The watch I regret buying the most is the F-91w. It has been a gateway drug for me and now I can’t stop.
@ednammansfield8553
@ednammansfield8553 16 дней назад
Yes, the F91 is probably the biggest seller of any other brands of watches on the market. It's cheap and reliable and if it should ever go wrong or is damaged you can just purchase another one without having to break your bank account on any luxury watch like a Rolex etc. The only trouble with Casio watches they can be addictive. I know that from experience as I have several of them in my collection both digital and analogue along with two G-Shock 5610's for when I need a tough and reliable watch when on military duties.

But you have a story which is somehow better. We try to tie these silly metal time pieces to a story, because the story IS the point. If you stole a fork from the event it’d be worth more than any watch. (The story part, not the watch itself). I’m selling my Daytona as part of a down payment for a house and to be honest I don’t care about it at all. Also sell a Grand Seiko for the same reason. The rest of my collection is under $500 for the most part and I only have one watch I truly care about and it’s worth at best $300 new. I like your story more than I like my Daytona, (although I am wearing it for the next few days before I send it in for service, cleaning and authentication for its new owner).

The U Boat! I have my own personal experience of an Egyptian U Boat copy, claimed by the seller to be ‘almost waterproof’ taken by yours truly into the pool. That night I took it back claiming it was steamed up! The seller said to me ‘I told you not to take it into the water’ my reply was I only took it into the shower. Anyway he took the case back off and approximately an egg cup of water poured out…..enough said!

Most of us can only dream of owning an FP Journe. For me, it’s the one that got away that I always regret (I’ve never sold a watch, in part for that reason - I fear I’ll regret it!) Almost pulled the trigger on a pre-owned VC Overseas about 8 years ago, when they were selling for about 1/4 of what they sell for today. I hesitated over price, and it sold. Oh I wish I’d bought it: there’s no way I’d spend that much on a watch today!

I too, am an engineer and I work in industrial sites, which means there is no way in hell that I will wear my precious timepiece from Mondays to Fridays. My biggest regret was an impulse buy of a full-on 18K rose gold Breguet Aero Navale (with the full 18Kt gold band) instead of a Rolex Metorite Daytona way back in 2004. A few years later I sold the Breguet for the same $20K I paid for it & bought a white dialed SS Daytona for $9K which I still own. But the thought of passing on that meteorite Daytona (at the time $16K) haunts me to this day.

Andrew, I feel you pain so I have taken to splitting my buying into two categories. The first is watches I like and will wear. The second is watches I am buying because they may prove to be a good flip or investment (like your Journe example). I wear the first batch and will never sell them so I don’t regret. The second group I do not wear ever so I don’t make memories with them and thus they are easy to move on from emotionally when it is time to sell. This formula seems to be working for me. The only hard part is not wearing the “flip” watches, but that is easier than regret!

I regret not buying this one golden Tudor with a black dial I saw when my A.D. was closing. It was on a leather. It was a display model and had a small scratch. Altogether it was around 70% off retail and they were literally disassembling the shelves and removing light fixtures from the store - I felt like the world around me was crumbling, my friend was with me and I should’ve just bought it, that same watch is around 5000 now. The watch really was so me! I should definitely have bought it. I could have afforded it easily… then I went through a period of time where I lost the money anyway being stupid, so buying the watch would’ve been the better decision!

That's the joy of buying pre-owned: Somebody else was responsible for the first scratches ... and ate that part of the depreciation.

I don't really like Rolex but I do love that Yacht Master you sold. I have never sold a watch yet so no regrets there have a few I wish I hadn't purchased though.

I have bought and sold so many watches, including vintage. No regrets. My taste has matured to high end Seiko and Grand Seiko. The SLA055 makes so much more sense to me than a sub' and then there is the lume!

I'm not sure how much time you spent on these jokes. But it was worth it 10/10

I bought a Seiko SKX009 from a friend for $400 just when they were discontinued. Eventually I wore that watch for a good year until I sold it for a profit. Slowly I started regretting selling that watch until the end of the year I was offered one for sale for much less than I sold AND bought it for. The exact same watch. Bought it back and it’s returned to my collection.

That same FP Journe was my biggest miss too. Like you I saw the prices come down, down... And so I held, I held off... then they soared... Similar thing happened with a blue dial Tudor sub, the mid-late 80s variant. I always knew what they were and as Tudor revitalised itself, whilst I did buy a Pelagos I ignored all the Black Bay hype, waiting on a good price on a sub. I saw one at 4200 and it made me think I could find one under £4k... And that was that.

I wanted the Yachtmaster about 12 years ago and I nearly got one but changed my mind and was sensible with my money. 12 years later I just got the new rhodium dial version

My biggest regret was selling my apollo 11 50th anniversary speedmaster for a Rolex datejust two tone with diamond dial. I ended up selling the DJ and bought a sea dweller 43 and then a new Rolex rootbeer two tone. But I never stopped regretting selling it. You get over Rolex pretty fast.

We are so much alike! So many regrettable watch decisions, for the sake of finding out what I really like. I tell myself there was a reason for each decision, and it's true. I just consider it all a part of the journey in this odd hobby.

I regret not obtaining the ym2 all gold model. Yes I have the ss model, and only thought about the all gold ym2. Did not see this coming, what a drag! 😢

Who has time to sell things they don't want anymore? Going to the post office is too tedious to countenance. But if a guy with a box of money knocks on my door and asks if I have any watches for sale...
