The Watsons (FULL Audio Book)
by Jane Austen (1775 -- 1817)
This fragment of a novel was written by Jane Austen in 1804 and remained untitled and unpublished until her nephew James Edward Austen-Leigh printed it in his A Memoir of Jane Austen in 1871. The title is from him.
Mr Watson is a widowed clergyman with two sons and four daughters. The youngest daughter, Emma, has been brought up by a wealthy aunt and is consequently better educated and more refined than her sisters. But when her aunt contracts a foolish second marriage, Emma is obliged to return to her father's house. There she is chagrined by the crude and reckless husband-hunting of two of her twenty-something sisters.

Isn't it crazy that these 200 yr old books are still so relevant today?? I can't imagine having such an amazing writing gift and wo derful insight. I recommend all high-schoolers, and older, read every one.

It has been completed by an anonymous editor. I have it. Jane's work finishes at the end of chapter 6 which is about 1/3 of the way through. We intend to listen to this and then read the rest. I'll write again when we've done that and let you know if the completion works.

Even at Charle’s young age, ? 11-14 years, perhaps… (as young boys and men were then allowed more freedoms than were young women!) had the perfect honest quick reply to the witch, than had he been older, he might have chosen to filter! Some things, indeed, never change! These types still abound in every generation, and, sadly, shall continue to …

It was begun and abandoned by Austen in 1804. As she both reworked previously written works and wrote new ones after this it was obviously a story she did not feel was interesting enough to tell.

@josephinemarchnfanymagalar7601
At 19th century, it was a dangerous job because there was so little hygiene information and anatomic information. So many patient died at that time, and surgeons got sick because of lack of hygiene. Of course if they were at this century, they wanna take him to their daughter as soon as possible. 😂

@motorcop505
@motorcop505 7 лет назад
javamann1000 Seriously? Of all the things you have to be thankful for with Librivox's thousands of free audiobooks, you have to whine about their announcement at the beginning that the recording is from Librivox.org, the narrator's name, and the fact that all of their recordings are in the public domain - information that typically lasts less than 30 seconds! Are you fucking kidding me? GTFO! You are too much if a selfish piece of shit if you can't handle such a simple announcement, especially since it gives the reader an opportunity to give his or her name so as to get credit for their FREE/PRO BONO performance! You are so typical of the effete, spoiled, stupid, pussified milleneals of today. Just GTFO. What a total dickhead you are.
