This is a short animated video on how easy it was to duplicate video games during the era of CD's and Floppy Discs in the 1990s, using The Simpsons for reference. The main topic was how floppy disc video game piracy worked back in the early 90s. MS-DOS Game companies used ‘Anti-Piracy Screens’ aka ‘Copy Protection Screens’ to prevent users from pirating their product. Things were done differently back then due to the available technology of the time; This includes the fact that home printers were not yet a common household item.

Fun little thing to run into in my recommendations. Nice concise way to summarize the subject! As a cybersecurity measure, this, at the time, was a very sensible method, as it relied on the security metric of “something you had”. Often this is a password, but can take other forms, like the manual trick. It only works when it’s not replicable, and as you described, that was very much the case at the time!

Informative video. Interesting that the anti piracy measures were not hardware or software related. Clever lengths that they went to! Great video!

I save all my Pop Cans for months in Detroit; 10 cents recycle refund in Michigan... I finally scrapped up enough to get a 2nd 3.5" drive, Used, from a Flea Market, Popped that into my 80286 & "Backed-Up" EVERYTHING lol
