From the incredible album "In The Garden" from 1959 on RCA Victor. Recorded in RCA's Studio B in Nashville TN. All songs on the album were recorded in one take!
I love the sacred , uncluttered sound of early southern gospel music , it puts your heart in a worshipful , and long for Heaven frame of mind! Cannot wait for Jesus Second coming!! Even so come, Lord Jesus!!! Thanks!!
Not many people know that Earl taught Armond to sing bass. He hired him at age 16. The songs on the album were all first take. My mom was Earl's first piano player in 1944 and I was his last one in the 90s. I sang with them for about 7 yrs. Fun times and alot of memories.
As listed above the bass is a young Armand Morales who would follow the Big Chief's footsteps to have a long Southern Gospel career with the Weatherfords and the Imperials. Jake Hess sang with the Big Chief in the Statesmen and Morales in the Imperials and enjoyed both of them.
