True story- January 2007, as a college student and massive Byrds/Dillards fan, I saw Chris and Herb play Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Georgia. They played two shows that night and after several drinks during the first, I mustered up the courage to approach them and request this song in between shows. Chris replied that he’d love to, but he didn’t remember the lyrics. At that moment, I scurried away to write the lyrics and chords on the back of a napkin with a magic marker. I asked the sound guy to hand it to them, and sure enough, he did. They played it...reading off the napkin the whole time, but I didn’t care...it was so worth it.
what a great story Matt! Shows how it's supposed to work ; I'm sure Chris Hillman appreciated your enthusiasm and support and you have a wonderful experience to remember now.
I have always liked this song and have heard it sung by many artists. This version is beautiful and ranks right up there with my favorite version from Karla Bonoff. Just beautiful!
