Ok I still ha e to finish the video and I'm crying about what are you saying about the 14th Doctor and David!😭😭😭For me, seeing both his Doctor and Donna happy and together really really healed something in me! I started watching Doctor Who when I was like 17 years old, starting from the Classical series. Then I went on with Modern Who and fell in love more with the show thanks to the 10th Doctor and David. I used the show to learn English (now I speak with a British accent when I speak English😅). So for me this show is really important and I releated with Donna everytime she felt useless or not appreciated.💙 ok time to finish the video, sorry for the long comment!

i LOVE the section on good, you really nailed what really worked about that play for me and why it was so harrowing to watch. halder was never really a particularly "good" person to begin with, you could see how self-absorbed and how lacking in self-awareness he was from the start. every scene between halder and maurice was played to perfection but god it was so sickening to see it all unfold. i think maybe a common thing that david brings to his roles is humanity (it's why rtd cast him as casanova and later the doctor). but it works in the opposite direction with halder - he is a terrible person, but he's not cartoonishly evil, all his terrible qualities are so ordinary and banal and capable of being found in our everyday lives. also 10/10 on the nativity 2 review lmfao. cinematic masterpiece of all time

Casanova and Peter Carlisle are so sweet and vulnerable and down bad that it's easier to like them despite the immoral things they do. Rex has hurtful things happen to him, but you never feel like he's letting himself be vulnerable. It's like every conversation he has is a logical trap to convince people to agree with him, and it's almost easier to see why the people in his life are frustrated with him. I think the idea of a lawyer figuring out how to be genuine with people instead of manipulating them logically is a fascinating concept, but they were trying to sell the coolness of him in a way that just didn't work. He doesn't feel like the underdog, he seems like a jerk who people are rightfully trying to avoid. If we're supposed to root for him to get the girl back, we shouldn't agree with why she left him. 16:10 Ahhh yes the inevitable Phileas Fogg in episode 4 mention. It's honestly kind of hilarious that you mentioned Phileas as many times as you did in this video, given that you're not technically reviewing AtWi80D. 16:27 YES OUR GROWING BRANCH GETS A MENTION! But kudos to the writing, directing, and David, of course, for bringing out these incredibly important themes. 31:32 I feel like this speaks to a point you brought up in the original Weird and Wonderful, that David is a leading man with the soul of a character actor. The reason his heroes/sympathetic main characters are so compelling is because he plays them with the fascinating choices that actors might make more with villains. Even the super normal, average protagonists he plays have a kind of complexity or strangeness that is magnetic. 31:52 I wonder where Brendan Block would fit on this scale. He's super charming, right? 32:52 I'm still annoyed at you for getting me into Will Wood. Like it's not like I needed more special interests to be rambling about! I absolutely loved this! I share a lot of the thoughts on the projects I’ve seen, and I’m sure I’ll share the thoughts when I get to the DW specials (I’ve gotten pretty much all the spoilers mentioning on tumblr so 14’s part of the video wasn’t anything surprise ruining). I just wanted to say thank you for making the initial essay and this extension. The videos have introduced me to a brilliant actor I have come to adore and many TV shows I may not have discovered otherwise, like ATWI80D and Hamlet (I am definitely going to be more invested in the Shakespeare unit in high school). Now I have even more projects to check out (Except Maurice, if the David Tennant expert is calling it their least favorite performance of his then it’s definitely not worth my time) and a massive amount of animatics turning about in my brain (if someone made an animatic of Ends of the Earth by Lord Huron with Phileas Fogg, what would you think?)!

this has nothing to do with David tennant, but if you do make a Christmas special along with Navity 2: Danger in the manger, would you be open to watching Tokyo godfathers? It’s free on Amazon and while David isn’t in it, I feel like it’s a beautiful very underrated, animated tragicomedy made by the late great satoshi kon. I need more people to watch this movie. Great video and looking forward to more David tennant or even full metal alchemist: brotherhood the musical.

Excellent post as always. So much to discuss that you've nailed brilliantly here. David as the dad standing up unadbashedly for what is obviously right with no hesitation, Nativity 2, Danger in the Manger is so complex with so many life dramas that is delivered in a brillant light hearted story that you want to watch it over and over again, and Good - oh my a dissertation could be written about his peformance there. I saw it in the theater a couple of years ago and even though I knew what was coming, when he put on the uniform I still gasped "nooooooooo" and when at the end she asks "We're still good aren't we?" Chilling....partly because it is so relevant now. I could go on and on, but allow me to say enjoy your vacation and congratulations on getting to meet the man who means so much to you.

I was so glad when I saw this update!! I think he is great in Criminal UK, he plays it enough of a human and enough of a monster. Also, your words about 14 almost moved me to tears, that hug was so real. The clip from Kafka the musical moved me in a way only theatre does and it was just a snippet! This man is an incredible actor. I recently asked you if he'd be a good Baker in Into the Woods and because I love overanalysis could you explain why? You have studied musical theatre after all Ps: Can we also mention how brilliant he is in changing his posture? And his voice?? The way he carries words I mean. Just look at Crowley and John Halder. This is not the same person!
