What I love about this video is the raw, powerful neurodivergent hyperfixation energy radiating from it, and I mean it in the most positive way possible as an autistic person. I love to hear people talk passionately on the obscure topics they're proficient in!
Those ears are giving Beep the Meep and I love it! As a child of the 80’s, I had Fluff and I loved her (probably more than Barbie, having been more of an animal kid than a doll kid!). Thanks for putting out this fun video!
Ohhhh I’ve been waiting for this one! Turn it up! I like the two cats with the plush bodies and plastic faces the most, and I particularly want honey. I bought marshmallow after your first video about her, but unfortunately her rooted hair is a terribly bad texture for me.
Honey ROCKS! If you like how calico critters or other similar toys feel, you’ll love her! I’m sorry about Marshmallow :( did you happen to get her used? Maybe soaking her in conditioner and combing her fur could make it feel softer?
Love the kitty cat attention and had been waiting for this video! I want to say I had the 1993 cat as a kid, but I loved Barbie’s dogs more because we owned cats and really wanted a puppy all my life 😅 Love all the kitties now though bc I didn’t have a lot growing up. As my daughter is at the beginning of her own Barbie age, I’m enjoying my childhood ones again as we play together. 🥰 And recently have been adding more Barbie dolls to my collection ❤ so win win! Thanks Brooke and would love to see part two or more just like this one!
if you were born in 1999, then i'm about three years older than you. i had barbie and marshmallow when i was a kid, and i only remembered when i saw the post you made on twitter. i definitely received it toward the end of that year, between my birthday and christmas, a span of about six weeks. i remember barbie's top the strongest---i LOVED the cartoon cat on the front. i thought it was so cute. but the cat i remember best is mama cat. i remember it so clearly now---she was a gift from a classmate at my eighth birthday party. the kitten surprise was SO special. and the bonus pink kitten?? she immediately became my favorite. she was so special to me. i loved her, specifically, very dearly. it's crazy to me that this set is now so sought after.
I remember actually having the mama cat Barbie playset as a kid! The cat certainly stuck with me because I remembered it when you started posting about collecting Barbie cats. I remember liking the shoes that the barbie came with, I also remember having somewhat some difficulty getting the kittens back into the mama cats after play.
Fantastic video! I consider myself to be a Barbie know-it-all, but somehow I didn’t know about the first pregnant cat! I designed the dolls, fashions, hairstyles, playset and pets for T2694 Kittycare Barbie, and T3355 Kittycare Nikki around 2010 when I worked at Mattel! Barbie’s cat Blissa was hollow, and she gave birth on the table, and the kitten would appear when you picked Blissa up. The kitten would slide down into a mini tub where you could clean them. The next time I worked with Blissa was when I designed 2011’s V6933 Art Teacher Barbie and V6923 Art Teacher Nikki . Blissa was again, basically a statue. You could place Blissa on the art table. The easel would pop down and you would dip Barbie’s paint brush in the water can. When you pushed the button on Barbie’s back, she would paint on the Easel and Blissa’s picture would appear on the blank white canvas! The concepts were wacky, but totally fun to work on!
Omg Brooke !! I’m so happy ❤ I’m a powerpuff girl collector and in your last video at the Skyland antique store I saw the powerpuff girls roller bag I took a trip to New Orleans for a survivor live show and was passing the area it was like 10mins from the exit! It’s so rare and perfect condition just needed cleaning I’m so happy with it! Thank you for posting it and other stuff that may not be doll related, I saw it and had to get it! I told the women I saw it on your video she said they’d been there 20 years!! I love it ❤❤❤ and love your videos keep it up :)
Not sure if it's a thing that became more prevalent in the 90s and 00s but i always was given the vibe that cats were more of a "girls" pet whereas dogs were for boys :/ so its definitely interesting that barbie has had more dogs to me!
'And in the Barbie World, you can take your cat Partying and Shopping!' - XCanadensis .... That's the part where I really did crack up. Of course in Barbie world Cats Party as hard as her. lololol. So cute, all these cats. Love that you love the cats! all the cats! Cats are the best! ... well that and I'm biased. lol.
Hi Morning, Great job on another fun video! Your ears are fantastic by the way, I knew you were a real cat! Your cat extra, was right on cue, they deserve a treat. OMG.Hollywood Hair Barbie, her hair is glorious!
Hahah Renaldo was sitting by the tripod almost the entire time… fact checking me? Who knows… he did choose a good time to make his debut :) Hollywood Hair Barbie was a gift and she finally got to turn up in a video :3
I had the 2003 mama and kittens when I was a kid! I would’ve been 6, and I remember the little bows vividly and the spots on the kittens! Def only 3 fit. Lol. Happy to be your personal testimony! Thanks for the burst of nostalgia for something I forgot I had! 🐱🐱🐱
I was always a cat person, so I LOVED Barbie dolls with cats. Wolfie and Serafina were the only named Barbie cats I have 🐱I also had an orange cat that I called Thomas O’Malley, but I don’t know if he was an official Barbie cat 😹
This was such a good video, your research was so thorough and I loved how you mixed scripted factual information in with your own thoughts and opinions so fluidly! It's also so cool that you were able to find so many of them to show us in person. I think Tag Along Tiffy was actually my favorite. She may not look super cat-like with her wheels, but that's such a cute and fun concept and I think I would have had a blast pulling Tiffy along with Barbie if I'd had her as a kid. I also like her fur and extra-fluffy tail! I'd definitely love more essay-style videos like this one once in a while when you find something obscure that the world needs to know about!
Teleprompter with a script and cues. A lot of it was scripted but a lot of it wasn’t. I’m glad it’s not obvious this time because I always feel soooo awkward with a script 😭
I love these kinds of video essays and it's so cool to see you trying out this style of video, can't wait to see more! I love the way you do videos because of the amount of cool information you share and the way you're basically a doll historian, so seeing that organized in a different way is cool. Love your channel regardless of where you branch out :) I had the Fresh Steps peeing cat playset when I was a kid, i adored it! The number of times i ran back and forth betwen the bathroom and my bedroom to refill the tiny little bottle for the cat, impossible to count. We had a ton of cats when i was a kid and when i was old enough i cleaned the cat boxes for my allowance, so you could say it was practice for me lmaaooo
The way I specifically wanted to watch this video to hear you talk about the Posh Pets Mama Cat- needless to say I am NOT disappointed omg finally someone else appreciates her 😭 Although I've always loved dolls I was never a barbie fan, I've got 3 new in my entire life, and one was this set and I loved the holy hell outta it!!! The stroller got all broke to pieces through the years but still to this day I have & adore my mama cat, she's dirty as can be and truthfully it's kinda gross but that's my baby🥺
Great video Brooke! Research and video essays take so long to make. I really personally like the movie sidekick pets, I'd say Wolfie! From my favorite Barbie movie. My favorite that you mentioned here is the un-named tuxedo cat! That's so weird that that cat is easier to find then Lily!
I loved this video. I'm a cat collector and some years ago I started to add cat related toys to my collection. Of course Barbie cats are included. I have some of those that you showed in the video, but still missing a lot!
I’ve still got Tiffy and Marshmallow. Needless to say Tiffy is my favorite, I was 3 years old when I got it and I still own it, even though I’ve lost its hat, magazine and food over the years. I still own the little black necklace though.
This video is so amazing and fun. I love your enthusiasm and energy in this one 😊I grew up in the 80's- early 90's but never had any real Barbie pets (except a horse) but I use the Kenner LPS as pets for my dolls 😁
I had Fluff as a kid! I don't remember how I got her, probably as a gift. I didn't like Barbie (or any human dolls) so I just played with her with my My Little Ponies, lol. I want to bring Celestra Queen of the Transforming Dolls to your attention because she's one of the most niche, 80s things I've ever seen and I love her dearly.
I have a few of the fluffy cats with the plastic faces. I never knew they were for Barbie. They were from my older sister. I liked the one with wheels as a kid.
Teresa's mid-2000's fashion crit me right in the face - pretty sure I wore that exact outfit as a tween XD This video was awesome! So well put-together and a lot of fun info. Plus your speaking cadence sounds very natural even though it's scripted! My favorite kitty in this video is Mitzi Meow cause she's just SO CUTE! But my favorite Barbie kitty is the gray one that came with the mid-90's vet Barbie. As a kid I wanted to work with animals sooo badly when I grew up. I had Pet Doctor Barbie with the electronic cat bed and the gray kitty ^_^
Thank you so much! I am really trying to get more natural when I’m reading off of something. It’s very out of the norm for me but I am glad to hear this one went well!! And omg a Mitzi fan!!
Another fantastic video, I (along with many others) have been EAGERLY awaiting this one! IAs much as I love your usual style videos, I also ove your more essay-style videos-- they're always so well written and well researched, and your passion is so tangible and infectious! I think Momma is also my favorite kitty, but I might just be biased because your reaction to the pregnancy gimmick in that thrifting video was just precious.
I just cannot believe I’d never seen that commercial before… it’s like a siren song. Such an incredible playset 😭 You’re never too old to give a good mama a home :3
I love Barbie cats! The only two I had growing up are the cat that comes with Pet Pals Courtney and a random white one that came with a 90s barbie fashion. I need honey!!!
My favorite Barbie growing up was the veterinarian from the 90s. She has a dog and a cat . I love that cat 🐈. Maybe that's why I got a black and white cat.
YES!!! I've been looking forward to the essay about these wonderful beasts 💙 And also the video essay-esque format is super fun, thank you so much for the informational barbie cat essay. My boyfriend had the mama cat and babies as a kid and he loved them & the barbie that comes with them as well
I had and still have Fluff. I got her as a kid when she came out. I am old. Ha ha. I loved her. I had and still have the dog Prince too around the same time.
Lol- I totally had the kitty fun set and marshmallow, she was white and I didn’t make her “wet” much. I recently acquired fluff and her stuff. Oh and now I know where that little tiny kitten is from!
Those are really cute! :) i love them! I like barbie myself am more of dog person so I remember having very found memories of Barbie stylin pup set! loved washing that dogs fur ahah
I must have had a Barbie Pet Show fashion as a kid, because I had the white soft plush cat. So that's my Barbie cat standard - must be soft and not hard plastic.
I love this video so much, I've never seen a lot of these before but I've always loved the pets that came with dolls (I had tanner as a kid and wanted the cat set so bad)
@@xCanadensis He did for sure but something about the litterbox gimmic was so interesting as a kid, though I had real cats scooping those litterboxes didnt seem as fun 😂
Interesting video.I preferred the plastic ones myself. The ones with hair look like sheep other than the pregnant who just looked like she was wearing a big feathered boa. So Fluff may have been my favourite. I’ve been watching your videos for awhile which is kinda strange since I don’t collect dolls. In fact, I barely played with dolls as a kid although I had a few Barbies and Ken and a baby. I mostly spent my time killing them. But I did enjoy the cabbage patch kids when they first came out(aging myself) and My Little Pony’s since my friends and I all had horses ourselves. But I don’t collect now although I do like the Disney collector Dolls. I can’t afford to be a collector though since I have 22 rescued animals. It costs a ton to keep everyone fed, medicated, enriched daily and to pay for regular and emergency vet care. I definitely don’t have a lot of loose pocket chance for buying things for myself but I also never get lonely with all my pets to keep me company.
23:55 OMG I WOULD LOSE MY MIND IF I HAD THIS AS A KID (in a good way XD), pregnant Migde was already my favorite doll from Barbie, and I had a Dalmatian that came with three puppies and I was so in love with them, idk why, giving birth was so fun for me as a kid (weird phrase 😂)
I love cats and Barbie, I can't choose my favorite I love all of them, I have 4 cats, one of mine (my pfp) looks like all the Barbie cats and my other cat looks like the last one, Barbie is def a both person, could you pls do a video of ALL cats in the Barbie universe?
Wish barbie would do more cats for their dolls again; dogs birds and bunnies are cute and all but I’m more of a cat person and would rather my dolls have cats too The one barbie doll I found with a cat is the cutie reveal doll that dresses up as an orange tabby cat 🐈 and she come with her own little pet tabby cat (not as well detailed as the cute cats in this video though but cute)
Maybe for the thumbnail you should put pictures of other barbie 'I can be' dolls and present in the middle of the thumbnail the title of barbie 'I can be a cat lady' because not everyone might recognize the 'I can be' doll line's title.
I’m really struggling and the video is really failing so I’m messing around with the title and thumbnail, I’m sorry it’s confusing. I think I just have to write this off as another failed video essay and give up on this project because this really stings 😭
@@xCanadensis I think your video essays are really great, I loved the previous one about all the different my little pony inspired toys and you hyped up this topic for so long and I was really excited to watch it and really enjoyed it don't
@@xCanadensis -don't feel stung, your video is really entertaining and interesting and i think the title idea was really good too, maybe look at popular video essay thumbnails to get guidance on what will help you accentuate and 'market' the video because the contents are already great and even if the videos haven't got as many views yet the information you have gathered is still really impressive, i really like them and you should do your other ideas!!
@@xCanadensis I really enjoy your videos (I don’t often leave comments on youtube so I’m using a secondary account) but leaving this here in hopes of helping: I think unfortunately the mic was too close so the audio spiked. Clip on mics are more likely to catch the sound of clothes or hair rustling and sound harsh when bumped around. Using an audio mixer might help with turning the sensitivity/hotness of the mic down while recording so the audio spikes less. What I learned in video production classes is that it’s easier to correct quiet audio than loud audio because once the audio has spiked/gotten distorted it’s harder to fix. That being said I loved this essay! I truly appreciate all the time and research you put into making your videos and sharing all this wonderful knowledge with us! I also really appreciate that you make sure to properly credit your sources. You are a true gift to the doll and toy collecting community
