Agreed, Jones is the worst draft pick value by Poles so far. I disagree with the off hand shot at Poles though. He'll be back in Chicago as GM for sure. He's done a very good job as GM so far, and seems to have a solid plan for building the roster through the draft. Don't discount the possibility of Poles trading the #1 overall pick again either, depending on what's offered for it.
@j.r.3945
@j.r.3945 5 месяцев назад
@@ericf1966 oh they gonna get a tonnnn of offers by teams like the jets giants broncos etc… but the real question is will they stick with Justin? I do think they should but I don’t think they will. And I can’t blame them for it. Also when you make a trade for draft picks and end up netting the #1 pick in the trade you can’t do much better. Bears absolutely struck gold on that trade

I agree with EJ about the Edge vs OT thing. Both with this year’s class and in general. Great OTs are harder to find, but the difference between a good edge and a great edge is more impactful I think than a good OT vs a great OT. A great edge can make a play by himself, wheras an OL is kind of only as strong as its weakest link in pass pro.

Commanders fan here! To give my take on the Montez trade, my assumption is that you use the money you were going to pay Sweat to get another premier FA pass rusher to relace him, such as Carl Lawson, then you have an extra 2rd pick to get another pass rusher such as possibly J.T Tuimoloau. It comes down to who would you rather have, Sweat or Lawson plus promising rookie? That being said I 1000% believe we need to use the 1rd to improve the offense around Howell, that could be taking LT at #4, but my ideal would actual be to trade back with a team that wants Jayden, then with your first of the two 2rd's trade up so you have two mid first round picks and take a OT and weapon for Howell

Just a thought…if the jets are debating on taking a WR at 7, why not take Brock bowers? Jeremy ruckert is young and good but he’s not the dynamic and versatile offensive weapon Brock bowers can be for you and he’s not stopping me from going there. Plus they can always go 2 TE (Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis?) I feel like that could be the play

There’s one single worst QB situation in the NFL and it’s not even Mac Jones… it’s Desmond Ridder. There’s not a chance in hell the Falcons don’t get their guy this offseason, I doubt it’s the guy the Bears are giving up on. I know it’s a terrible spot but they have to give up a Julio haul for Jayden, or trade down for Penix, etc. Also, their interior is great, they need an alpha EDGE. I think that would be in free agency, but an EDGE would make more sense than Newton. They need a speedy WR2 badly, but not until they answer the QB question.

Washington fan here, responding to your Washington take on Montez… I’m with you for the most part, and I definitely wish we kept Sweat but I also understood the move to an extent. Between him and chase I figured we’d trade one and I was absolutely hoping it wouldn’t be Montez. He was significantly more polished IMO with his pass rush moves and was significantly more productive. Chase I’ve always thought has elite size and athleticism but hasn’t quite added some of the nuance to his game yet that’s required when going up against NFL LTs. Both great, but I honestly think our roster is so devoid of talent at so many positions that they felt like they needed to stockpile some picks to be able to upgrade those other areas. And you’re exactly right, we still are going to need to go out and use some of those to replace those two, but the picks maybe just give a bit more flexibility so I understood the thought process. Kinda hoping now that we’re in the 2 slot (and I’m assuming we stay there) that if we don’t decide to take whichever of the top 2 QBs remain that we trade back a few spots and address one of the many other roster holes we have and continue to stockpile/add talent. Love your videos!

As a Washington fan I was pretty shocked by the double edge trade, but based on the feelings from the organization they really just treated it like a cleanse. The new owners only got here in August so it seems like they just want to liquidate all the assets they can and hand the reigns to a new gm. We now have three top forty picks and five top hundred with 100 mil to spend, and the vibes from the fan base is to draft and offense and buy a defense, especially with the premium on the top left tackles and the size of the fa edge group. I’m probably in the ot group, but if we beat the jets this weekend and we end up down at 7-8 instead of 3-4 I’d say latus likely the favorite. That being said, I’ve also seen a lot of fans tired of first round dlineman and want a change of pace with the new group. End of the day, as long as the new gm actually has a plan, something that’s been absent from dc for awhile now, we’d all be happy to just watch what will likely be the most important off season our franchise has had in decades. Love the pod, looking forward to seeing more on the prospects to fill out all of those picks!

i think the true important question about the bears at #1 is where would you rank Justin fields in this draft class and based on what? is he 3rd best? is he 4th best? and does that opinion hold up generally around the league? me personally i think he has a fair argument he's QB2 this year everything considered and if that is true predominantly across the league should the patriots, other teams in the top 5 be primarily targeting him early? even more likely are teams outside the top 15-20 picks do they genuinely owe the bears a 1st round pick to trade for him?
@FantasySportsZen
@FantasySportsZen 6 месяцев назад
You're leaving out the impact of contract. MONEY talks. Especially at QB, it's a cost-benefit analysis more so than a strict talent evaluation. Fields would be 2nd in this class behind Daniels for me, but no team is giving up a 1st round pick for him as he's on the doorstep of being "due" Scrooge McDuck money. Tough spot for the Bears.

Given that the Jets are likely to enter April w/out a reliable starting tackle on the roster, their Plan A should really be: trade back in the 1st, secure a top-55ish pick in the compensation, and take the two best OTs available w/ those first two picks. In a perfect world, the first pick lands you Fuaga/Latham/Mims, the second is used on Jordan Morgan/Patrick Paul, and you've pulled off a dazzling team-building coup... even in the (admittedly quite plausible) event that a worthwhile OT isn't available by the second pick, you shrug it off and gladly pivot to the best WR or DT available. This would never happen in a million years: the Jets decision-makers have neither the boldness nor the imagination to pull it off. But it's the best move, no doubt in my mind.

I'm not sure I buy the "institutional pressure" angle re: Caleb Williams. I think regardless of who the Bears commit to out of Fields, Williams, or Maye, if one or, god forbid, both of the others perform better over the next 2-3 years, then Poles or whoever else is still going to get skewered. Nobody's going to go easy on a GM bungling the #1 pick like that just bc the player was supposed to be the guy according to the outside noise.

I'm a bears fan and although I would be ok with either qb I think Maye is the better pick. I think he has a higher floor with a close ceiling. He has the same amount of rushing yards as Caleb while playing 8 games less. He is a cleaner pocket passer while still being able to scramble or run if needed. I think he has a better attitude as a leader. I'm just worried they might be gunshy based on Trubisky and they are nothing alike. I think they might trade out not only to get more capitol but also to avoid making the "wrong" choice between them. I don't think Fields can mentally make the quick tight reads, he can make the throw but doesn't process quick enough or trust it enough. He waits until they're wide open or if they're not he runs.

Montez Sweat only averaged about 7 sacks a season (never got more than 9) & that's why Washington felt it wasn't worth it to pay the premium edge rusher contract he wanted come season's end. Yes, in hindsight, it's easy to ask what Brett asked: "why'd you trade him if he gave you the sack total you wanted?" when in reality, statistically, Sweat underperformed in terms of sacks. Do I wish we kept him (as a Redskins fan)? Sure, but at the time of the trade, I was ok with it, all things considered.

Falcons fans definitely know who AD Mitchell is from his time in Georgia. Lol! I like him but it's a really solid WR class and we will either have 2 2nd round picks or 2 3rd round picks because of the Calvin Ridley trade. As for Jerzhan Newton, we already have not only 2 great starting DTs, but even solid backup DTs. Onyemata doesn't set the edge. He's our best interior pass rusher and he has been top 5 in that win rate. We need Edge Pass Rushing even if Calais comes back. So without FA in mind or the ability to trade up for a QB, then we're looking at the 2nd best Edge Rusher since Latu is off the board. Take your pick here, but with Ryan Nielsen's defensive philosophy in mind, I'm thinking Jared Verse.
@Falconsriseup

Pretty much nailed it on everything you just said and is what most Falcon fans would say i think. Or DT and CB group run deep deep if we bring the guys who have played well back next year. DT - Grady, Onyemata, Graham, Street, London, and Huggins have all played awesome for us when asked to. Heck even Campbell and Zach Harrison slide into DT at times and do very well there as well. As for CB - AJ, Okudah, Dee Alford, Clark Phillips, Mike Hughes, and Tre Flowers are about as good as you could ask for top to bottom at CB. We might could use a depth one if Okudah leaves but alford and Phillips are more than good enough for #2 and 3.

As a Jets fan, EJ is 100% correct here. WR2 is a concern, but OT is a disaster. If one of the top 2 OTs are on the board then the Jets must take one of them. No question. Rodgers has a history of elevating mid WRs anyway. Protecting him and opening up holes for Hall to run through is the priority.

I think the Falcons will be wise to kick the tires on a cheap trade for Russel Wilson now that he’s benched in Denver. If you look at the Seahawks teams where he previously succeeded and look at the Falcons roster - it’s a perfect fit. Bijan is there. He’s got tall, visible, talented receivers in Atlanta. A good offensive line. It just smells like a Falcons move too.

When someone says" I THINK " Calab is a better QB than Zack Wilson it means you should maybe not draft Caleb!

Caleb isn't generational in terms of talent so I wouldn't draft him at 1. The bears need so many things that they need to trade back and get a haul of picks. If you think they need to replace Fields then it needs to be done later rounds.

As an LSU fan who doubted the hell out of Jayden Daniels. QB 1 Jayden 2 Caleb Williams 3 Bo Nix 4 Michael Penix 5 Drake Maye its just the correct answers

Are we forgetting about breece hall for the jets? Or is he not counted as a weapon due to b3ing a rb?

Washington needs both Edge and Tackle... And they have traded away high end a high end edge and tackle for day 2 picks...

Is the plan to keep doing this each month and take off one "way" each time?

33:40 the reason is likely they want to hit a mini reset. New owner and after next week, it'll soon be a new HC and GM too. Montez and Chase ruin the tank (coaches and players don't want this but a new ownership group that wants to put their stamp on things does). So trading them saves you that cap space, helps you lose games easier, and gets you some extra draft picks

I like his game. Not sure about WR4 (a little rich for my blood in this draft), but he's nice.
