My many years as an organist have led me up many tricky steps leading to the console. People certainly had much smaller feet in the old days. St Bartholomews in Leeds(Shultz)& York Minster where two I well remember.
right off the bat, can say that they are not very safety conscious in Brussels. If that were in America, any reasonable fire marshal would cite for the stairs being cluttered with stuff that don't belong there, compromising fire escape route. Oddly enough one thing I did see just before opening the final door to go to the organ loft was a fire extinguisher, hope its charge is up to date
So this is what Diane Bish spoke of....how to get to the organ..she talked about going outside once up at the top and opening a hobbit type door with an enormous key. Wasn’t this organ but same type of thing. Organists have to be in good shape!
Wow! While the climb does seem considerable, those open walkways seem not for the faint hearted! Thanks for this most interesting video. I am not familiar with the organ or church,but will do some research as a result of your excellent video.
Zo te zien is het nog een tour en een beklimming om naar het orgel te gaan. Maar als je dit ziet dan maak je niet veel mee met dit soort weggetje om naar het orgel te gaan. Maar erg intrasante weg. En te minste wat aan het orgel aan klankkleuren betreft is het een flinke orgel.
