I would like to say something and give Kvod HaRav advice for smokers. I myself smoke (but not on Shabbat) and nobody has to sleep 24 h just not to smoke. That's unhealthy, because when you sleep you brain cells are dying out, so just use snuff tobacco instead of smoking cigarettes (or chew tobacco), like many people do anyway. Then you don't have the desire to smoke and you don't have to sleep all day and night and waste you life time..
So what happened to the jews who were born jewish, they were shomer shabbat, but died during the babylonian attacks in 2 kings and Jeremiah. According to the prophets, God said he rejected the entire jewish nation during that time period, except those who willingly went to [defected] babylon. But the scripture record defectors were apprehended and returned to Jerusalem. Did the Jewish nation during that time go to Jehovahs rests after the babylonians killed and destroyed, and exiled the surivors to babylon? According to the scriptures, Jehovah determines who enters his rest, not whether your born jewish and shomer shabbat or not. Its definately a high level to be those conditions, but Jehovahs rest isnt hinged on those principles. Its hinged on genesis 6, Noah had no laws, but somehow he walked faithfully with Jehovah, and he and his family were saved, 8 people in total.
