You know it’s a good day when the OC Lifeguards anchor up right outside to collect the ragdolls who get worked then swept back out. I had a brand new Excel superduperhyperretardedstretch suit that the Wedge filled with so much water during one awful beatdown that the seams split down both legs when I tried to stand up after crawling up the sand...first I looked like one of those morbidly obese Walmart shoppers with the uberfat cankles who putz around in those electric scooter-carts drinking a dozen Diet Pepsi’s (diet, cuz you know, healthy). After the legs burst wide open, I looked like a middle-aged Magic Mike in tear off pants. But not a good Magic Mike, more like a retired donut-eating sits in too many meetings wearing stretch-waist slacks version, who can only book gigs in the conference room of a Best Western just off the 405 in Garden Grove. The only good part of the story: Inflight surf shop replaced the suit no charge, so props to those dudes. Those are my specs...

what blows my mind is the number of people in the water. I am old but when I was growing up in SoCal you would maybe see a couple guys out on boards in these conditions.
