The Trilogy will forever be The Weeknd's best album. His new stuff is good too because come on, his voice is so angelic with a hint of pain it's so damn beautiful. But they lack the depth his old stuff has. I love his dark & poetic stuff like this.
I feel like his new music is just as good. I think it's not as dark & mysterious as the old stuff because of newer things he's been experiencing like traveling the world and having a gf lol. Nonetheless all Abel does is make addicting music ❌⭕️
Yes, thank you. No depth now. Not to say his new stuff is bad, but there's a clear difference in the themes he covers. The songs are more shallow now, with overly repetitive choruses. His new material, you can dance to; his old material...you can float on every lyric and drown in the beat.
He ain't changed at all except for the status he has. He's ALWAYS provided us with that real life dark shit... The sexual encounters, the use & over usage of drugs/ alcohol, the exploitation of problems people incur in life, being on the streets, living in the moment.... He exploits the dark side of life's fortunes... Weeknd's always brought us that real dark shit wether it be in a slow song or a up & at it song. He has proven that he can bring a variety in his sound and still deliver what we know him for.... I appreciate every one of his songs, even the ones I don't give play much.... Only some generic phucks are gonna want to hear that same sort of sound.... There's a replay button for those folks:P Weeknds still providing us with what he always has.
@7kole4 eh, some of his songs now may cover some of those darker themes...but it lacks that ethereal "soulfulness" that was such a huge part of his authenticity as an artist. His songs were narratives. Each song on the Trilogy album resonated with the CD's titles (House of Balloons, Thursday, or Echoes of Silence). Some of the beats/melody (I'm not really keen on music jargon) in his new material, like track 5 of Beauty Behind the Madness, have strong, mainstream hip-hop influences. I don't care about an artist staying on the same note in every album. That's not what I'm saying...it's important for an artist to always redefine themselves in their craft and experiment. I just think his new album isn't as strong as the Trilogy. Usually when an artist becomes mainstream, their crossover album won't be at the same level as their underground album. You're appealing to a larger audience, so yeah, his album now is for mass appeal. Not to say that every artist do this, but most do.
Girl in the picture is portraying Tippi Hedren who plays as Melanie Daniels in the 1963 American psychological horror-thriller film "The Birds". A must watched classical film, highly recommend it. After you watch it, listen to The Birds: part 1 & 2. Pay close attention to the Melanie Daniels character!
This song is on another level, the vibe of this song to me is pure sadness something like when you feel alone and loveless for some reason but you don’t want to feel that way because you really love someone but that person can’t be with you and you know it, and then you just keep finding yourself in this lonely places in the city where nobody is there actually but you, just sitting there feeling isolated and empty.
Day 1 fan! Met him at a concert 2 years ago and my first words were "Abel day 1 since House of Balloons!" Thought he would ignore me but he was real excited but he was in a golf cart with that model. One of the best days of my life.
Thursday is so underrated, I think it's deeper than people think it is. I still remember how much I sobbed when I first listened to it. It took me weeks for me to listen to it without crying. I consider it to be in the same league as his depressing songs (Echoes of Silence, Rolling Stone, Valerie, Wicked Games) his soft miserable voice and the beat are mainly what made me so emotional. "I've been here for too long, baby don't cry" I felt like this line spoke to me I felt like he was talking to me and trying to console me, another line that really gets me is "Just wait on Thursday only Thursday" this will come across as dramatic to non-XO family lmao
I know I’m only 17... realized I don’t think I’m really into relationships. But this stuff got me through depression the entire trilogy album including the kiss land album and every album after those two. I love The Weeknd sooo much.
Just turned 42 and I discovered him back in 2011 when he came out with the first song I heard him on with Drake Crew Love. Never knew he had 3 whole mixtapes out until 2013 when I heard Wicked Games. Saw him live last year FINALLY!! XOTWOD
I thank you for keeping these on here 10 years later. My late mother first introduced me into your music when you were coming up in 2011. I’ve been a fan since then. She passed away in 2017, so I now listen to these amazing songs in remembrance of her always recognizing talent before it blows up and just also off the strength of me loving your music. ❤️
Omg !! Me too !!! My mother wasn't same era but everytime i was playing Abel's and he was so young and just little few of us listened to him and was our secret . She was listening very accurately and waited silently for a while and said . This man has a beautiful heavenly opened clearly voice. And yes mama he is and became a legendary now . Rip ma . And ur mam too ❤
I started listening to the weekend in 2012 when I was 13 . My sisters tried their hardest to convince me that his music was weird and listening to him would just worsen my depression but honestly it didn't it helped me get through it . I love everything about this album I can play it straight through 💘 I love you Abel 💯
Same here. My father used to say that he wrote the most explicit lyrics ever and warned me not to hear his songs till I become mature enough to understand such things.
I love the vibes from trilogy. This song is so deep & sexy at the same time. Ugh Love this song.. Never have I loved and artist so much.. I listen to The Weeknd EVERYDAY.
We’re almost at the 10th anniversary of the whole mixtape (August 18th), i can’t wait to see what Abel’s gonna do. As for this video upload date, the 10th anniversary is actually next Thursday!!
Listening to Abel’s old music makes my soul leave my body. It’s so dark and poetic but I love it. Abel will never truly understand the impact his music has had on my life.
I was there waaaay earlier before X blew up but now they both are in my top 3 fav artist (next to Lil Peep). It was amazing to me when I heard about X listening to The Weeknd. I expected that Rest in peace Jah
+Amaya Mims Same... remember when I showed some of my friends the weeknd back in 2011, and they said his music was really weird. Now everybody is on his cock.
+Amaya Mims This shit used to happen all the fucking time!!! Everybody told me to change the music or that it was too slow and boring. Now I see them putting XO and Tesfaye on their username.
one of the first songs i listened to from the thursday mixtape at 15 and the first time i also listened to trilogy. this song is melancholic yet beautifully sung. time flies and I’ve been a fan since. xotwod forever. ❤️🩹✨💫
Thursday is not a day, its a mind state, the various swings of depression a person goes through, when he commits the worst possible sin, just to feed is uncontrollable addiction. Its like running away from home from all the abuse only to end up in a crack house with a needle in your vein while a beast takes advantage and all hope you ever had, away from you. Thursday is the moment from where the effect of the drug starts to wear off and the craving starts kicking in, to the point where the drug again takes over and controls your mind and body, like all sensations the orgasm is limited, than the process is repeated.
sexy05gal Nah, this song is about a girl that is so emotionally connected to him and offers him her body, offers him all of her. But her love and obsession with him is not reciprocated. She is his "Thursday" girl. "just wait on Thursday, baby only." "Are you feeling when I'm free?" She is there solely to fulfill his needs on Thursday. She gets beautiful for him on Thursdays and wants more, want all of him...but that will never occur. So she lives for Thursdays now, his presence and approval gives her life meaning, and the rest of the week is just a blurry and frantic wait until Thursday arrives yet again...until he eventually grows tired of her and moves on. And that is when her life loses meaning. A common theme in the trilogy is dark love and its toxic, addictive effects...and the helplessness and loss of self worth that comes from the withdrawal, whether it be drug or person. This is probably my favorite song from the mixtape, Thursday. My favorite mixtapes go in order from House of Balloons, Echoes of Silence, and then Thursday
The commentor Nomuna Batbayar is absolutely right. House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence (the REAL Weeknd) had depth and created a painfully twisted yet beautiful account of Abel's interactions with the 3 girls of each mixtape. In HoB, the unnamed woman is a good girl that the Weeknd hooks on his drugs and his love; Thursday has Valerie that's fallen for Abel so hard that the one day out of the week she gets to see him is the best time of her life and every other day she's an absolute wreck; Echoes of Silence is a whole new layer of fucked up shit with gangbang initiations into the XO crew and twisted dark love. (Note it's possible it's 3 mixtapes to show the relationship between Abel and the SAME girl but either way) At the end of the day the stories and the lyrical power that was used to create those stories is simply missing from Abel's new music and it's really sad. I hardly like to listen to him these days unless it's this old stuff and it bothers me that people are now obsessed with him but are only obsessed with his superficial pop crap...
Harrison Paige Makes you only recognize his genius when you realize he predicted all this on Rolling Stone. He'll be different, but he hopes you'll still listen...
Very true bro. The OG fans came from the hip hop side of things and his new fans are into Ariana Grande and Kpop. It's sad but we always got Trilogy and Kiss Land.
Especially after hearing his latest album, this comment is so relevant. I still remember when my sister introduced me to him back in high school. Thought he was a group because of the layering on the choruses. His old stuff is some of the most hypnotic music I’ve ever heard
2:11 - 2:16 hit home the hardest for me, I hate making mistakes in my relationship and when I do things usually end badly and hearing the weekend say "girl I tried" in such a defeated tone is literally me
I love her, today 'Cause it's Wednesday, I won't be late Now I need to know if you're feeling when I'm freeNot on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday Sunday but on Thursday, Thursday Not on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday Sunday but on Thursday, make sure you are thirsty Oh on Thursday, baby get ready oh on Thursday Whoa you hold it oh on Thursday, just wait on Thursday, Baby only ThursdayCan I try, can I try? The Weeknd - Thursday (Lyrics) I love her, today Cause it's Wednesday, I won't be late Now I need to know If you're feeling when I'm free (Hook) Not on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday Sunday, but on Thursday, Thursday Not on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday Sunday, but on Thursday, make sure You are thirsty oh, on Thursday, baby Get ready, oh, on Thursday Why you calling? (Hook) Thursday Thursday (Girl, get beautiful) Thursday Thursday (Girl, get beautiful) Thursday (Baby, I’m rushin' to it till then) Thursday (Girl, get ready at any time) Thursday (5x)
I remember back in 2012 when I got an iPod that had music already on it. The Weeknd's trilogy album was on it and I didn't really get into until about 3 years later. It's crazy how you don't like things when younger but overtime your tastes evolve.
I have no words to describe how his old music makes me feel so deeply. Goosebumps is an understatement. It's all so unique, sensual and dark all together. Almost disturbing and I love it.
true and i also love to see his music change. better than doing the same type of thing all the time, i love all of his songs tbh, they all make me feel a certain kind of way and all his music helps me personally
@@KennethLane90" baby why you calling? only on Thursday, I'll be beautiful for u only on Thursday, Not a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday but On Thursday 👀
I started listening to Abel after I heard him on Arianna Grande's song, "Love Me Harder". At first I thought TheWeeknd was a band but then I peeped it was only one dude, lol. So after that I looked up some of his old stuff and learned more about him. His first old song I listened to was Wicked Games and I fell in love. Now today I have an XO hoodie and plan on getting more (gotta rep), and still waiting to see him in concert (hopefully one day). Thursday is one of my favorite songs ofc and I listen to it every Thursday (cheesy I know). I wish I would've found him back then so I could've had a chance to hear him perform his old songs live, that would've been epic!!
I have no idea how to describe this sensation that I get whenever I listen to this song. It is so MISTY, dreamy, almost spiritul. These bells in the background makes it sound somewhat primeaval, tribal. I feel atmosphere similar to some drug-induced, prolonged The Doors improvisation like from their song "The End" and thus I am getting also Apocalypse Now vibes. It is incredibly hypnotising song and at first, I did not think much of it. Now I could probably listen to it for 10 hours straight, I find it so trance-inducing. And I love the edginess that this guitar in the background adds. What a remarkable song
Thursday is the best mixtape.. i can't get with his albums now... i loved house of balloons..he blew my mind with this one.... i loved echoes of silence... but his stuff now... i cant besides a few songs... i miss the old weekend
It's time for you to move on. We can't keep having a drug induced and depressed Abel anymore, it was his choice to get the mainstream money. It sure as hell isn't healthy for Abel to be drug induced and depressed anymore.
This song means a lot to me. Because the first girl i fell in love with was on a saturday (on the weekend) and on thursdays that would be the day we made love every week for a year. Thursday was our day to be close to each other.
I love her, today Cause it's wednesday, I won't be late Now I need to know if you're feeling when I'm free Not on monday, tuesday, wednesday, friday, saturday Sunday but on thursday thursday Not on monday, tuesday, wednesday, friday, saturday Sunday but on thursday, make sure you are thirsty Ohhhh on thursday, baby get ready ohhh on thursday Woaahoooh hold it ohh on thursday, just wait on thursday, Baby only thursday Can I try? can I try? I've been here for too long Baby don't cry When are you calling again? But it's not thursday, baby why you calling? Not on monday, tuesday, wednesday, friday, saturday Sunday but on thursday thursday Not on monday, tuesday, wednesday, friday, saturday Sunday but on thursday, make sure you are thirsty Ohhhh on thursday, baby get ready ohhh on thursday Woaahoooh hold it ohh on thursday, just wait on thursday, Baby only thursday Thursday, thursday, thursday, thursday
xo, one of the most underrated songs for me, also one of the first times i listened to this song and trilogy at 15 and since then i've been a fan, so nostalgic... hits different everytime.
U just changed the taste of my music..It can,t be described in words. So many good songs from a single man,, U r living legend,Abel..Love ur each and every songs
I started listening to The Weeknd in 2016 because of Starboy. In 2019 i was feeling a bit down and i heard a lot about old weeknd songs and how good they were, so i went the car and started listening to trilogy, and bro what a masterpiece I can’t express how i felt that night It was a cold night with The Weeknd voice. I wish i knew him long ago like his old fans. XOTWOD🖤
Only just come across this track, can’t believe I missed it all this time. Listening to this (or The Zone) in bed with headphones on is intoxicating. Can’t beat his darker music, miss this. Of his recent stuff Call out my name and Escape from LA
