Maybe a JLC watch should be my grail watch or my next big birthday celebration watch. They certainly don’t get the love that they should do. Great video Watchfinder.
Just watched this with the captions on so I didn’t wake anyone. All the things JLC was translated to is hysterical. As always, excellent video. The production value is outstanding. Great camera work, well written and executed.
The Watchfinder saga can be divided in two big eras: the first when "Jager" is pronounced by him "Yeh-gàh", and the second when he pronounces it "Jhé-jhe".
@@omarsaletovicprins9632 The one he pronounced in this vid was the correct one.. hahaha 😆 It's hard to pronounce some of the watch brands (ALS, Longines,Blancpain and the others)
The Chuck Yeager thing used really annoy me, given how good the accompanying content would be. Then again, I'm sure watchfinder use an actor for their videos... it's not the voices own script.
Using my own experience, the cellphone is not as convenient, or personal, as I thought. Setting an alarm on a phone requires a few more (and unpleasant) steps as the device is not ergonomic nor as accessible as the wrist. My mind moved away from thinking that a phone was for convenience and more in line with it pandering to my laziness. And laziness doesn't like extra steps. Is my experience, scientific or logical? I don't know, but that's why I think wristwatches are certainly better at developing a respect for time.
A mechanical alarm is indeed a very cool and actually useful feature of a watch. But just for the way it is used I prefer the Vulcain Cricket and Seiko Bellmatic over the JLC Memovox.
Kudos for showing us the new Master Control Memovox in action so quickly after its release. A stunning watch, it's a pity that the regular production model looks so bland in comparison.
I love them. I have the Memovox Tribute to Polaris 1968 which was released in 2008. It is my preferred watch for its finesse, unique design and alarm complication and school bell 🔔 sound ! Awesome ! In fact I wonder why Patek Philippe is not doing alarm watches. I would love a Patek Philippe alarm watch.
Love the story telling which compliments they reviews so well! And JLC is the brand I wish I could go for next. Their ranges are just so on point. Something for every occasion, great women’s watches, wonderful finishing, and better value than The Big 3???
The problem as of late is their pricy as they should be for what your getting. But there value retention as in resale is pretty bad. As we have seen the last few months its nice to have the fine watch on your wrist worth something close to what you paid for it if you have to hock it.
@@robertsullivan4773 That assumes you plan to sell your watch in the future or as you described it, hock it. The "watch is an investment" argument is getting old. I have a Master Geographic and I would never sell it. If you purchase a watch with the idea you might have to hock it, then buying a watch is not a good idea.
@@watchgeek6712 First I was just pointing out how our lives can change very fast almost over night. One never knows when extra cash might be in short supply. I love my watches investment grade or not they are the first place I would look if cash got tight. Second I love JLC but they don't hold their value thats a fact and probably best bought previously owned.
Hell yeah, alarm watches that vibrate especially mechanical ones are not as abundant as other complications. Even though in my opinion are the most useful.
I just have to remind you that Vulcain infact invented the mechanical alarm that actually worked in 1947 and JLC copyed it. The Vulcain Cricket presidents watch
@ Tor Ebelthoft, yes your are absolutely correct Vulcain make the world 1st mass produced manual winding alarm watch , whereas JLC make the world 1st automatic winding mass produced alarm watch in 1956
Yes you are correct however JLC also made the first diving alarm watch. And ever since the early 2000s JLC (Master Compressor Memovox) has made alarm watches that ring like a school bell which sounds a lot nicer than other alarm watches including the Vulcain cricket that sound like a buzzer.
While JLC is an incredible watchmaking company, there are many watch enthusiasts who would say that Audemar Piquet, Patek Phillipe, Vacheron Constantin, Gerard Perregaux, A.Lange & Sohne and lesser known watch brands like De Buthane and Laurent Ferrier knock JLC out of the park... I disagree. In my opinion; JLC really is the watchmaker’s watchmaker - you can buy any of the watches they currently offer without getting the runt of the litter, at a pretty reasonable price considering the level of quality, finish and innovation you’re receiving. If I was to win the lottery tomorrow, JLC would be my first stop-off for a truly flawless dress watch. A JLC is never a bad purchase.
Larry - I totally understand and recognise this, but I’m just saying that a JLC is never a bad purchase and that you almost certainly can’t go wrong with one. They’re truly excellent watches and the brand is respected throughout the watch community, as you will know. They’re in totally different price categories, but JLC watches are so good (especially for the price) that they’re subjectively comparable
@@benstacey5508 yup of course, been a JLC fan since 2005, the master compressor lineup is what made me a fan of the brand even though jlc is known more for dressier pieces.
Ben Stacey I totally agree. My next purchase will be a JLC (saving money for that). My case I don’t see Hublot or Richard Mille as top luxurious brands but A. Lange &S or F. P. Journe are also in my top of the top.
Great video as always, keep up the good work. I know its down to personal taste, but i never will get the style of Tudors hands, Marmite, not for me. Omega Seamaster a lot more pleasing and balanced watch.
Ok watch finder! Serious question! Can you get your hands on the ALS war horse model. Back when i saw it. It was the most complicated wrist watch made. 500.000dollars up front and then you waited. Wempe in new york were taking orders i believe.
I would gladly pay good amount of money to have that parking timer on a JLC watch. Even today I still have to pay at a meter for parking a lot where I live lol.
I just ordered mine today. There are only 250 for the world but because of my special relationship with the boutique in Beverly Hills and my recent recent visit to the factory I am in. Can't believe it, and can't wait. I have last year's limited edition blue dial Polaris Date. It is one of my favorite watches. JJL products are really a good value compared to other manufacturers.
High flying executives nowadays just take the ticket off the windscreen, put it on the passenger seat with the rest of their paperwork and give it to their secretary on the way into the office. No worries about parking restrictions when your time is worth £1000 per hour.
JLC are missing a really brilliant sports watch. The current Polaris series are nice, but they aren't at the same level as the VCO, PP Nautilus, APROs (and even Daytonas) of the world.
They actually did have a lineup of sporty watches. Some of the models were actually targeted to compete with AP. Look up the Master Compressor line which were in production from the early 2000s until around 2015. Those were the time JLC made rugged, masculine and very sporty watches. Some disliked it but I personally am a big fan of the lineup since I discovered the brand back in 2005.
Parking ticket alarms on a luxury watch seem like such an oxymoron Apparently you are rich enough for a luxury watch, but also broke enough that when a parking ticket alarm rings it sends you running towards your parked car
A great bedtime video from Watchfinder and Co. Gotta love Thurs now. I'll take a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Memovox Timer Q410848J, that timepiece is just awesome!!! how much for one ? I'm 158th to give you a thumbs up, btw....
And perhaps AP doesn't belong there and hasn't for some time now. The top 4 in my opinion are: Patek, Vacheron, A. Lange & Sohne, and JLC. I will admit a problem here, though: JLC's finishing (movement-side in particular) does not match up with that of the other 3, it just doesn't, and so I always find myself wanting to put JLC up there with Patek and Lange but I just can't, they don't really belong there.
@@LanguagesWithAndrew yup that's right, the reason JLC is not up there with the 'Holy Trinity' is because of the level of finish and prices. JLC entry level pieces are attainable compared to the other 3 and the level of finish of entry level JLCs are not comparable to the 3. Before ppl accuse me of being a JLC hater, I am a fan of the brand since 2005.
Zenith 135 chronometre or Zenith Captains from the 50‘s and 60‘s from all the vintage watches I own Zenith is the king of accurate movements from that period !
Love JLC, I have a Memovox I inherited from my grandfather and it is so cool! Unfortunately the alarm function does not work anymore and it needs some servicing. Check out my review of the watch here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PNIH-Gv0m2E.html
If you can afford first watch, you probably don't care about parking tickets. 2 and 4 o'clock pushers were always pushing me away. Sorry JLC. I prefer at least one at 3 o'clock.
These are great watches and impressive in their own right, but I find it amusing that all of these features are also available on a cheap Casio digital watch. If I were a rich man, I'd be lustfully eyeing that Memovox Timer.
They could have developed that from the Master Compressor line. Sadly that lineup was discontinued. Imo, those were JLC's over-engineered, robust, and masculine sports watches.
