Thank you for sharing Dennis. Great job for training a young family member in a decade or less when he gets big enough to help dad in the field. Reminds me of the video games from the 1970s, LOL.

It sure goes a LOT quicker with the skid steer! I built my own accumulator/grapple attachment and it's totally changed my life. I did a video series on the build if anyone is interested. Having an accumulator on the back of a baler and a grapple is ultimately the way to go though. Thanks for the video man!

Hello from Bristol, hey Dennis that looks like fun gathering the bales I’m envious 😹 also on ur practicality video it seems like ur right where ya need to be as far as acres and all work that goes into them. Any more and you’d never get home I know ya work a lot and work hard but like ya said “any bigger and you couldn’t get it done”. Enjoy the dry weather. Rain coming in sat the 21st and staying till wed Great video and I’ll see ya on the next one buddy. Warren

Though a combo accumulator / grapple would be the most cost effective, I would think you would get better results with a separate grapple. You would have the ability to "nudge" the group of bales together to tighten it up before grapplling, reducing the gaps between bales and the loose stacks on the wagon.
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 4 года назад
That's true and that's exactly what I do before I pick them up.
@vtlpluyr

Thanks so much for your videos, I always enjoy riding along with you. Assuming the ground is dry, would it be appropriate as a starter machine for making horse hay? You don’t pick up much crap pushing the bales around the sod? I also use plastic twine - no issues that you are aware of there? Again thank you so much for your videos!
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 3 года назад
Yes I used it for making horse hay. A good plastic twine for square bales is the only way to go.

@DLHFarms

No but we really have to have both. You can't Justify bringing a round bale blower out when you only need 2 square bales to cover your work area. We also sell some of the squares to the public.

Considering that the majority is already built, would it really take that much more work to add the claws on a rocker shaft and then you could just grab and go stack on the trailer or wagon without changing to the grapple after all the packs are made?
@DLHFarms
@DLHFarms 4 года назад
With all the dividers the packs would be to loose to stack. The dividers would need to be thinner

If you had the scrap steel, parts and most importantly time, you could probably mount those arms on a set of cams and mount a rotary actuator or something like that on there to run it and turn it into a bale squeeze type of contraption and save yourself an extra step.

The great thing about this device is it's a one person show. Don't have to worry about gathering a bunch of labor to do it. Back it the day picking up hay was about only way a rural kid could make money in the summer. Now days they don't want any part of it. Are you located in Virginia?
