@@tresrules16543 Basically in the sentai they explain that Queen Banshera was about to be reborn do the planets making a Cross that would bring ruin to the universe so a scientist created the ranger suits and make his 5 sons (that all work as first responders) fight the Demons of disaster and yes he leave them alone with their mother Who later died do to a plane accident
Is Sentai variation is very interesting because it's basically family versus family. The rangers being siblings and the villains being an entire family of Royal demons each one that's a master of their own element/ natural disaster
@@alvarodebarrio7718 Well, I knew that was the plot for GoGoV. I just found it odd that a rescue based sentai had to fight demons. Like where is the correlation between those in real life, and how do they even connect like that?
@@tresrules16543 I imagine it's due to how common youkai are in their legends, there is one for everything, so when they need to make a superpowered antagonist they go "stick a demon in there" Remember how the Soul Eater's mangaka decided to make a prequel to his demon/monster hunting story and went "It'll be about firefighters, I'm a fucking genius" And it was actually good-fuck! Them japanese people are onto something with the demon fighting (blank) organization
Sasha Williams was my babysitter when I was 6, and I made her watch the Green with Evil VHS tapes on repeat. When she got the role in LSR I lost my mind 😅
One thing I really appreciated about LightSpeed Rescue, an ACTUAL Adult cast! Not a bunch of Teenagers! Thanks to this they had the opportunity to explore more types of scenes.
@@BlueBlazeKing true, but I still like seeing a more proper mature cast with folks like Police Officers(Timeforce/SPD) or Jobs that are unmistakably NOT Teens. Heck, They could bite the bullet and ACTUALLY do the Animal Rangers from Dobutsu Sentai Zyuohger. They did well enough with Anubis Cruger from SPD so I think it shouldn't be too tough.
I agree. Idk why Conner kept referring to them as teens, but the team being adults-mostly with professional careers-was a good change of pace. It’s probably the most plausible team of Rangers to aspire to be, like kids actually became doctors and firefighters because of this show.
@@bgcrp2005 Nah, I never saw Lost Galaxy as teens. They were all holding down legit jobs on Terra Venture, some of them pretty high ranking. You don't get that as teenagers.
Even to this day, it’s so cool how this season made a fully unique ranger without sentai footage, and the aqua base’s destruction was the best base destruction bar none
16:26 Fun Fact, this "Random Guy" has had probably the most success of anyone on this season... That David Leitch, movie fans might recognize the name, as he's famous director. His directorial debut was freaking John Wick, and has also directed Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and Fast and Furious Spin off Hobbs & Shaw. Wild.
The actor who played Joel actually did pretty good for himself, too. He ended up playing leads in a few major, emmy winning film projects about 5 years after this. I want to say, he played James Brown in a docu-film, but I'm not 100% sure if that's the one I was thinking of.
Glad you did a retrospective on this season. Lightspeed Rescue is a season that grew on me the more I watched it. I believe this season is pretty underrated and has one of the best ranger casts. Carter is a brilliant red ranger and Joel is absolutely delightful.
I agree , I think it's a season people don't have problems with but kind of sleep on it , even though it's got good rangers , good villans and good action
I love how even though Conner & Linkara handle their retrospectives more-or-less differently, that they BOTH have the same reactions and opinions regarding the Lost Galaxy/Lightspeed team-up (how does LS know Leo?, what do you mean “There’s no such thing as monsters”?, EVERYTHING about the little girl, etc.).
I would think that Lightspeed knows about Leo and the Galaxy rangers because of Andros setting up the first instance (even if not mentioned in the series) of a ranger database..
I don't know if anyone else had noticed, but there was this sense of comradery between Diabolico, Loki, and Vypra. Regardless of whoever had gotten destoryed, the other 2 were likely to bring the other back. Once Olympius came into the picture after Diabolico was wasted, no one is getting along despite the attempts. Any attempts are slapped away by each other: Vypra treating him like a kid, Olympius blaming them both over Bansheera's imprisoned body when they had nothing to do with it, it was a constant trade of hostility and belittling from both sides, and bringing Diabolico back into the picture did not help matters, at least on Olympius's side. It was basically 3 thugs versus a spoiled brat. After exiling Olympius to the shadow world and witnessing Bansheera's reaction, it's likely he grew weary of his standing (likely comparing Oympius's situation to that of Ryan's). If she's willing to disown her own son over her palace, then it means everyone's expendable in her eyes. There was more to Vypra's story behind the scenes. Jennifer, her real name, had to leave the set earlier than expected and eventually retire from her role as Vypra due to severe skin outbreaks with the makeup they were using on her. It's not all bad as she would eventually use that to develop her own line of special skincare products and cosmetics. She seems to be doing well for herself.
It's good that they translated the dynamic well despite not taking advantage of the fact they are siblings in the original. In source, (the equivalent versions of) Diabolico is a very bossy older brother on behalf of their mother and he has a chip on his shoulder because in spite of being the first born, he wasn't going to be next in line. Loki and Vypra completely disregard Olympus because he's a baby. And Olympus hates the fact that he's looked down upon, and thinks Loki is an absolute dumbass and Vypra is incompetent. You can really see it coming from their family dynamics and you don't have to think twice to know why it makes sense. So all things considered, I think they did a good job with conveying that in spite of removing their family bonds that their dynamic is still kinda like that for different reasons like arrogance and jealousy.
I generally agree with you about regular vehicles being boring Zords, but here it makes sense that they would be rescue vehicles. Way better than Turbo being like "B-T-Dubs uhh you have rescue vehicles now bye!"
I like that the Rangers seem like adults with established careers, and their problems seem more mature than earlier seasons. It tries so many new things for being a season that is otherwise very straightforward on the premise.
@@Irrelevant66 I think that’s because by the time the series reached Lost Galaxy, Linkara aged out of the target demographic. I think he’s specifically stated that before. So he’s not reviewing it as someone who loved these seasons as a kid like Conner is doing.
@@MikeP828He has indeed stated that on multiple occassions. Plus, Linkara's also just much more dry about it because he's been doing it so long and so regularly. You can tell he still cares, especially with the seasons he liked, but it's just as much business as pleasure for him, if not more.
Chads actor would eventually go on to be a stunt teacher for the cast of Power rangers beast Morphers ,essentially teaching the actors Stunts and choreography before they were properly casted
I liked how the villains in the Sentai version all had a separate deck of monster cards each one of different element that represents them. Diabolical head storm based monsters that used strategic planning Viper head water-based monsters focused on espionage, thieving, gorilla warfare. All the earth-based demons were just blunt power Prince Olympians have firebase monsters that also focused on psychological harm
50:40 Don't worry, the Battlizers will look significantly better after this season. My personal favorites out of the bunch being: -Red Battle Warrior (Time Force) -Tri-Battlized Armor (Ninja Storm) -Red Sentinel Ranger (Operation Overdrive)
Lightspeed Rescue is my favorite season of Power Rangers. I was in high school when it came out and I was going through some tough personal stuff. Lightspeed was an anchor that kept me focused, and Carter was an inspirational force I absolutely needed. It may not be the best season, but it will always be super meaningful to me.
So about Trakeena's revenge, it was originally released as a video tie-in for McDonald's, explaining why the episode focused more on the little girl than, say, the Lightspeed and Galaxy teams teaming up.
@@jpcsdutra Also the mermaid Marina was played by Psycho Yellow's voice-actress. I'm surprised he didn't notice, especially since he talked about how beautiful she was in the "In Space" video.
Thank you so much for making this! Lightspeed rescue is my all time favorite season. I just love the whole military style power rangers concept it’s so fresh. The demons are actually threatening. The titanium ranger is so badass. Every member of the team is memorable especially Joel and his developing romance with Ms. Fairweather.
I think what I like most about this Power Rangers team is that they aren't just spandex-covered superheroes. Here, they do actual first responder stuff. And the fact that early on, they show that they don't care if they have powers or not, is another plus. I mean could you imagine a Power Rangers team that lost access to their powers and decided "Yeah, we don't really want to help out anymore. We're going back to our other lives." Man, good thing that doesn't happen in any future seasons. Also, I'm SO excited for Time Force. That was the first Power Rangers season _I_ watched myself when I was 6 years old.
Just found your channel this morning and have been watching all these, imagine my pleasant surprised face when I saw this just now exactly 1 minute ago from this post. Keep up the great work!
Hey man, I just wanted to let you know that your videos help a lot. This week has been the worst. I’m not gonna get into all of it but all of your videos really helped me get through this rough time in my life. I just wanted to say thank you for everything 🙏🏽
I love Lightspeed rescue a lot. Some of it was my nostalgia because it was my first power rangers shows and it means a lot to me. I’m now more open up to why people may not like the season. But when it is good it is really good
Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue is a shining example of why for me I prefer the Power Rangers as seasoned adults rather than being young, peppy teenagers
I just watched this one about a year ago. This was the one that I was most excited to watch, as I love when heroes prioritize civilian rescue over fighting the bad guys.
Another silly detail about the crossover - for absolutely no good reason, they use Gingaman footage for the Lost Galaxy team morph instead of the existing morph sequence they had, which is noticeable by the mismatched skin tones.
In the episode Trakeena's Revenge when Carter and Leo send the little girl in to pull the fire alarm it was actually the correct call (not to bring up suspect calls from later in the episode mind you) if Carter had gone into the building as "Lightspeed Rescue" using that authority he would have alerted the monsters in the building about trouble and most likely they would have taken a much more defensive stance even taking civilians as hostages.. If he had gone in as a fire fighter it would most likely have been done as a routine test of the fire alert systems, but he would have again been known as lightspeed meaning that they would have alerted the monsters in the building.. The third option sending Leo in would have been just as bad if someone who knew Leo was looking in a security camera at the time.. This is why when the call was made to send the little girl into the building to pull the alarm it was actually the correct call to make as she would not attract any high levels of attention from the monsters until after the alarm is pulled and even then the civilians in the building are already evacuating meaning there is much less chance for any monsters that remain to take hostages.. I know this is very much me just over thinking things but it makes the most sense.. The other small point I would like to make about this episode is HOW Carter knows who Leo and the Galaxy rangers are.. Consider that Andros from the Space Rangers teamed up with the Galaxy rangers for taking down the Psycho rangers, considering they worked together and that Andros is shown to be working towards checking on various threats (such as in a few more seasons when he calls to action the 10 red rangers for Forever Red) it would stand to reason that Andros began creating the first edition of the "Ranger Database" which later on in Dino Thunder would be further expanded upon by Tommy Oliver, then used as the basis for the future Ranger Databases as seen in Super Megaforce, and onward. Sorry about the length of this post and any terrible editing that I might have had, but I hope that this helps explain a few of the various seeming errors in the episode.. Thank you for your time and please keep up the awesome work on these videos..
Lightspeed Rescue isn't in my Top 10 seasons or anything like that, but it did have some noteworthy moments. One that sticks out to me was the good Captain's car accident that caused him and his kids to be hanging on the side of a cliff before Diabolical (probably spelt that wrong) saved Ryan. It was a little thing, but as a kid it taught me the importance of paying attention while driving because ONE second of looking in the wrong direction could be deadly. Then, Carter's childhood hero turning out to be Captain Mitchell was amazing storytelling! Ryan was awesome, BUT sadly he had so little screen time as a ranger due to being the 1st U.S. original ranger in the Power Ranger series. Joel was a lovable a**hole who slowly grew as the series went on. Darn shame his dynamic and eventual MARRIAGE to Dr. Fairweather isn't talked about as much as I think it should. It's a big deal that it's an interracial couple, but even more important was seeing Joel humbling himself and getting to know Angela rather than the constant Brock from Pokemon antics he'd pull off for MOST of the season.
I have to say, i love this. I look forward to these and i enjoy that you go over every episode. You take time to explore themes and look into the characters. I can't wait for Time Force!
carter is the realest red ranger. even without morphin, he is a hero and a good example. LightSpeed rescue is one of my favorites seasons, and definitively my favorite opening. So nice to see your reviews going on!
@AndreNitroX I've seen fragments of the other Incarnations of Power Rangers before Lightspeed Rescue but watching Lightspeed Rescue was my first Full experience of watching Power Rangers
41:02 Government affiliations? Keep in mind, the Terra Venture expedition and the Lightspeed Aquabase were both funded by governments. It's a very safe assumption that they were still in close connection with each other, which would include information on the Rangers
Just found your videos, as someone who loves Power Rangers and game soundtracks this scratches a good itch for me! Keep up the good work and I'm definitely looking forward to Time Force
I look forward to these every month man, I didn’t even watch light speed rescue but I was definitely anticipating your video ! Hope you do all the seasons!!
@ 2:12 You called them teens, If anything they're adults in their mid-20s, At least that's how I've always interpreted it Like it's often said this is the first team fully comprised of adults that all have some sort of career prior to becoming a Power Ranger. I mean it's specifically why they are chosen because they have already been trained to do these things for the most part.
@@krasherom the only weird thing is that Ryan is older than Dana, and he was taken hostage until his 20th birthday, at best Dana is 19 and everyone else is 20+
Lightspeed was my ranger season, i caught a few episodes and reruns of the seasons before but Lightspeed was the one i was old enough to remember watching as it was airing originally.
This is something that has been bugging me in the video. They are not teenagers! They are all adults! I am pretty sure a teenager can't be a firefighter or a nurse or a marine stunt performer!
Wanna know what I like about this, it was the Power Rangers with tech fighting the supernatural and the start of few ranger teams that fought against them, like Mystic Force, Jungle Fury and Samurai.
I would of been fine with the overdrive rangers giving up if the story did anything with it having the past rangers give them the courage to get backup when things are tough but they didn't do anything with that aspect and as a result they come off as brats that give up easily when things get too hard also the sentinel knight raises so many questions if he can revive two rangers that lost there powers permanently and summon a ranger from the future all in his supposed weakened state then it makes you wonder why did they ever need the overdrive team?
@@nyhtfall1969 everything you said about the Sentinel Knight are exactly the problems I had with him as well. Like you’re clearly powerful enough even in your spirit form to deal with Moltor and Flurious by yourself.
Lost Galaxy and Lightspeed Racue were the seasons I grew up with, and are to this day still my favorite. I appreciated how these seasons handled more mature themes while still feeling like Power Rangers. Sure, it still has cheesy elements, but its PR for crying out loud. The choreography was top notch, the teams actually felt like people doing their jobs, and the Magna Defender as well as Carter are the GOAT
Lightspeed Rescue fun fact: Sasha Williams, who played Kelsey, the Yellow Ranger, is married to Eli Craig, son of legendary two-time Oscar winner Sally Field. Eli directed the 2010 cult horror comedy Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, in which Sasha had a bit part as a reporter (another Power Rangers alumni, Brandon Jay McLaren, who was Jack, the Red Ranger on S.P.D. (future subject, BTW), also had a small role in this film)
Brandon is one of the few actors from the franchise that didn’t get typecast as a power ranger character. I guess he didn’t want to end up like JDF since most of his identity as an actor is him being known as Tommy
I love your videos! As a young working professional I have no time to watch power rangers back and relive my childhood. But your videos hit that spot soooooo hard. Thank you
I started my Power Rangers rewatch at 18, took me 10 years to get fully caught up because I needed a break due to Samurai being so bad. But when I got to Lightspeed I was loving it. Like for once they felt like something that could actually happen, not the fighting demons part but the team organized by the government, one of the few entities with the ability to afford the tech.
Lightspeed Rescue was 1 of the 2 seasons that really got me into Power Rangers. The other being Wild Force. I still find myself humming the Lightspeed Rescue theme every now & then. I had missed the older seasons, mainly because of my family not wanting me to watch it at the time. By the time Disney picked up the rights for the series, I was able to watch it as much a kid could with regular episodes of 2-3 different seasons every week. Ryan is easily 1 of my all time favorite 6th rangers, just about sitting next to the Tommy. While Ryan had limited scenes overall due to being an American original ranger, a lot of the scenes that you see him in, especially early on, really show the kind of guy he is. While he did start out raised evil, he did show that he had the true heart of a ranger deep down. While the season wasn't perfect, it is a great example of a "jumping in point" in the series.
Ah yes Lightspeed rescue the first power ranger show I ever watched and remembered I have more nostalgia for time force but Lightspeed was the first one that made me realize that heroes weren't just people in power suits and cool weapons but people willing to go out of there way to help those in need
I'm kinda disappointed that you didn't mention how the first monster the rangers fought was Psycho Red's monster form reused as a new character (with slightly darker colors for the face). Or how the mermaid Marina was played by Psycho Yellow's voice-actress (i mean you talked about how beautiful she was in the "In Space" video).
Carter Grayson is THE *G O A T !* Lightspeed was my intro to Power Rangers as a kid, and Carter is my IDEAL whenever I think about what a Red Ranger is.
Man yall don’t know how much I fw Lighspeed rescue. This and lost galaxy are easily in my top 3. Idk what it is but seeing them team up was the greatest thing I ever witnessed as a kid
Lightspeed Rescue will always be my favorite season, everything is just so good. Minus a few minor negatives here and there. Especially the trains that carry the zords combining into an even bigger, more powerful megazord. That just blew my mind as a kid.
My favorite scene from this series is when Carter wields the V-Lancer in one hand and the Rescue Bird in the other hand and fires them at point blank range to destroy a demon. Absolutely solidified him as my favorite red ranger
OK, fun fact, the emblem on the Rangers suits are actually based off siren alarms not umbrellas. Which is why you see the alarm going off at the beginning of the opening. Also in the Japanese counterpart, their morphed suits are actually canonically referred to as hazmat suits.
