I'm a recently retired MSG in the USA and love what our band brings to the table. I'm glad they are showing emotion as they play. They feel the rhythm and are having fun. In contrast, I looked up the Marine Corps rendition of this splendidly composed jam by Sousa, and they were not as fluid. Plus, we have a lady maestro!

I didn't recognise the name of this piece (having learned it by ear) then clicked on it and was instantly transported to marching in the Memorial Day Parades. Ah, a good time- walking five miles in two or three towns while playing the same song over and over really bonded a bunch of kids. I was on flute, in the back, and couldn't walk straight with the flute straight too!

Excellent and stirring Washington Post by Sousa, the "March King" ! My Brother, Uncle, two cousins and myself served in U.S. Army Ill. Nat. Guard, Peacetime 1956-59, Army WW I, and Vietnam. I used to play E flat Bass trombone four years in Band and Orchestra at South Shore High School in Chicago (1961-65) and we played Washington Post, Stars & Stripes Forever, Under the Double Headed Eagle etc. for Assemblies and ROTC Annual Federal Field Inspections and Review ! Our conductor Samuel Gorbach was a big Sousa Fan ! Those Band and Orchestra days are full of fond memories. We performed and provided the musical interlude for the 1962 School reception of Dr. James Dewey Watson of DNA fame who was a 1941 Alumnus of our High School in Chicago ! ARMY the Best !
