I feel so bad for Meade... you can see the complete change in his character from when he 1st got there til now. He was so happy & excited at first & now he seems so drained and sad. He doesn't need to apologize anymore, at this point, Shelby is being the jerk...
Why is everyone jumping on Meade? He reacted the way he shouldve. I mean hello this stranger comes along and Meade can clearly see that he wants his girl who is engaged to him.
I don't think meed should of had to apologize he's always having to apologize,he was only protecting his bride. Lut on the other hand was in the wrong all day long,he should have apologized to shelby,meade and her family for his behavior.
I assumed it was just a little crush and thought it was cute. Now McNeal is getting to fresh with Shelby, an ENGAGED wom of than. Dude just give it up, dnt you have three daughters to take care of or something. I also think McNeal secretly wants to be a part of Oval social circle and sees Shelby as his way in.

He married Lynn's charcter because her father (from where their money came from) was a reputable professor, and thus part of the solidified middle class.
