Whilst digging for some tunes to play this Saturday Night at RCC, I reminded myself how much I love the synths in 'Blinding Lights' by The Weeknd. Here's a stripped back version on a couple of my favourite synths 🎹🎹🎹
Drums: Ableton Push 2 (Linndrum Samples)
Synth Pads : Roland SH2 & Jupiter 4
Synth Bass: Moog Multimoog
Synth Lead: SCI Prophet 5 Rev 3
Synth Chords: Roland Juno 6
Vocoder: Roland VP330 Vocoder Plus

Good lord - the bass actually sounds better than on the original 😬. Still warm, phat and chewy, but with that extra something in the resonance... Fantastic job.

I think it was done by Synth legend Mike Dean. He's pretty legit, and has a big synth collection. Not sure what he used though.

That’s because the song is originally made with old analog synths. That’s the only way to get the true feeling of the 80s. The new software sounds too crispy and clean whereas the old analog has that fuzziness that 80s music has

When did you start taking lessons ? When players do the "lifty arm" move on the whole notes it's a dead giveaway they took lessons.. most of the time anyway.. nothing to be ashamed of and I'm not making fun. I've had a lot of students that used the move..
