Around '69, maybe '70, I was walking around NYC with a friend and Al Kooper came out of an apartment building with a bicycle. Al and I turned around to look at each other, I considered saying something but I didn't want to bother him. I was and still am a big fan of Al Kooper, it was pretty cool seeing him.

It’s true - you can hear him singing “Southern Man” on left side using headphones. That’s so cool.

I have heard Sweet Home Alabama hundreds of times. I just heard Southern Man in the background. Amazing.

Maybe, as he says, he can't do gigs, travel or drive anymore but he can still entertain the heck out of us and inspire!

Al Kooper, the one and only. With Blues Project, Michael Bloomfield, Shuggie Otis, Blood Sweat & Tears and on his own, this man is a music powerhouse. Al didn't stand still, never played it safe, that's what makes him so interesting and enjoyable to listen to. This might seem strange to Kooper fans but with the kool blues he recorded and the jazz leanings with BS&T, one song I constantly get a kick out of is his version of Marvin Gaye's "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby".

Al having Merry Clayton sing back up on Sweet Home was perfect def.influenced RVZ to bring in the Honketts witch in turn helped set Skynyrd apart and still does.
