A street gang known as The Warriors Movie 1979 must fight their way from the Bronx to their home turf on Coney Island when they are falsely accused of assassinating a respected gang leader.
Cyrus, the leader of the most powerful gang in New York City, the Gramercy Riffs, calls a midnight summit for all the area gangs, with all asked to send nine unarmed representatives for the conclave. A gang called The Warriors are blamed for killing Cyrus as he gives his speech. They now have to cross the territory of rivals in order to get to their own 'hood. The Warriors slowly cross the dangerous Bronx and Manhattan territories, narrowly escaping police and other gangs every step of the way.

Almost the same. I had an aunt who was alive at the time with her three sons in the same house. The sons were around the same age range as these guys. They had spoken about the 70s and cherished it dearly. When her oldest son passed away in 84, they never were the same or moved on with the times. Back in the late 80s to late 90s when I went visit them. The aura in that house and even in the neighborhood they were in never moved on from the 70s. Right now, it's just one of them still alive. Whenever I watched the Warriors including other movies from the 70s, I always remembered them. I heard listened to a person once and said that, if you had the best time of your life in that decade, be sure the next period won't be the same.

Is it still well known that this most excellent movie is a retelling of the Greek writer Xenophon’s Anabasis (the Expedition) telling how 10,000 Greek mercenaries were hired to fight for the pretender to the Persian crown, Cyrus the Younger? Stranded in Persia the Greek army fought their way to the shores of the Black Sea. It is said that on seeing the water, the cry went up..”Thalatta, Thalatta!” meaning ‘The Sea The Sea!’ Being seafaring Greeks, they knew that once they had found the ocean they could build ships and get home… it’s a great tale and I think Xenophon would not be ashamed to have it hold well as this film does…

The Warriors and The Wanderers, the two best gang movies ever.

What I love about The Wanderers is that it was ultimately about brotherhood, not proving one's manhood. It was about both the strength and vulnerability of the male ego as boyhood comes to an end. The farewell scene proves my point when the Wanderers say goodbye to each other in a poignant way. Then again..."Wanderers forever."

not for nothing but an army from Africa along with tanks, planes and ships is headed to Gaza while attention is turned to Lebanon to defend illegal settlements

I never understood how the Riffs found out the truth. It's not like the Warriors were wearing wires that they could listen in on. Suddenly they're just there.

i always thought the riffs only found out when they saw the confrontation with the warriors and rogues in this scene. seeing Luther had a gun and came to the conclusion it was Luther that shot Cyrus. The riffs believed the warriors did it and know they are from Coney so only natural for them to go to the warriors turf to find them getting there just after the rogues.

Dude, I remember Rockaway Beach during this period. A lot of crazy non affiliated gangs. Every other block had a gang. Not a "Real" gang, just a group of hang around. I remember heading out to SI on the weekends, hitting the haunted cafe and whatnot. Just brings back memories......

Going home and away following my local seaside football team during the seventies in the UK was a bit like this. Sometimes you had to fight your way to the games and back home again.
