Not quite always though. I watched a zombie movie recently, where the camera was found. The people who filmed it, died. And isn't that the case in The Blair Witch Project too?
I am in south Florida. When I saw those birds, it gave me chills. We get bad hurricanes here, as you all know. One time, when a hurricane was a day or less away from hitting us, I was standing in the street and a black cloud of birds, thousands of them, suddenly appeared overhead, clouds of them, heading north, ahead of the storm. I wished I could have gone with them. I knew that day , that this storm was gonna be a bad one. It was.
This movie is based on a true upcoming happening. This WILL happen for real in Geiranger, Norway, but nobody knows when. That makes this movie so real and raw. A true work of art if you ask me!
I watched this while extremely drunk. I didn't realize it was in a different language until 3/4 through the movie. I think it was best enjoyed that way though!
I live in Japan and may not be able to see this -- too upsetting. But if you are ever in a place where there is a tsunami warning, take it *very* seriously. Evacuate immediately, get to high ground as fast as you can.
I have seen the movie and it is worth catching. This is a well done film in every respect: script, direction, photography, acting, etc. about a fjord that is subject to periodic landslides resulting in local tsunamis every century or so. The scenario is well explained and makes one wonder why this village hasn't already been relocated to higher ground since it was destroyed in a similar incident in 1905. One of the better disaster films of recent years because it is very believable. Thanks for making this available.
Patriot Jefferson You call my statement insane, yet it is confirmed and made by the government. Have you even seen what Norway looks like? Norway isn't like flat like say America, whe have mountains and rugged terrain everywhere. Relocating in any way is completely impossible, are you even aware of the costs it would take? Because of this, we have developed a warning and monitoring system. This specific mountain is under 24hr surveillance. Trying to avoid landslides and avalanches in Norway is just as pointless as selling sand in Shara. The landslide can happen today, tomorrow or in 100 years. We can't just stop living.
The event only happens rarely. Yes I also thought the same thing as you, but when it was explained that it takes several hundred years to happen, people then don't give a fuck and settle. This is the same near volcanos as well. Eventually it will happen, but if there is several hundred years in between people don't give a fuck
This movie is great. Great acting, good directed, well written script and a good plot. What really puts the cherry on top is the fact that this is based on a real event that happend and will happen in a few years to come. It really interests me to think that this wave is so threatening that a whole town is going to be evacuated. It is also terrifying to think that it can make such an enormous chaos, and for me (who actually lives in norway) makes me wanna read all about the case. It is verry well animated and I really enjoyed watching this movie. It was extremely exciting to try to predict what would happen in the next scene. Bravo
@@RightAmerica_ It's a little slow to start but, although I like the ominous tone, once the rockslide hits it doesn't let up. The aftermath in the hotel has some great scenes too.
Okay, i really hope I'm not the first one to say this but: have they considered NOT living 10 minutes from Oblivion? Like idk, live ANYwhere else. I've never been to Norway and I know there are many fjords, but I presume some of them are not in imminent danger of complete and total destruction. Another possible solution comes to mind of ya'll REALLY don't want to move the town: build some water tight fallout shelters. I suppose they might be covered with debris but I believe the actual inundation will not last long. American families built fallout shelters all over the place during the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Most of them would provide negligible protection and then, only for as long as the food and water would last. I may be wrong but I think the most destructive forces would certainly dissipate within a few hours, bc this will be extremely devastating but only to a relatively small area.
It's a good movie. Subtitles suck: but it has a good cast with a family story, a compelling science aspect, and good action. If you don't expect too much you'll like it.
Milena Jelic - I agree with your assessment. I first watched this without the benefit of translation to English, yet I had a clear idea of what was transpiring. I'm an amateur geologist, so it helps. I also have a fear of being in a space filling with water and that helped, too.
@@SJM6791 part of the story is based on a real event where a wave got to over 200 feet. At Geiranger, it is estimated that it might get to 260 feet when it happens. The difference with the asteroid tsunami scenario is that the Fjord is a relatively closed off bay and all the energy and displacement of the landslide has only one way to go.
What was interesting about this movie was that they state the wave would hit the town in 10 minutes. When the rock slide creates the wave it takes the water 10 onscreen minutes to reach the town, with the whole sequence playing out almost in real time. This was a pretty good movie, although certain parts followed the disaster film formula a bit too closely. There was one scene that I thought was genuinely creepy though; no spoilers, but you'll know it when you see it. They even made a sequel called The Quake, which came out a few weeks ago. I think it involves an earthquake.
This was a great movie. I was pulled in from the beginning. Please, no Hollywood remakes all about the special effects. If you like action movies that actually include a plot, a disaster that could actually occur and people you care about, this is your movie. The cast was perfect, the scenery/ location is gorgeous and is practically another character in the movie. The build up to the disaster had me on the edge of my seat, shouting at the TV and getting my poor dogs all upset. Yes, Day After Tomorrow, I'm looking at you when I think of the opposite of a good disaster movie. In DAT I was rooting for nature to wipe out humanity and let me just skip the utterly pointless remainder of the movie, at only 15 minutes in.
I just saw this for the first time. It really does put Hollywood's disaster movies to shame. It was excellent! I highly recommend it to anyone who loves disaster movies.
I wasn't too sure about watching this movie because it is spoken in Norwegian, but the language actually fits well in this movie. The story is good, the acting superb and the special effect amazing. If you can, you should watch it you won't regret it
Literally rewatched that movie 3 times and even after knowing every second of it went to the cinema to watch it on a bigger screen. It was soooo worth it, I couldnt get enough of it, it was just SO well done and I thought actually for a moment that some scenes that I saw in cinema were different from what I saw on internet, lol. In sum, one of the best movies about natural disasters I have seen in my life. And I saw a lot of, if not all of them_)))) Hope you'll enjoy it too!
This movie should have at least 2 Oscar nominations including Best Foreign Language Film and Best Special Effects, first Non English movie to have Best Special Effect
People who are in tune with wildlife/domesticatd animals, ie: like the birds panicking, will usually have an upper edge for surviving whatever the disaster is. My dog reacts in ways that others' would find oddly annoying, but, I recognized this the last couple of times we had quake tremors where I live. The tremors were almost unnoticed by others, but people did report their animals acting strangely at those times. I love my dog! heh heh
This was an awesome movie! I love action/thriller/disaster movies and this one definitely delivers! I was so captivated that I forgot I was sitting in the middle of my living room, I highly recommend watching this in Norwegian with English subtitles for the best emotional effect. I watch English movies in English subtitles all the time anyway, so this was really no different. You almost forget you're reading them lol! You won't regret watching this one! 10/10!
Solid little movie it really is! We went to Norway about a year or so after this and on a tour around Stravanga I got into a conversation with the tour guide about Fjord tsunamis and he was fascinating! But the Wave is a cracking film and the aftermath of the wave keeps the tension going! 👍
Found this at my local library. Since we don’t have blockbuster anymore this is as close as I can get to checking movies out. Good movie. Glad I found it
I'll never forget seeing this movie while at my grandmother's house (my mom's mother) in our local neighborhood when she had Netflix! still Traumatized by that scene and right after Jonas left his skateboard behind at the hotel!
I saw this a couple years ago on TV it was very very very impressed I was able to keep up with the subtitles yes they did put Hollywood the shame very well done
Lots running take action now before too late learn life skills to live off grib I had a dream something big is Going happen in our time will be a big historical event for humanity
In real life this will happen, but it would probably take several hundred years. In the movie, what will probably happen in real life in several hundred years happen within days/month. (To make things more exiting) That's why people stay there and won't leave until they hear the air raid alarm, by then only having 10 minutes before the tsunami hits.
I watched this film on YT a couple of years ago & it was good! The wave looked terrifying with its darkness & chaos, not the neatly groomed, bright blue image often used to portray a tsunami on YT.
This was a good movie. The heart of father who loves his family and cares for his community, amazing. But the people living there today are in danger...
I had a dream a few years ago that a tsunami hit, but I lived in Dallas no where near the coast. I now live in Corpus right by the coast. Watching "The Impossible" today reminded me of my dream and now I'm looking up all kinds of tsunami's.............
@@jensenhappilymarriedcurry8790 do you know how many people are have tsunami dreams lately? It’s crazy! There is a chance of it happening caused by the La Palma volcano that’s been burning 🥵
Tell that to the Japanese. They had a thousand years notice, yet they still didn't do shit about it. People always build towns next to volcanoes, in tornado heavy areas, and in tsunami territory all the time. People are dumb.
Heather Mayhew No, you just simply can't move an entire village, not with the nature we have in Norway. Humans have lived here since the Stone Age. This tsunami is going to do damage to entire fjords connected to the Geriangerfjord, not just Geiranger. Over 6500 people live in the areas that will be completely wiped out. We're talking about entire municipalities. Places and borders that can never be relocated. The size of this landslide is so unreal, that the total mass, if transported by trucks, would stretch the distance between Geiranger and Singapore nearly 2 times (!). The problems and how they affect, would require us relocate half of the province. There's no solution other than monitoring the mountain.
I didn’t expect much from it (most natural disaster movies are themselves a disaster) but this one is actually really good! Gave me Dante’s Peak vibes. Go watch!
I was working in a beach hotel when tsunami hits Sri Lanka in 2004. Luckily I was in the western part of the country where the wave not strong as it hits Southern still waves could wiped out beach bar & Beach garden. It was really horrible experience after that I couldn't sleep in my hotel apartment always had nightmares about tsunamis. So I resigned the job.
The ironic thing is that this stuff actually happened - in Italy in 1963 - and it was way worse than this or any movie could portray. Check yourself "The Vajont-Dam Disaster".
Cuz it's coming for real... In a small town near you... Or maybe New York City just like all of the prophecies and predictions and movies and Madonna's crazy music video last year
I dunno why the hell I watched this trailer, it only sent me into a *panic attack* ! ! ! ! ! ! 😧😲😳😱 Especially since I have not gotten over the earthquake from January 28th 2020 ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Hell, I'm STILL feeling the trembling, via " phantom quake " , ever since then ! ! ! ! ! !
Great movie. We watched it two weeks after returning from Norway, I was like we were back. I think their English dubbing was off as far as not fitting the character but it works.
Am just saying... that guy knew that a huge wave would struck, also he knew that it will take 10 mins to reach the town. What The Hell is he still doing there damit??? Thats the movies i dont like to see!
Nobody knows when it will happen; might not even be in his lifetime. It's the same situation as people living on low coasts, or near volcanoes, in tornado areas, next to rivers, in earthquake areas, etc. kaitlynnmairepaige.weebly.com/natural-disasters.html
It is very difficult to create a wave of that size on a computer because there are no videos or photos of past catastrophic events to prove it, only a few witnesses. We only have videos of tsunamis caused by earthquakes in the ocean, but they are smaller in height than these colossal waves. However, I think that in this film they managed to create a wave that is quite faithful to reality. The only thing I don't understand is how the hotel managed to stay standing. It should have been swept away from its foundations.
This is a true story actually in Norway there is a town called Geiranger and its so beautyfull there but there is a mountain that is dangered to fall any second any day any year any month and its gonna take 10 Mins for the massive wave to hit the back of the city
Its not good to live in fear for everything u know cuz nobodys safe a big meteor can hit earth and destroy it but we dont evacuate earth because of that right and its a populart tourist place
@@HalfBaked_productions It's tough for some people to live in fear of what can happen, but the activities inside the mountain is under 24hr surveillance. If people was to be moved because of the danger of natural disasters that might happen, the government would've had to evacuate the entire country... Norway is unique, we can't change the nature. But unlike many other people, Norwegians have learned to adapt. We as a people are unique in the way that we can take a hit without loosing our shit (unlike say Americans).
So I just watched this movie for the first time and I did it on TUBI!!! I didn't know this movie took place in a foreign country 😅 Didn't realize the movie was dubbed until 1:09:46🤣🤣🤣
Yep...nuthin’ like hurrying the deaths of MILLIONS of people. Or, wait... are you hoping for an apocalyptic event so that YOU can be saved, get to Heaven and live with the lord forever? Really? The Lamb told us that His new commandment was to love one another as He has loved us and you believe that commandment is best fulfilled by, selfishly, hoping for the death of MILLIONS? Does that even make sense? Also, kinda ballsy of you to assume that you’re gonna be saved/rewarded when you know no such thing...
