Yeah the anti-semitism accusations really helped to cripple the Labour Party. I wonder how will Keir Starmer will handle this? Found a pretty good analysis of what Keir Starmer needs to do to revive the Labour Party in Britain: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2ggqLCyF8is.html
There is nothing new or futuristic here; just the same worn out clapped out clichés and selective deafness and blindness. The real future would be hacks that expose and report of the crime no matter what party was doing it. You don't do that, hence Corbyn would have to be a tory before you wrote about his racism. DDN just another boring band of bigots.
Love the way you give us a "Highlighted reply" and all it is is a thick moronic childish insult. Not one intelligent point, no reasoned argument, just infantile drivel. I really must be getting to you; underlining to you how thick and moronic you are. You haven't a thing to offer in intelligent response. "Future of journalism" Childish little tantrums when your schoolboy drivel is (painfully easily) pulled apart. Try reading some books.
A useful (and moderate) analysis. One of the most depressing aspects of the Labour antisemitism saga has been the absence of any sort of balanced discussion on the BBC and in the Guardian. Instead both routinely take the antisemitism story as proven, offering no voice to its critics while giving unchallenged space to Corbyn-haters. The last straw for me was Keir Starmer’s decision to feature ‘Labour antisemitism’ so prominently in his victory speech. He’ll find that the lobby doesn’t believe in compromise and will accept nothing less than a party purged of all Palestinian sympathisers.
Starmer may be willing to acquiesce, at that. Imagine if the BBC platformed Graeber, Chomsky and Finkelstein as often as bad faith anti-semitism accusers. Guess we need to find a way around that, somehow.
Err, you do know that Lisa Nandy is the chair of Labour Friends of Palestine? No, you're just chucking around sectarian bullshit that drives away good comrades who don't have the exact same ideology as you.
Modern Socialist : Yes I knew about Nandy but I am not responsible for her contradictory positions. She claims to support Palestinians but at the same time backs the IHRA definition, the majority of examples of which are not about prejudice against Jews but about defending Israel from criticism. She also supports the ‘ten pledges’ demanded of Labour which bind the Party to one (right wing and ultra-Zionist) source of guidance about antisemitism, Israel and just about anything else.....
@@brianmcdevitt8239 And when Corbyn entered Parliament he swore an oath to be loyal to the Queen. It's just a bunch of BS that's just makes idiots feel good. What's important is actions not some words in an irrelevant document.
So sad that such an articulate and nuanced intellectual like David Graeber is no longer with us, but at least his work will be. *Bullshit Jobs* is an amazing book and absolutely worth a read.
I love this, David Graeber has expressed everything I have been feeling, but as a non Jewish person not equipped with the facts I did not feel qualified to say my self.
@@bartversteege2910 I think you need to work on your comprehension. Here is a link to some work sheets. m.k5learning.com/reading-comprehension-worksheets
I wish Corbyn had defended himself as eloquently as you did. I always wondered what narrative would have developed if these bad faith actors had been called out on their bullshit
@@mercia1198 I get your point. Sometimes I wish he'd just let rip. He just seemed too nice. That's the unfairness of politics. The shitebags play dirty and get what they want
@@roberttelford745 You nailed it right there, I truely believe if you're not a scumbag, you won't get anywhere. I suppose Corbyn had no dirt on him, so the powers that be could not manipulate him.
@@anthonytom-duyquang3558 Firstly the EHRC report was DAMNING. And the denials and conspiracy theories spouted by the left are EXACTLY the same as the BNP used after their own damning EHRC report, Downloading and sharing anti semetic images from the far right Aryan Nation website , threatening MP's and Jewish members with death threats .terms such as Zionist scum/Hitler is right are pure undiluted racism that a large hard core of the left/momentum happily took part in (and it was Momentum who told their sheep to claim it was 0.4% which they happily did with further death threats to Zionist scum. The fact that searchlight and other organisations who monitor the far right said about the race hate of Corbyn's labour that "The far right couldn't teach them a damn thing" sums it up. To pathetically say antisemitism is being "Weaponised" is moronic, If any political fanatics weaponize issues it is 100% the left who have weaponised everything from Islamophobia to climate change to covid deaths,. The left is increasingly irrelevant to issues affecting the working classes as it is over run with public school/sheltered middle classes that have no idea of working class aspirations and sensibilities , If they al would just bugger off (and take Corbyn with them) and form their own party Labour could go back to key consensus issues that have the support and interests of the working classes-they wouldn't do the slightest damage to Labour as they wouldn't poll more than 200 votes in any constituency whereas they make Labour totally unelectable with their odious usurping of the party (doing their born Tory duty of winning votes for no one bar the Tory Party of their birth right) At the moment we have a vile bigoted intolerant right and an equally vile bigoted intolerant left that this fool chooses to support with a weak and feeble diatribe. You are either against6 racism 100% or you are not and like the far right the far left has proved beyond doubt it is not. Anti semitism for them is "Cool racism". They are blood brothers only to the BNP and Aryan Nation, Why support that ?
As an anti-poverty campaigner, I had been pulling my hair out with frustration at the Labour Party who instead of trying to save the lives of the working class poor; the sick; the disabled, and even the dying; Instead tried to save their own Tory Blair political careers by pouring all their energy along with the right-wing press to demonise Jeremy Corbyn by the Weaponisation of their Labour Antisemitism. R.I.P David, you have brought such peace to me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Cathy McCormack xxx
Thunderwolf666 oh but don’t you know, he couldn’t bring himself to vote for corbyn because he had ‘serious concerns’ about anti semitism in the Labour Party. Of course, we see now in America what happens when the left doesn’t back the centre ‘Bernie or bust is narcissistic, childish and it’s helping the right wing get into power’ But when centrists help the right wing into power, it’s not their narcissism, childishness or even ideological alignment with the right....it’s in fact the fault of the left for not being good enough to vote for. This is why we can’t stop talking about this. I’m sick of guardian types telling me ‘stop taking about the press, it’s boring’ It was the deciding factor last election, as it was in the US primary that just happened. These are the same people who completely bought into the anti semitism scandal and tried to engage with it in good faith.
@@CarlyonProduction I completely agree with you. I highly doubt that JOB didn't vote labour because of concerns over anti-semitism, far more likely his concerns were over the fact that Labour was no longer the Blairite neoliberal centrist party his paymasters were comfortable with.
During summer of 2019 I tried continually to get something like this out in any mainstream news source. All refused. The only people who'd touch me was Open Democracy and even that after weeks of negotiation.
Similarly, the US media has been handily manufacturing consent for Joe Biden, going so far as to completely stonewall a rape allegation against him. Getting round this is going to be tricky, to put it mildly.
1st and foremost Corbyn was Human. He didn't have a bad bone in his body he was anti racist for all, inc jews and wanted a more equal society. It's a fact undeniable that Israeli treatment of Palestinians is racism of highest order.
That was one of the best videos that I have seen on this subject. It was also disturbing. The thing that really annoys me is the number of gullible people who actually believe the racial hatred that spew out from some sources. I have worked and lived in the UK, Muslim Middle East, and North America. I have worked with Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, you name it, as well as atheists. There's very little difference between any of them. Just culture and language. Everyone has a right to follow their own path as long as it doesn't impact harshly on others. It's very easy to make small allowances to allow others enjoy their own culture. It actually enriches our society. I could use history to show that every religion is evil using anecdotal evidence. My own personal anecdotal evidence shows that almost everyone really wants the same thing. Food, warmth, a roof, a few luxuries, and security to live a peaceful life. I say "almost" because of the greed of a few who want it all. I enjoyed my time in the Middle East. I fail to understand why some people seem to feel that other cultures are a threat to them. It always interested my inquisitive nature.
You know that bit in I'm Alan Partridge where he organises a James Bond marathon but his VHS player breaks so he starts in desperation to describe the bond films scene by scene? Boris Johnson's novel reads like that monologue.
Well said David 😊 The truth will only ever get in the way if it suits the agenda of those who would oppose those genuine believers in the possibility of a democracic socialist future, so not particularly common! 🙄 #DDN 💕
I would just like to know if it's OK to condemn Israel for what they've done to the Palistinians & continue to do. Is that racist, it seems Israel plays the racist card so they don't have to answer to the crimes they've committed against Palistine
I only found out about David Graeber today, from The New Enlightenment With Ashley. I really like the way he thought and spoke. We need more People like him.
Jeremy Corbyn's pro Palestinian stance brought with it a lot of pro Palestinian supporters. A lot of those are anti Semite. The language used in these circles about Jewish people, not the Israeli government, is appalling
Have you heard the language that racist Jews, in particular Zionists use against Palestinians and others. Racism in Israel is truly appalling. I stayed there many years ago and it has not become any better. If you support Zionism, you are a racist.

@@chrishampton2565 you simply have no idea how hard it is to get "insightful, informative" positions like this in the news. I spent most of the summer of 2019 trying to get anyone in the British press to run a story like this. Hit a total brick wall. So I eventually got it in Open Democracy only after some negotiation. @@davidgraeber5046 I've read the article you linked. I think the problem may well be that it was too honest and sincere. It wasn't sensationalist for the hacks we have here in the printed press. I imagine that you frightened them to despair, with the quality of your debate. To use something as serious as antisemitism to silence people who wanted to create a better Britain is very sad. When antisemitism and islamaphobia is rife in the Tory Party it’s even more heartbreaking.
Everything you said is true but as a non Jew I didn't feel I had the right to say it. We missed the chance of having a good man who would work for everyone, to bring about a flattening to the financial discrepancies between rich and poor. Purely on the economic side, its us poorer people that purchase not stash our money in offshore accounts, it's the riffraff that will provide local economic stimulus. Well that's my two halfpenny worth.
nope. many jews support palestinians n criticise israeli atrocities. *and* they see the result of the recent enquiry - *and* they see that mural and cant believe corbyn wd not *immediately* see it as antisemitic ... and they cannot see how this type of thinking helps or helped anyone.
Thank you so much for making this point, and amazing that you got someone as articulate and intelligent as Graeber to speak. When I saw his name in the title I knew this would be worth a watch.
Got a book written by Graeber by an intellectual who later on accused my spouse to advertise antisemitism. She is a university professor for social work and gave a safe space to speak for Palestinians at a symposium she organised (a jewish group was also invited but denied participation when they realised that Palestinians were also allowed to speak!). The term antisemitism is high jacked here in Germany by those who ignore the extrem Israelian political right wingers. These people are extreme in their ideas of self defense in a way that puts them very close to those that initiated the Shoa by their actions. Not a true Scotsman arguments against Jewish Israelian leftists, are common here. A war about the highness of definition of terms is ongoing now. It's quite interesting that non-white South Africans look at the middle east and speak clearly of Apartheid (at least) in the occupied areas, which causes an outburst of resistance here amongst intellectuals claiming that this is untrue. They deny the real experts concerning Apartheid to define it when they see it. Dark days are ahead!
Graber here is wrong, and cannot commit to a critique of settler coloniality. His failure to do so is one which any critical academic project must reckon with immediately.
Zoom out. Big picture - No one believed the accusations anyway. The more it was discussed, the more insular an echo chamber the normies thought of the people arguing about it. Normal voters just thought of the accusations as 'pc gone mad'. The way to deal it, was to dismiss it with contempt. Ok boomer would've done fine.
Thank you. I think you nailed it when you describe the provenance of Zionism, that was the crack the 'Labour is Anti -Semite' pitch forker carriers used. The mistake of Labour MP's accused of anti-Semitism, who rightly called out the appalling behaviour of Netanyahu and his party, was to use the word Zionism without understanding the meaning it carried for older members of British Jews leading the charge at Labour. A better approach would have been to drop the use of the label Zionism and focus on Netanyahu and his party and their abuse of the land and people of Palestine.
Because some are some are not, Worse thing in life is not knowing who you are, culture wise, Am glad I know am kikuyu and its my culture and I feel loved,
Do you notice that, with Corbyn's resignation and the election of Keir Starmer, the Labour anti-semitism issue has vapourised? The MSM has spectacularly lost interest.
I can think of something else like this that has happened. When Ukraine was part of the USSR if a UK newspaper had anything in its travel pages about Kiev (as Kyiv was then called) it was "de rigueur" to include a description of the Babi Yar Massacre (in which the invading Nazis killed almost all of the Jews whom they could find in Kiev), ending with the observation that the few survivors of the massacre had heard some of the perpetrators speaking fluent Ukrainian as well as German. Now that "the west" is cultivating Ukraine the UK media never mention the Babi Yar Massacre at all; it is as if they now deny that it took place.
I am not Jewish, but I look Jewish and the hate I receive is pretty great. I am poor and that's partly because I will never get opportunities. I have to work shit jobs, and usually even in these jobs I still get treated pretty poorly by pretty much everyone. I sympathize with real Jews, the hatred Jews face for not having blue eyes, blonde hair, and a certain face shale is pretty insane.
