Mike is amazing. Putting is a process and a mindset. Make a good stroke and like they say, don’t worry if it misses. If it misses and you have put on a good stroke, you need to be better at reading greens. Thanks for the video. ⛳️

On that putt at @6:02 you hit look how your upper body pulls ever so slightly left, right before impact, and then you miss the putt on the low side. I wonder if your left hand low grip caused that?

Mike is PURE GOLD !!! I tried a couple of things / tips the last two weeks, and it helped tremendously. One was you can't grip it strong enough. I was awkward in the beginning, but it worked. loved your invisible man videos !

I would like to add that putting drills (the around the clock drill and 20 foot lag drills) will help lower your score tremendously. My golf buddies only practice putting 5 minutes before a match. When I'm scoring in the 70s and they're scoring in the 90s, they realize putting is a big part of it. I have some time on my hands so I'll spend an hour a day, 5 days a week doing putting drills. The best thing I've done for my golf score. That and chipping drills around the greens. It's a whole new game when you start working on your up and downs.

The one thing that he nailed here was…. Focus on the LINE. Not the ball, or the hole, or the putter stroke. Make your task very, very specific. Start the ball perfectly on your line. Period. I’ll have less than 30 putts per round, on most days. I do this by hyper focusing on starting my ball on my intended line. I don’t worry about the technique, or the mechanics. And, I DEFINITELY don’t concern myself with the outcome. All of them won’t go in, but you’ll be surprised at how many that do. I’ll read the putt til I’m 100% committed. I’ll then make practice strokes, imagining I’m hitting the ball, until I feel the speed is correct. I’ll then pick a tiny spot about 6” in front of my ball, and then make that same practice stroke, concentrating ALL of my efforts on starting the ball perfectly on that spot. You have to check those 2 boxes off(read, and speed) first, so you can focus ALL of your efforts on LINE, or else you’ll get sidetracked.

I usually do not like videos with multiple presenters bc often it is two experts going at each other. You sound more like me asking questions than one pro asking another pro. Very helpful and Mike is great. Great video; I will take this with me to the green.

Mike has so much knowledge this was great Brandon I still would love to see Mike and Milo together in a video on the golf swing when amateurs go to swing coaches everybody has so many different ideas on how the golf swing is you are a example of that going to all these different swing coaches with all kinds of different ideas so who is right? Get 2 other different coaches it would be great to see .

Exactly, I see Rail Road Tracks straight to the hole in my mind. I see the train tracks guiding my ball into the hole. Amazingly, it makes putting less stressful visualizing it like this.

While all that is good in theory, most people can't make it go down the line. On a long putt they don't know that. But on a short putt they sure do. What they are finding out is how bad they really are. I could not get the ball started on line for years. I knew that. I just could not figure out why. The why is three fold. First is timing. When you hit putt after putt in practice timing comes in and you make everything. So you have to get a timing proof stroke. That is why you RELEASE (swing) the putter. That takes out the timing issue. Next is the arc. You must arc the putter when on a tilted plane. SBST is all manual manipulation which never repeats. Last you must keep the blade PERPENDICULAR to the tilted plane it travels on. Almost all people add and/or subtract from that especially going through impact. The reason they do that is they see the blade opening and closing RELATIVE TO THE TARGET when on the arc, and they do not realize how important it is to hold PERPENDICULARITY to a different plane.. the plane the tilted shaft is travelling on. This is why Tiger practices his right hand only drill so much. It teaches you to RELEASE and go through impact UNDER and not around. He is holding the PERPENDICULARITY. That is what gets you started on the line. Complex ? Yes. But you have to stop cocking around and get serious about knowing what a proper putting stroke is. Newer training devices actually show you this. The one with the travel plane above the ball will show you exactly this. The people who make "the Putting Arc" sell a clip on device for the shaft which will show you the same thing if you know how to use it. It keeps he shaft from turning relative to the travel plane during the stroke. Use a stairstep above the ball to establish that plane. Guys make 52 or 52 inside 10 feet these days for a reason.

“...why would you want to get it over with?” Like approaching a bad trouble shot with dread and disgust rather than like Tiger who gets excited about a new challenge with dopamine relaxing his body. No wonder he pulled off so many miraculous shots. But any miracle putt Tiger made, so can we (with a gazillion tries.) Outcomes. Watson. Really feel for him. Near 50 years of golf and just a few days ago would have shot a great (for me) 78. 18th hole, on in 2 to 18’ above. Birdie would give me 77 which is much better than average for a 7 hc. Downhill slope would take it 8 feet past but a makeable 12-14 inch break. Whatever. Even if I miss I’ll get par for a round of 78 - enough to win $20 (that birdie would have given me 35.) Screw routine. That spot 6 feet short of the hole. Just do it. Just get it over with. Nice smooth takeaway; wait! Left brain- self 1 jumps in. This green really runs fast; is that aim point ok? Freeze. Jerk. Yip. Whatever. The ball trickles 4 feet. 14 left on a slippery grain with green for par. Slam it 6 feet past. Come back two short. And finally four putt from 18’ for a double bogey 80. For me even a 79 feels enormously better than an 80. Lost $5. Outcomes don’t matter. Just roll the line. Lines were too much trouble. Alignment from behind and above often clashed. But 3-4 footers should be simple to line up. Roll the line. I’ll give it a try. Thanks.

hard to imagine 6ft and under parts are straight and not rolling the ball outside the cup. youd need a firm roll but if you miss it could run past the cup another 6ft lol

I’ve had a lot of success putting short putts with just looking at the hole. I do the opposite of Mike. Look at the hole. Eyes track back to the ball. Then back to the hole and putt while looking at the hole.

Tom Watson lost that British Open because of his club selection on his second shot. The announcers were talking about how no one had gotten the ball up and down if they had gone long on 18 the whole day on that back pin position. If he takes one less club he wins!

“WHY”
@rm00k
@rm00k Год назад
The thing that drives me nuts about watching the pros play is this getting the line on the ball lined up juuuust right. Really slows down the game. And I'm thinking there isn't just one line to the hole, there are many. And the line is a function of the speed. If you are just hitting the ball on a line then you aren't thinking about speed. When you miss a putt you say I miss read the line but maybe you just hit it too hard or too soft. When the pros (or anyone really) 3 putts, it's usually due to miss judging the distance. The announcer will say "he fell in love with line and forgot about the speed". So Mike is advocating falling in love with the line? I don't agree. I think speed is more critical than line.
