally they recorded QOTMS at SOGA Recordings in Cuernavaca Morelos, Mexico with the producer Jake Carmona. Besides being rock stars they are smart, humble, funny and the nicest people on earth! Viva The Warning!! ⚡⚡⚡

Ya thank you.. That makes sense now. I’m thinking I’ll do a reaction and theorize a bit about their very polite vlogs about sphere studios staff… since it seems to have been a negative. And I’ll stop pretending that giving ale a box of picks was rational… because the more i think about it, the more that rubs me the wrong way.

I love that Dany still has an accent when speaking English. It seem the younger girls grasp the English language a little better but I think with Dany as the lead singer , the accent and pronunciation of words adds a unique element to her singing voice. She's definitely my all time female rock singer and I love how deep her singing voice but she can also hit higher notes especially now she older and has more practice.
@don-music
@don-music Год назад
Ya agreed… she has lost most of her accent by now but it still pops in at times when she’s distracted, but they all are funny when they are speaking Spanish and say an English phrase or name with a Spanish accent lol then one makes fun of the other for doing that lol

I've seen this vlog/interview and it always felt a little awkward to me, They didn't appear as relaxed as they usually do during their vlogs, and it seemed they were being really careful about how they were phrasing things and they kept darting looks at each other before answering the questions. It was weird. I'm glad they took away some really helpful things from their experience in L.A. that helped them grow as musicians, but I don't think that studio was a good fit for them and I don't think they had a particularly positive experience there. And, as I understand it, they ended up not using any of the material they recorded there.
@kohlmcmullen
@kohlmcmullen Год назад
Yeah they are being careful about what they say. They didn't enjoy the experience at this studio. The behind the scenes videos on patreon show them really frustrated with the producers. Particularly Dany was not happy with how much they were changing the songs and she let them know about it.

Man, that sounds serious. The physical studio sounds excellent... it's awful that the people working in it at that time created a bad experience for DPA.
@roywall8169
@roywall8169 Год назад
@@don-music the producers had no idea who DPA were. They made snap judgements, and acted very unprofessionally. All the producers saw was three teens, that wanted fame and fortune above all else. They had no idea that DPA had been to Berklee. They could care less that the girls had already written an entire album. They actually told the band that they did not know what they were doing, and the best thing for DPA was be quiet and let the professionals do their thing. Dany being the oldest, took the brunt of the abuse. She felt it was her job to be the mouthpiece for her sisters. She did everything possible to fight for their vision of QOTMS. During the session, the band left to go open for the Killers in Monterrey against the advice of the producers. Dany and Luis flew back immediately after the second show, only to find the producers had hired a studio musician to re write and record all of Dany’s guitar parts. She was shattered. Studio musicians being used is not a new thing, but keep in mind that this was an independent production. There were no label heads calling the shots. The producers just took it upon themselves to usurp the process. When Dany called them on it, she was told she would never be good enough to record her own music. All this happened without her sisters even knowing what was going on. If I was Luis, there would have been some producers picking themselves ip off the floor. This was not the only incident the girls had to endure. Through the entire process, the band chose to absorb whatever came their way, and use it as a learning tool. Not once have they ever bad mouthed the producers, or spoken poorly of Sphere studio. They have too much class for that.

@@don-music Not everything in their past associations has been a fairytale story. They are dealing with parts of the music industry, after all. And a lot of that infrastructure is founded on some pretty shady practices and sketchy operations. It has always been like that. Although The Warning has great management and have been sheltered by their immediate and extended family from a lot of the negative aspects of the business, they have seen things. And I'm sure their protectors have explained things as they go through them. Plus, it ain't easy being girls in the Rock Music genre, though I think that has changed a good bit and some of that has been due to their example and that of others like Lzzy Hale and pioneers of female led Rock music like Joan Jett, Lita Ford, Ann and Nancy Wilson. The negative experiences serve to make them more savvy and resiliant, plus they don't seem to have any trouble saying no when things don't feel right to them.

Hi! Just want to appreciate your video reviews of The Warning. The are always well-balanced regarding the whole band. Many reactors are so caught up by Pau (who is truly amazing) that Ale and Dany seem not to exist. As a music fan, but with no experience or talent for that matter, i began to wonder if maybe their skills were lacking. After watching several of your videos today, i learned that my gut feelings were valid. From the first video, i felt that this is the best band that i have heard in the last 20 years. I may not be able to play music but I sure do know how appreciate good music.

When I saw them open up for Halestorm I saw The Pretty Reckless bassist mostly play with fingers, but he did switch to pick sometimes. I’ve seen on RU-vid Nemophila’s bassist play with fingers and or pick. Is it a new thing where bassist switch? John Entwistle the bassist for The Who , I don’t think he ever used a pick. In my opinion he was one of best bass players for rock ever.
@don-music
@don-music Год назад
Not new... I did it occasionally in the 80s and 90s. But I think most people choose a technique and mostly stick with it. Songs with repeating picking of the SAME string can be much easier with a pickt than finger style. But yea, it might be a trend now because social media spreads ideas so much faster, and if someone does it, then others do. But I've known people who'd told me to play with a pick over the years, and immediately get my back up and mention that most producers used to give me repeat session work because I DIDN'T play with a pick.. but that's just me being me LoL.

At this age, the idea that "these are professionals"... like they are not. That's part of being a teen, and also them thinking "This is _only_ our second (third, maybe) album, and the first time we've worked with people we don't know, and we grew up to respect our elders and these are the sort of people our dad works with..." It's a tad intimidating. And yet... many bands are never even able to craft a *single* full album that gets "printed" (whatever that means these days). They are _already_ "professionals" themselves; dedicated to their craft, determined to create what they envisioned and created themselves and put it out there, and already taking in money for their work - be it from crowd-funding, or ticket sales, or wherever, they are funding their instruments, paying people on their team, and *working* a true at this point. They simply haven't fully realized it yet. It's still all too new. They just don't realize that "the adults in the room", when they were at that studio, see them as just as "professional" as they see the studio people. Having watched them grow over the past four years or so, all I can say is "Good kids." Their folks should be proud, and I'm sure they are.
@don-music
@don-music Год назад
Exactly. I agree. However at least one of the decisions of the producers i am irked with, as I’m nearly done a reaction video to the entire sphere (non patreon) short vlogs. But i also suspect that some of it is that the band was not yet ready to fight for themselves. Based on bendeth, they certainly had learned to fight for themselves by the third album, and probably the failure of the sphere sessions helped to build their internal fight and strength so they are even stronger and better as a result!

Don, at 17:05-17:13 of your video, is that Ale stretching her own Alion fingers? Is that genetic perhaps? It is clear that the experience at Sphere was frustrating, but educational. Not everything goes the way you hope. I have always found that challenging situations are often helpful in helping you to look at your goals and path in new light. SOmetimes you see that you need to make changes, sometimes, however, you see that you really did have a good vision and some challenge to that reaffirms that for you. How they have gained so much wisdom at their age is pretty amazing. Their team is clearly exceptional.

Isn't "delaying the guitar" the technical setting or adjustment that makes it sound bigger or expanded? Not a guitar person, but I thought I picked up something like that when listening to some more technical reviewers.
@don-music
@don-music Год назад
That could be what she was referring to, totally. I’ve never heard it referred to how she did, but she was describing it in passing in a vlog with language differences and so on, so i totally get why it is unspecific. I mean, most engineers don’t add delay to guitar tracks but instead get the guitarist to record multiple tracks and that adds a much more full sound, but adding a delay to one or both panned guitar tracks can be magical also.
@charlielightfoot7006
@charlielightfoot7006 Год назад
@@don-music I would think recording multiple tracks would mean having to reproduce that by adding a backing track during a live performance, which they do but they also prefer to minimize that. Maybe that was a more recent development that they tried to reproduce the live performance in the recording studio.
@don-music
@don-music Год назад
Oh ya i just meant multiple tracks of the same guitar part. Everybody does that in the studio.. and pan them in different ways and eq them differently. Dany emulate that live with stereo amp modelling. I was not referring to different musical parts… although she does lots if that on the studio also… lol she’s got to be her own worst enemy for creating studio versions that are challenging to reproduce live, but I’m certain she keeps it all in mind in the studio and knows what she is capable of handling live.
@KelleyJ303
@KelleyJ303 Год назад
I actually think that Dany talking about delaying the guitars was in reference to them not doing the guitar tracks until they got back from playing The Killers concert. Pau and Ale had already been working on their parts in the days prior and Dany was looking forward to working with the guitars and it had to be put off so they could go open for The Killers.
