I didn't know any of this but I do know that it was British Officers during WW1 who were issued watches for obvious reasons. Also, you are right....No one would mess with those men.

Brand Loyalty is a powerful tool as it is unspoken code for status/privilege. Consumerism (shopping as a sport) is also a real thing that plays into our decision-making. Once I hit my late 50s/early 60s, I had to ask myself: 'How much is too much?' My father left this world with a closet full of very nice clothes. Many of those clothes had never been worn. My mother (in her state of mourning) asked out loud: 'Did your father think these new and unworn things were more important than sharing experiences with us?' After possessing the 2nd of anything, it does raise a question of priorities and where one places importance. My 'watch spend' goes into properties and experiences instead of another watch, car, computer, etc.

My father, a barrister, bought a gold Rolex before he was 40. He later frequently expressed regret at what he considered a waste of money, saying its only worth was 'snob value'. My favourite watch is Seiko/Citizen/Lorus. The trend for larger and larger watch faces also applies to women's watches but my view is the smaller the better. I have unusually slender wrists even for a woman. I also collect vintage ladies watches, especially Swiss made ones.

Your father was right. Rolex watches literally lose half its value when left shop, then the value just declines from there (unless that perticular model becomes iconic due to a movie or something).

@@maxpaws3977 come on man, thats not correct. Rolex watches either hold value or go up when bought new. I do agree they are massively over priced and there is a massive mark up for the snob value....but they dont lose 50% of their value when bought

It's also a very 1980s type of "snob value". In more recent years a _gold_ Rolex might have acquired a little bit of a "bling-bling" image - maybe more like a rap-star than a barrister, etc...?

That CWC bears a resemblance to your explorer....totally correct re the 36mm statements, for me 35mm-38mm is the optimum size...people who.say these are for woman. Thats nonsense. 36mm is a traditional size, stay true to heritage and tradition. My week day watch is my grandfather''s 36mm Omega Geneve from the 1960s....im delighted to wear it

The CWC dive watches are actually 41mm without the crown , so they’re perfectly well sized for every day life. Similarly the field watch is 36mm. The larger measurement also includes the crown. 😊

Still have the Tag that I bought with money saved on my second operational tour in the Balkans. Never felt the need for another. Strangely for daily wear, I go with my Garmin forerunner 45. Wore a CWC issue G10 watch in Afghanistan; solid, reliable and accurate.

The Tag has been worn for everything: skiing, scuba diving, parachuting, black tie dinners. No regrets. When I had the money to buy a rolex or omega, I didn't feel the need to buy one. Likewise a Mont Blanc pen.

I am surprised at your decision but it was well thought out. I also had a Rolex for about 10 years but sold it when I found out what they wanted for a cleaning. My watch of choice is a Seiko, I've worn them for most of my life and have been satisfied with their performance. One of my Seikos is 45 years old and is working fine. My present watch is a Seico MarineMaster, best described as a TOOL. It is big,bulky, and heavy. I love it. Every time I look at it I smile, I don't care if it looks big on me, it's the watch for me.

A 45 years old Seiko without a service in its life? That's hard to believe. I have never had a Seiko, but people say that throwing the watch away and buying a new one is much, much cheaper than trying to service a Seiko, unless for sentimental values. Even then, buying a new movement and throwing the old one away is much more cost-effective.

I've got several Seikos, 3 over 30 years old, all work fine and none serviced. The only reason I have several is I just like the way they look and feel. You should try one.

I have a Tudor, but must admit that the best watch I own is an old Seiko 5 - had it 20 years, never had it serviced, and it’s never missed a beat. Daft thing is, I like it more than the Tudor because I don’t ever need to worry about it being stolen, or me damaging it!

For me, it is the Tudor Black Bay Silver and Gold with the champagne dial. An absolutely wonderful watch that can be worn with almost everything. It's the watch I return to again and again. Not as top heavy as a Rolex diver, but still has all the attributes I like. Tudor exudes quality.

I’m 3rd generation military (RN.), Iv owned CWC before being issued Elliot Brown, my grandfather had Rolex my dad has Omega’s. I always joked why didn’t I get issued a Rolex or Omega then my dad reminds me they used to be attainable for the average man on the street before the hype. Incidentally I swear by my Elliot Brown now and would never part with it.

Favorite: Rolex 18k gold oyster perpetual day date. I’ve had it for over 25 years. I’ve also had others. I don’t like overly large watches. It fits better than any other in my collection. Most comfortable watch I own except for leather bands. Second: Omega Sea Master. I am a former military diver. For some reason, when not wearing the Rolex I reach for the Omega. 007 Theme. About 25 yrs old.

Hi Ash. I am from the Bristol area. I think you are confusing John Cabot with Edward Colston. Cabot was alive long before the slave trade started. There is a statue to Cabot on the harbour, and Bristols newest shopping area is called Cabot Circus. Colston gave his name to many landmarks in the city, and some of these have now changed, Colston Hall for instance. It was the statue of Colston that was famously dumped in the harbour. Whilst on the subject of statues in Bristol, I'm sure you are aware that there is another one of a famous son of Bristol which will resonate with your good self and viewers of your channel. It can be found in Millennium Square. Born as Archibald Leach in 1904 at Horfield in Bristol, he would go on to be one of the most famous Hollywood actors of all time and a true icon of men's style. The world knows him as Cary Grant. In his own words, he "favoured the clothes of a well dressed, sophisticated chap." Even the statue is debonair.

Very thoughtful episode, as always. I have two very similar watches, both gifts from my husband, with understated round cases and integral woven metal bracelets. Your comments about the Rolex "journey" resonate with a lot of comments in the luxury blogosphere over the last few years about the "Hermes journey" [and, to a lesser extent, the "Chanel journey"] -- where the customer tracking abilities that allow stores to keep track of each customer's purchases and decide who has spent "enough" on subsidiary items, like home items, scarves, or small leather goods, in order to earn the possibility of being "offered" a trophy bag, such as an Hermes Kelly or Birkin. Fortunately, I don't like either! I do like the Hermes Lindy, which is far less recognized, and I am more than happy to buy in the pre-loved market rather than deal with snooty salespeople who think they're doing me a favor to show me a massively expensive agglomeration of leather. My husband has been a watch connoisseur and our son has no use for his father's watch collection -- his timepiece of choice comes from Apple when he bothers with a watch at all.

Hello Ash, I have been wearing a Breitling Chronomat and a black Sinn 144 ST in black for 20 years. When I graduated from high school, I had the choice between Rolex and Breitling. Breitling had the higher quality bracelet back then. In terms of design, I decided in favour of this brand out of instinct. I always liked the Rolex Pepsi because of the film Magnum. Two years ago, I actually got the same one you have in steel, although I had only been on the waiting list for a year. Probably thanks to Corona. For two years now, I've been struggling with the reasons you mentioned and am considering selling the watch again. In fact, I've been wearing a Damasko DC66 in black for two years now. I enjoy it every day. Damasko supplies the Euro Fighter pilots of the German Armed Forces. The black colour of the watches is ice-hardened, which makes them extremely scratch-resistant. Damasko is a small watch manufacturer in Bavaria and also offers beautiful watches with a military look. Greetings from Switzerland.

The watch that truely defines and resonates with me is my Credor Signo. Ive been a Seiko fan as long as i can remember. The first watch i ever bought was a quartz Seiko which i saved up for all summer when i was just 12 years old. My grandfather also wore Seiko timepieces his entire life, up untill the day he passed away. So i have quite a personal connection to the brand. The Signo truely feels like a accomplishment to me. Its so refined, has a beautiful dial and a incredibly comfortable bracelet. I wear it nearly everyday!

I started out my watch journey with a citizen eco-drive watch because I always go for tools that are self-sufficient, inexpensive, and maintenance free. Over the years the watch community influenced my thoughts and led me to buy some decent automatic watches that I was convinced I loved. Now, about 12 years into the hobby, I did a full 180, decided to just be honest with myself and am enjoying a rotation of 3 eco-drive watches, with all my automatics sitting in my watchbox.

I must point out the significance of your remark about how so many watch enthusiasts (myself included) have it all twisted. We are sucked in by the brand-speak & marketing so much so that we feel ought to be thankful towards the dealers who sell us these expensive trinkets. We forget… without the customer, there is no “Rolex”. Hence, the purchase should be an experience worthy of the outlay. Class act as always 👏

I totally agree. It’s just a watch. When you step back (and it’s difficult to do), the Rolex thing doesn’t make much sense, unless it’s “the one” and you keep it on your wrist for 20+ years. The positive point is that you can sell some and move on to simpler things if that’s what you desire. 👍👏👏👏

Ash, you got me started on the Rolex journey about a year ago. I went into my local AD and told them I was interested in a datejust with a blue dial. They suggested that I may have to wait 15 years. This video of yours has brought me to my senses. The Rolex datejust, along with all the other models, is just a watch - and an expensive watch at that. Like you, I have now seen through the hype and I’m not prepared to throw my hard earned cash away on this clever marketing strategy. It’s a CWC for me.

Total respect sir! It's always refreshing to witness escapees from Tulip mania whether it be watches or anything else for that matter. I say this even though i own and wear a 50 year old Submariner which I bought when no one knew nor cared about a Rolex(except perhaps Bond and I lol)! The folly of the last decade with Rolex has become almost a 'cliche' and prices worse than the 'crypto' craze and bordering on bad taste to be polite. My other watch is a little known even older timepiece which my father wore during WWII overseas in the UK before the invasion with no monetary value today but is 'priceless' to me and that said 'It seems wisdom comes with age' hopefully and with patience. Bravo.

I love your point of view on watches. Over the years I’ve gifted my watches or new purchases to friends and families who were in need of a time keeper. Yet I’ve also bought for myself so as of now I have 5 watches. I’m enjoying them. None of my watches have ever exceeded $1,200. There’s one watch that I simply adore that I might get and it is the Cartier Tank. Or the Longines version is delightful as well. Of my current collection, 3 are from microbrands, companies that have less than 35 years history from Swiss and the US, and I’m happy to support them. 1 is a Casio Royale which is meant to discourage theft but ended up on my wrist a lot lol. Last but not least is a homage to the Rolex Explorer II and it is solid accurate and attractive. No complaints whatsoever. The sports ones are sized between 39 and 41 mm case size, whereas the dress ones are between 37 and 40. I am more than pleased.

I really enjoyed listening to your thought process on watches and how one might define a person. I am 6ft tall so a little larger than you but I absolutely love a watch in the 33-35mm size. The watch that gets the most wrist time is a 33mm Omega small seconds with the iconic 30T2PC movement dating to 1946. It is classic and does not draw attention but even after almost 80 years it runs as well as a modern watch losing only about 3-4 seconds a day. I would it defines me as Old School in a way, when times were simpler. Thanks for the great video.

Thanks for an inspiring episode for us watch enthusiasts. My grail is the Omega Moonwatch. It defines me because of my grandparents who introduced me to the Apollo program when I was a kid. My grandfather built an astronaut helmet for me. I bought the last Moonwatch with original 1969 caliber in the big box here in Hamburg, Germany, in the Omega Boutique. Had been wanting it for years and invested everything into my company for five years until I finally pulled the trigger on a luxury item. And as for the size: I also own a 36mm Seamaster which is marking a personal milestone and would never sell it 👍🏻😎

Visiting an Omega Boutique is always a nice experience. I bought my SMP (my defining watch) in the Boutique in Hamburg in 2008 and my Planet Ocean Chronograph in the Omega Boutique Canton Road in Hong Kong in 2009.

Hi Ash, Thanks for this video. About a year ago I purchased a Longines Classic watch, very simple gold design, white face with black roman numerals and a black leather strap. You suggested that I consider the brand and I'm glad that you pointed me in the right direction. It is understated, elegant, and everything that I wanted, all for a reasonable price. I'm of similar proportions to you and my preference is usually for slimline items as they fit my size and physique. It's one of the best purchases I have made. A Rolex on my wrist would look out of place. It would appear too large. Simple design and elegant, and it works for me. That's all that matters. Cheers! Phil

Haha how very on point sir! I've never had any love for the metal-strapped, gaudy clockfaces of the more elite military styles. For me, their use in civilian life is the same trend that manifests later in the rise of the G-shock and other absurdly unweidly timepieces. Only my opinion of course, and as a relatively slight fellow that end of the scale is not suitable for me anyway. So your mileage may vary. Now that CWC is still a bit too much for my own wrist I feel- I'd never get it under my cuff- but a very attractive piece, I like that. I'm in the market for an attractive field watch, but I must admit I find myself drawn to the Poljot De Luxe... As ever, the Chaps' Guide has expanded my horizons and made me reconsider some of my own values and approaches. Excellent video... ... And a gorgeous jacket on the host! Absolutely perfect in colour and shape, what a beauty.

Got it second hand, in well care for condition, and now I get to give it a home where it is appreciated and loved, all over again without feeding into the "new is better" mindset.

Dear Ash, I appreciate and enjoyed your honest soul-bearing, and,clearly, you gave the matter considerable thought and reflection. As a suggestion, I would point you towards Christopher Ward watches. They have really pushed boundaries in recent years, and their horological identuty encapsulates quality, innovation and style. I dont currently own one, but I have great respect for the brand. As for myself, my daily wearer is my trusty Tag Heuer diver, 21 years old and still working well. I bought it to recognise and remember a personal achievement, and I have never regretted buying it. I also own a Hamilton auto, great watch but, at 42mm diameter, its a tad large for my 7" wrist. However, I think one can get away with wearing a larger watch when worn under a shirt cuff, whereas the watch size is more obvious when wearing short sleeves. Anyway, a big Thumbs Up to you for creating and sharing your thoughts and ideas on matters sartorial and developmental☘️

I do agree. My favourite watch I wear is a CWC SBS issued 2001 diver which has lots of wear, which adds to the character. And you can change over the nato straps easily to make it work better depending on what you are wearing, or just to give it a different vibe. But a nice vintage Sub, (16800) or early GMT from the 80s (16750) are also really special and more subtle than the modern iterations.

Very interesting video. I always admire your presentation. I have only one “luxury” watch and it’s nowhere near the ones you discussed. For a long time I wanted a good-quality Swiss-action watch. Finally I bought myself a Tissot PR50 about 20 years ago. It cost two or three hundred Canadian dollars (I honestly can’t remember now), which seemed like a lot of money to spend on a watch. I don’t think I would ever consider spending thousands. My Tissot suits me very well. I am a slightly smaller chap than you and the PR50 is about a 35 or 36 mm very classic looking wristwatch. I had got away from wearing it daily after buying an Apple Watch, but have started wearing it more again since I have begun to try to dress better and began watching (no pun intended) your videos.

My defining watch would be my Seiko SBDC031 Sumo; a 45mm diver (on a bracelet). That's what I wear when I'm suited and booted. What I'm wearing day to day is currently a Seiko SKX007 (42mm) on a NATO. I change the strap every day to have a different look every day.

My forty year old digital (in those days) SKX007 is still keeping perfect time. I used to be a keen SCUBA diver and it has been scratched and bashed quite a bit.

I never got into Rolex for the exact reason you described at the beginning of this nice video. The wrist watch which defines me is a simple and unassuming 1970s Lorenz mechanical automatic watch, with a black leather strap. Very classic in look and dimensions. Elegant in its simple aesthetic.

I watch your videos because they show everything about a gentleman and I am a gentleman but this video is about what wristwatch a normal man wears and from this point of view I am not a normal man but I am a Watch Guy Addicted. I've had everything from Rolex to Omega to Longines to Tissot to JLC to Breguet to Breitling to Casio to IWC to Zenith to Panerai to Bell&Ross and I can't say that there is a perfect or right watch for me one day i like the Breguet Classique 38mm one day I like the Breitling Navitimer 43mm one day I like the Jaeger LeCoultre Master Compressor Extreme World Alarm 46mm and I can't say there is a wristwatch or size that suits me define because I love all wristwatches and I appreciate them all and I have no hype about any brand usually the Rolex YachtMaster which I would rather keep in the box though it's a superbly proportioned watch

A Longines Conquest Heritage (35mm) has been my one watch collection for over a decade. I don't need a dive watch because I don't dive, I don't need pilot watch because I'm not a pilot. However, a quality little dress watch is a nice thing to have because I do dress well most days..

I am wearing a 36mn 1970s Raketa Copernicus Soviet handwound at the moment on a bund strap I also have a 38mm Seagull 1963 column wheel mechanical chronograph with a sapphire crystal. I am having my 1980s 36mm Sea -gull 36mm automatic day date datejust homage cleaned and lubricated at the moment. I have a new 40mm Loreo automatic Rolex submariner homage watch. Under £50. I wear it on a good quality strap. My son has one too, also on a strap! Very practical and stylish. I can't wait to get my Sea-gull 36mm automatic back.

When I was younger I went for huge chunky divers 46mm diameter 16.5mm thick. Monsters. Now I am older, for my 6.5 inch wrist a 40 or 42 tops. I have a 34mm Swiss vintage gold plated case Paul Jobin with ETA movement. Not expensive, but it has heritage and it is lovely. It is quite unique in todays age and jumps out more as a conversation piece than a 46mm diver. And for the right reasons. The Seiko turtle is probably the exception, their lug to lug is tiny and is so comforrable you forget you are wearing it. I like the iconic shape and the historic talking points of Vietnam war and the Apolocalypse Now film.

I bought a Submariner date in 1993 and have worn it ever since. Over the years I have owned maybe a dozen Rolex, all at retail from an AD with no hoops to jump through, I simply wouldn’t play that game. The watch that defines me is a Panerai Bronzo. My grail, and fits my lifestyle perfectly.

Re: Dimensions. The original ‘James Bond’ watch was the Rolex Submariner ‘Big Crown’ 6538. Apparently it was borrowed from Cubby Broccoli during the filming. Dimensions: 38mm. If you look at the Patel Philippe chronographs of the period they were between 33mm and 36mm. These were the ideal watch proportions for a gentleman, and still are. Unless someone is on a dive, I always, when I see a big watch on a guy and think “the bigger the watch, the bigger the pain he is going to be.” It usually proves to be so.

Hi Ash, I, too, have a few of the watches that you mentioned. I've always enjoyed the each Rolex that I've owned but, like you, I feel like the brand itself has gotten in the way of enjoying the watch. Truth be told, a Rolex is a fine watch of the best quality. The proportions are ideal and they bring joy to me each time I wear them. The downside is that other people see the watch and raise their eyebrows. As an aspiring "chap", I hope to minimize the scrutiny of any one thing that takes away from being myself. This is especially true for something that can be identified as ostentatious. Instead, I aspire to the quiet enjoyment of things. Thank you for your honesty on this subject!

I love Longines as a brand, especially the vintage watches that were 35mm with the small seconds on the dial. I am also a fan of the vintage Omega seamaster dress watches. If i had loads of cash to spend on a watch, i'd buy a German brand known as Moritz Grossmann. Their Hamatic line is classy and with the calibre 106.0, it is out of this world. The other two watches worth buying instead of a Rolex are the Cartier Tank and the Jaeger Le Coultre Reverso. The only Rolex i ever really liked is the Explorer 36mm 114270.

Thanks, Ash - and to Pete for asking the question. An entertaining philosophical detour on our journey to Chap Nirvana. Personally, I don't believe any person can be defined by a watch. I certainly don't judge anyone by the watch they choose to wear, or not wear. If you've got a watch you like to wear - then God Bless You. It doesn't effect me in the slightest, so do whatever works for you. I surely don't ascribe wisdom, or virtue, or any other desirable quality to someone just because they wear a watch that costs $1000 or $100,000. There are certainly charlatans, villains, and criminals wearing costly timepieces. My personal philosophy regarding watches, and indeed any costly artefact, is this: Make sure you own the item, and that the item doesn't own you. I've known more than a few people who let their ownership of valuable items control their lives. Trips not taken, meetings with friends and families missed - all because of the "responsibilities" of looking after cars, airplanes, boats, horses, jewelry, etc. Thanks Ash, and a million best wishes.

Thank you so much for your honesty and your opnion on these luxury watches. I'm a middle aged man at 5ft 7in and 9 stone sapping wet, and find quality clothes and watches hard to come by. I'm always looking for nice watches around 36-38mm and clothes that will fit me with out going bespoke and have found your advice most helpful. Thank you. Good answer. When a man is defined by his possessions, if the possessions disappear, then so does the man. I've had a manually wound CWC chronograph since the 2000s and really enjoy its functional simplicity and robustness.

A luxury watch to me is something like a Seiko or Tissot. My daily wearer is my beloved Casio F-91W and that cost me £10 from Argos. With that in mind there seems no reason to spend any more on a watch because the Casio does everything you need a watch to do and its reliability is legendary. At times (like most of us) I've been hypnotised and enticed by the high end luxury watch market, but I soon snap to my senses. They're not made for working class men like me, they're made for millionaires with money to burn. I wouldn't wear one anyway. I'd be terrified of damaging it, paranoid for being mugged for it & fearful of losing it. It'd just end up being a cabinet queen and I'd probably have to insure it separately and spend hundreds every year having it serviced. It'd be an act of insanity considering my lifestyle, but it's ok because I absolutely love the watches available to me. I'm pretty sure a billionaire wearing his Patek doesn't experience the same level of happiness that I experience when I wear my Seiko 5 or my Orient Bambino.

One of my favorite watches to wear is my Hamilton that looks a lot like that CWC. Great choice! I have a Seiko SKX025 that scratches that red/blue bezel itch.

The one I will never get rid of is my 1016 explorer. However, I mostly wearing my Habring2 felix top seconds. All brushed field style watch with a monopusher chrono. Other ones in the collection I would get rid of if necessary are a rolex 114270, omega ck859, neovintage mk40 omega. To be honest, too many. Most don’t get much wear, but I’ve sold many pieces, especially the large one. Panerai, Rolex GMT other divers. I agree, they’re just too big. Feels like a big slab of metal on the wrist. Then 1016 is just perfect. For me Interesting to follow your further evolvement om your preferances in watches 👏🏼👍🏼

When you first said Rolex I groaned and almost flicked to the next channel, BUT, the rest of what you said made perfect sense. Rolex can be very cliché and vulgar especially on the wrist of a loud and boorish person. It might be 'god' tier but a nice, less expensive watch on a classic leather strap often makes a classier statement. Me, a Tissot Le Locle Powermatic 80 on a plain black leather strap with a quick release butterfly clasp in stainless steel. Affordable and wearable anywhere.

Since you have a passion for CWC, I recommend looking over MWC… numerous models that fit the dimensions and design characteristics you enjoy. Swiss made, Swiss movement with both auto and quartz, sold in GB.

This video is quite an eye opener for me. I too thought that having a very expensive watch would make me feel great, but in the end it doesn’t. It’s just a watch, a very expensive piece of metal with moving parts in it. Think we just fall in love with the idea of having a Rolex or Omega or whatever, not with the watch itself.

Love this video! Unlike yourself, I've never been a Rolex fan boy, but I have lusted after a CWC for years. Why I haven't bought one is a bit of a mystery. Like you, I'm ex-military (RN) but never got issued with one. As it is, I'm now trawling eBay for a simple G10 from the early 80s, which is when I would have been issued with one. In the meantime, the Casio Duro, of which I have three, pretty much does it for me...

Rolex are fading as a brand, too much baggage and overpriced. I hardly wear mine now and wear my much better looking Seamaster. But my every day watches are a Bulova lunar, Seiko Flightmaster....yes, the dreaded quartz.😉

Me personally I love my Tudor Pelagos 42mm In blue it’s a amazing well made tool watch. Rugged and stylish All at the same time a bit like myself I’m luckily my forearms are a bit muscular not quite Popeye level 🤣 so I can get away with a 42mm. I’ve found it’s a very versatile watch looks great with my work trousers and high viz jacket but. Also looks great dressed up with more smart attire,. For me Tudor are what Rolex used to be 30/40 years ago very well made tool watches for professional. I also have a Tudor Royal day date 41mm which I really like but I do wish they did the day date in the 37mm as well

I like watches, I own a very modest collection. Nothing fancy. I prefer what are called field watches, or tool watches. I do like Omegas and so forth although I own non, I can’t justify the cost. My collection consist of Citizen, Lorus, Bulova and Bertucci. My most worn is my Citizen Promaster Tough, right size and does everything I need. When choosing a watch I require accuracy, legibility and reliability. I like CWC myself too. I also like Time Factors offerings, I think you would do too, very much your style I think.

Nice sartorial journey on determining what watch truly defines your character best, I would have to say that Timex perhaps describes me best I was gifted my very first watch at the age of 13 as a birthday gift by my father, and over the years I have been a fan of that brand, I do however own other watch brands but for some reason, I seem to be drawn to Timex...maybe it's their once very popular solan "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking"!

Very brave of you to put this out publicly. Good on you & it does make a lot of sense. Many people have succumbed to the Rolex hype & now probably regret the cost involved for just a watch. They do have some good looking well made pieces & how people spend their money is their business, but I do wonder if more affordable watches would be a better option or them.

If you want a CWC that is more waterproof, might I suggest you look at the GS Sapphire - G10 looks, 36.5mm, sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance & long life quartz movement.

Fabulous content.My journey with watches has been varied.When I was in my teens,I was rather practical,and stuck with old,stainless steel wind up Timex.Then I built a small collection of vintage Bulova from the late 1930's-50's.Then,in a surge of garishness in the early 90's,I purchased an 18k gold Piaget Polo and an almost obnoxious gold and diamond studded Tissot.That fortunately did not last.These days,I mostly wear either a 1950's era gold Omega Constellation,or the 1969 circa two tone Rolex Datejust that my father left me,and,rarely,(formal dinners,conferences,etc),a 1990's era 18k quartz movement Condor,a really handsome watch.These are all 31-36mm.I agree,the 41mm (and larger) are silly and unattractive.Regarding military watches,they are study and functional.I have a German ww2 era pilots' watch that runs perfectly.Simplicity is best,(as I have learned).The Junkers company makes a really good automatic wind watch.This is a great topic,and,as always,perfectly executed.Thank you.
