In the 1980's, Chrysler only produced smaller cars but needed something larger in order to compete with Lincoln and Cadillac. They created a mid-sized car called the E-Class and in their feeble and low-cost attempt, devised a limousine based on this platform. This car has been tastefully modified by a prior owner really felt that his changes improved the car. Now, taste and style is objective and this limo has some pretty crazy and special touches. Some folks that see this car laugh and enjoy it with me while others frankly, have some pretty colorful comments about it. And really, that's the point of this car.

You are right, Chrysler wasn't 100 percent involved in this... the special touches were done by American Sunroof Corporation, including the long passenger doors. Chrysler also farmed out some assembly of their K-body (LeBaron and Dodge 400) convertibles to ASC (1982-83).

I drove a 1963 Eureka landau for two years as my only car. They put the right side mirror outside the A pillar so you can only see about 1/4 of it. You quickly learn to either speed up to change lanes, or drop back one car length. After driving that car, I can maneuver anything now. I saw your video on your hearse. I have always wanted one that year that the new Eureka company made that had a removable roof over the driver, but they are very hard to find. One suggestion though. You can remove the commercial plates and register it as a passenger car and that will reduce your registration fees by a whole lot.

With all of the housewares on that thing we should name it The Menard Limo or the Home Depot Limo. You should keep it and tell your kids that's their ride to the high school prom when they're in HS. I got an idea for you, put full insurance on it and call Samuel Richardson. Tell him you have another car he can buy. ;-) It's definitely a unique ride. ~Pat

Uggg, that name Samuel Richardson! Funny thing though - I got an email a couple weeks ago from a person in Virginia who saw my Cadillac video and how that scum robbed me. She said the same happened to her, but worse, and she's on the list of victims too. I'm like seventh on the list and she's further down. She did say this turd is in jail in Washington State so he can't do this again, at least for a while. As for my kids, I already embarrass them now, but taking the limo to prom or even to pick them up would be hilarious! Just might make a great follow-up video!

Peter Griffin designs a limo. You are a very brave man, accepting to be seen driving around in it. Regarding the mileage figures, as I remember it, they were actually extrapolated from the EPA emissions testing loop which was done entirely indoors on rollers which eliminated rolling resistance and air resistance, there was no hard braking and only slow, gradual acceleration up to no more than 55mph which was the national speed limit at the time. The figures weren't realistic, but since the methodology was exactly the same for every single vehicle tested, they could at least be used to compare different car models.

The gentleman he purchased this car from is somewhat an eccentrique as myself. He also has other vehicles he has done this way. Unlike the series seventy-five Limousine and sedans. Chrysler made more of the limousines than the sedans. You can not get the 1982 Chrysler limousine or sedan they only made one of each that was maroon in colour. The public could get the 1983-1986 version. I have always loved these Chrysler limousines and sedans. Nice find Chris!!! I wonder whom bought it?

About 2002 I needed a 7-seater for many purposes including my daughters & their dance group friends. Scored a 1986 version of this in mint cond from the repo man for $3000 in dark blue with the 2.2 turbo (but no extra chrome things glued all over). Same blue interior. That turbo made it a highway dream. And the steeper the grade the harder it hauled. But in gridlock city it felt like a giraffe in an outhouse. It just wanted to burst out every time you tapped the throttle. When it snapped a timing belt after midnight, 2 of us pushed it a block and a half to a garage, they really were lightweight as stated in the video. Cheap repair, no engine damage. It was also my work vehicle: one time they dispatched me to the golf course with a new trainee who wanted to ride in the back. They waved us into the best exec parking spot! Dudes, we're just here to fix your computer issues. I crawled underneath once to see how they made these: they're a FWD New Yorker front half and a LeBaron Coupe back half with a special 30 inch partition & jumpseat module factory-welded between it all. Eventually I parked it because the tranny packed it in. After 2 years of being left outside in the Pacific Northwet, when I opened it up it was full of black mould. 2 minutes with those spores attacking my lungs was enough to realize a total interior replacement and probably new body wiring would also be needed now, with spare parts unavailable. Sending it off to the crusher was a sad, sad day. Thanks for making this video, it's like riding in style again.

I believe the two even shared the same engine and tranny in these years also. But no, this wasn't the base K Limo.. this was the Executive LE (Lionhead Edition) they were explicitly for rich families. If you weren't rich, nor a family, you couldn't have one. Hello Chris, The car is so ugly that it is already interesting again :-) Who screws something to his car .. apparently someone likes the eagle. well, after all, it is the state symbol of the United States (and incidentally, the eagle is also the state symbol in Germany). Nevertheless, I would not stick tons of eagles on the car. But as I said ... interesting. I am only surprised how one can sell such a car, that does not normally buy, or. I guess you were the only buyer around. I'm curious if you want to sell the car again how long it takes to find a buyer. Conclusion: pretty crazy car Greetings from Germany by Frank

Hahaha, yeah, Frank, I think I was the only buyer, for this limo. No other fools out there would even consider it, that is until I came along! Thanks for watching. -Chris

The limo is cool, although I can do without the art car embellishments.

You said that the only car that did not have front wheel drive was the Dodge Diplomat....Not true,,, The 1980-1983 Chrysler Imperial was rear wheel drive.

I don't think chrysler did the limo modification. Probably custom builder did the stretch, then somewhere down the chain of owners, a Vietnam vet who got a stapler injury in Nam aquired the car, hence all the stuck on trinkets. I know such a person. He's not all there upstairs.

It was weird when Chrysler built it...now it's just odd. You should send a photo or two to #QuirkyRides on Twitter. It deserves recognition.
