A lovely piece of work, greatly appreciated. As a boy in the 1950s I often walked in Hirst Woods- partly to do train-spotting, but partly just to explore. I knew all these weirs and the canal well. It’s many decades since I last visited, so it was wonderful to see the area again - virtually unchanged in more than half a century.

Hello mike,thank you so much,your videos are priceless.I lived in Yorkshire in the 1960's to the seventies,I worked for HC Slingsby tubular truck makers,I lived in Thornton then moved to Denholme.It was the best time of my life,the people were very friendly the scenery was stunning and still is so many beautiful places to go,anyone watching these stunning video's should make the effort to go,they will have a holiday of a lifetime. Very engrossing film so well made, loved the use of pastiche in the camera work ie: the dark corners as if really early photography and the editing is superb. Shame more Bradford people don't know about your films I am more than sure a number would find them as well made and fascinating as those of us commenting do.
Brilliant video Michael 😀 It’s also refreshing to watch a video where the music adds rather than detracts for a change! I’ve lived in Baildon my whole life (born in ‘84) and went to Salts school yet had no idea about some of these mills!
You're welcome - Oddly enough, I was up that way this afternoon taking a few photos of the old mill's weir at the far end of Hirst Woods - It's a crackin place - just a pity it's not in Eccleshill ;)
Well I know I left a comment here a good few hours ago - Hmmmmmm.... Yeah Paul, I find with this main production that the smaller productions are just as much fun to create and it's great that you can pick up a subject and just go with it.
I tend to think of mills as very large places. It looks as though the cottages did not house many people, though. About how many do you suppose worked at the mill you show in the CGI presentation?
This was basically a Fulling Mill with no more than 4 stocks. It would have needed just as many people hanging out the fulled cloth in the Tenter Field as was working inside the mill. At best I would have a guess of no more than 20 people employed.
Hi Michael that was great. I lived in Clayton until 1970ish then Allerton till 1980 when I emigrated to Australia. I sometimes wish I had never left...Clayton esp. West Yorkshire has many beautiful places...too many people do not appreciate what they have. What is the background music from 3:35 to 14 50? Thanks for your video
