"The Way It Was Then" is the third release from the album "Living In The Suburbs" and is the story of how life was then, growing up in the slums of inner Melbourne during the depression years.
Mentioning the Waterfront dispute of 1928 and how soldiers of the time were not compensated in any way.
Bill Lowrie was a champion footballer, War hero, hard working man trying his hardest to provide for his family which included 14 kids, one of which was Jason Vorherr's grand mother. "Nana always spoke with such joy of her upbringing and how lucky she was to have so many siblings" unbeknownst to me is that they grew up in slums and I found it to be a rather interesting story.
The song features the beautifully lush pedal steel of Garrett Costigan and the tastefully elegant national steel of Terry Dean.
Thank you 'Born and Bred Port Melbourne' for the use of the photos.
