He’s always talks to his fans through his videos. Pretty much what I can get from it is that since we only really love his music when he’s in pain from love and when he’s at his peak with drugs. So like at the beginning where the crowd see it as only an act with his face cut up like that. He keeps a smile like everything is ok but when he’s alone is when the smile fades and he is left alone to suffer to those emotions. In his other video for heartless the same image is used for when the drug kicks in but this time all he sees is red. He’s loosing himself and fighting all the demons he’s had inside . So in the trip of the drug the ppl he kills in the elevator symbolizes him killing his love that was left in his heart leading that the demons won and he is now fully heartless. ( and also the joker movie was a big inspiration for these videos he’s been putting out)

I think the "joker" type of potrayal here translates to his life in pop culture, making happy radio friendly upbeat songs, everyone expects and sees the happiness potrayed but thats not how he might truly feel, he could be really trying to (esp after the break-up) but from time to time he gets "dragged" into a dark (hellish) space where he has these wicked thoughts and tendencies, which is reminicent of his earlier darker work like trilogy and kissland (which every OG xo fans loved) my 2 cents. Could def have another meaning.

Wow. The beat going along with the video really added to the feeling as well. I battle severe anxiety and the feelings that intensified & the pace of the anxiety growing was actually something I really could relate with, without even understanding what was going on. You can feel pulled and yanked from one way to the other with your demons, anxiety & depression. I saw someone mention there are other mv & a few clips on his insta that start the "story" so I'm going to try to find those, because I'm intrigued. Hey, maybe you could do a mv segment with the connecting ones these & those of us who don't know could go through them together! Anyway, that video caught my attention for sure.

Lol definitely not him selling his soul. He’s “forced to make records” because it’s his talent. Got him from homeless to Forbes list. This is after hours because you see him in a new light. After hours when the job is done (him performing) he’s sad hurt and alone even with the fame. It has nothing to do with selling his soul.

Ok. You have to remember to put all of the videos other...where one stops the next starts... he was beat up in the club scene.... go back and watch them all one after the other.... I think it’s a helicopter in his glasses... Remb he’s only smiling when he’s with the fans... the flowers are a throw back to the other video when shit hits fan and he starts tripping on the 🐸.... also go back and watch the 30 sec shorts on his IG or Twitter before he released the first song as teasers.... but yeah, you know we won’t be able to fully understand until his whole album drops and all the videos are released. Then we can break down the symbolism.... just like the black cat/black panther of Star Boy.... I have a few more theory’s and thoughts but this post is already to long. Lol. DesertOf MyMind Hell yeah... so just keep in mind he’s a different character in each chapter/album/ep... so the new album After Hours brings us a new character.... only three songs have been released thus far - Heartless, Blinding Lights, & Heartless. He’s preformed BL & HL on tv, so watch those too because they will blow your mind.... you can also go to his Twitter and IG to see the teasers he released before the songs... 🙏🏻 I’m so happy when people go balls deep into his music. DesertOf MyMind so here my advice. If you do or don’t listen to his “chapters” in order at least listen to the whole album/ep/mix take from beginning to end. Don’t pick a choose a song. He designs them like a book where each song is a climb til mid to half way through the album then it climaxes and slowly winds down. Also please keep an open mind while starting any of his music. You have to let your brain digest the sounds you’re hearing because it’s foreign in a lot of his older stuff. Make sure you listen to each album a few times before deciding if you like it...it will grow on you...even over the years. Also break Trilogy up into the 3 mix tapes. Each one has a different vibe. Once you’ve processed them alone, start jamming Trilogy as a whole. KissLand...some people love it some people learn to love it and a few don’t like it....please take your time with KissLand. It’s out of this world good. By the time you get to BBTM (beauty behind the madness) you’ve gotten to his more main stream sound..... Star Boy has some songs that if you were to hear independently without the back reference to his earlier work, you’d hate.... ok so once you’ve got through all of that, it’s time to put in work reading all of his interviews and learning what each song means and the things it doesn’t mean when you thought you knew. Use the website Genius. It will help you sooooooo much.

7:59 That was my face frequently in my first 2 years of college. There was a lot of fun but also just as much disappointment, anger, and sadness. I feel like the subway scene represents addiction. You can't see it, but it takes hold of you and will drag you through your life screaming. Then, it will change you and take you places you never planned on going, make you hide behind masks, shade your eyes from others, even force you to devour them if it deems it necessary. Addiction must feed, first on you, then it will use you to feed on others. That's what I get from this short film. Also, unfortunately loneliness can be a trigger to get high or drink or whatever. Loneliness is a killer too. The Weekend though is one of the most creative artists ever in my opinion. I truly hope his heart is not lonely and nothing sinister has a hold of him. Alex j M. Totally,as you can see when the couple gets in the elevator,Abel is looking at the man and we hear her screams,so that makes me think he only killed the man. Also the woman's hair looks just like Selena Gomez's , when she went blonde right after she and Abel broke up. There are few pictures on the internet from that time, where Selena and Justin are together and she has the same hair style and brown jacket as the girl in the video. I don't know, maybe I'm just tripping and looking to much into it,but after Abel's MDM and After Hours track ,his relationship with Selena and him ending it must've hurt him,but she going back to Justin Bieber right after,that hurt like hell. So the way I see it, he just kills Justin Bieber or the root of his hurt from that time. Lol

it’s his way of expressing the way the demons in him are driving him crazy, he sold his souls for those who don’t know. if you pay attention to the music video in “Can’t feel my face” and “The Hills”, the devil lit him up so he cant “feel his face” and in the The Hills he goes in the room where the devil is to sell his soul

Just another tid-bit... If you go to TheWeeknd’s web site, (easiest way to find the video) and look for the video Docupoem. This video puts together some of the hints and teasers he out out on IG & twitter before releasing MDM, (My Dear Melecoly). THEN....For Star Boy he released a video putting all the symbolisms together with multiple of the Star Boy videos. Its called Mania, which you can also find a little easier if you go to his web site... He has so many videos on RU-vid, they can get lost. There is one guy that commented the best explanation of how all of it goes together and what it means. XOTWOD by the way, everyone has there own meaning of XOTWOD...depending on where you are at in researching the meaning of the songs, XOTWOD means something different... for me, once i started down the rabbit hole of research and non-stop listing to Abel, I was at the point of Over Dosing on his music and info about him.... Now I only listen to The Weeknd 99.9% for the last almost 7 years... That’s what XOTWOD means to me... x o til we over does.

The couple at the end, he turns his head towards the guy when the elevator closes! I feel like the couple represents Justin and Selena in some type of way because Selena had blonde hair when she got back with him and Justin had a shaved head. The couple are also arguing representing their toxic relationship. I have a feeling that he only kills the guy. This my interpretation.
