Totally agree. But in my opinion, this album is every much as good, if not better than those mixtapes. The lyrics are more evolved and obviously the production is in another league for obvious reasons

Jordan Pinheiro I respect your opinion. Certainly, there’s maturity in his lyrics. Dev wanted that toxic weeknd that we’ve seen in trilogy but he’s grown; he’s 30. He was apologetic and recognised his toxic tendencies. The album was a cry for help IMO. Trilogy, for most, captures a feeling in time that cannot be recreated.

Zain Ali I agree. People want something that a 20 year old made when he’s 30. I’m personally glad he isn’t as toxic because I want the man to grow and reap the benefits of maturity. I hope Abel one day finds he doesn’t need drugs and random sex to fill a void, along with the countless other celebrities that feel the same emptiness. That’s why I try to not compare to past projects too much except for the production and lyrical ability. I think this project has both in spades. Like you pointed out, we will never get another Trilogy, which is perfect for me. If he tried to, it would just sound stale and old. One can never truly recreate something, only push forward. I think After Hours did that just fine and even better than his other official albums.

Starboy is still his best album imo. As for the new one, it took me a couple listens to really get into it. I thought the last half of the album was way better than the first half.

TheeDevilWearsPrada Starboy didn’t really age well if I’m being honest. It’s one of those albums where you hear once or twice from start to finish and it’s hype asf but it loses its shine as time goes on. Trilogy and kiss land however, they damn aged like fine wine.

Yeah those songs were incredible and really really add to the album’s story especially with save your tears.

I knew he wasn’t gonna like In Your Eyes or Save Your Tears as the album progressed. IYE is actually my favorite track, but that’s because I like The Weeknd’s upbeat sounds despite also being a fan from the House of Balloon days.

@@kidus_1010 tbh I thought so too, but after multiple listens to the album, that track grew on me more and more. Every track has its place I feel. Might take a couple more listens maybe?
