As a English kid who first started watching cricket in the 90s I used to be terrified of the WIndies.Walsh/Ambrose peppering out batsman and Lara/Chanderpaul seemingly able to bat for hours. It's been sad to watch the slow decline, cricket needs to do more to help nations outside of the top 3 I think. The stronger and more competitive world cricket is, the more eyes will be on the product long term
its amazing in the west indies the windies got hammered by the media from 95-00 cause they wern't winning every test series anymore but were still strong at home..then ambrose walsh retired and they started losing at home but still had peoples respect
Lostralian standard downfall way much.. Nearly beaten by afghanistan in last World Cup t20🫡🫡🫡 lostralians are out of the context.. Racism sledgism cheating habit is their main reason for downfall.. West Indies will rise but cheatralia lostralia will never. Their standard will go far below down nepal uae oman netherland Scotland Ireland USA Canada. The day is near when lostralians will find difficult to defeat Canada kenya too already Bangladesh did bashed lostralians lol.. 62 all out (4-1 loss.) Lostralians
The thing is, the rot set in years ago. I remember Windies teams in the late 90s being crap fielders and batting like millionaires. But they had enough truly elite, once in a generation, players to get away with it. Gayle, Lara, Chanderpaul, Hooper, Ambrose, Walsh to name a few. But once they went and the grassroots investment got cut and more players started playing franchise cricket to supplement the lousy incomes from Windies cricket.... it's all downhill.
Wow, u have explained it perfectly. So sad to see this present WC having half of the Asian sides and no representation from the Americas or Caribbean. Hope some European countries like Ned, Ire, and some African countries take up cricket (esp T20) so that it would genuinely feel like a WC.
Giving credit where credit is due. This Dutch team has been absolutely phenomenal in the last few years or so. Hardly anyone watched the Pakistan vs Netherlands 3 match ODI series prior to the Asia Cup in 2022. But those few who did, know that it was tight. The Netherlands were barely stopped from beating us in 2 of the 3 games, only reason they lost was the death bowling of Wasim Jr, Naseem and Haris. They had an excellent T20WC, qualifying in a difficult group in the 1st round, and then somehow managing to beat SA. You can imagine the look of shock on my face, as I got up at 7 am,thinking this was the day Pakistans WC campaign came to a close and the absolute delight I felt as the words "SA need 40 runs from 24 balls to win" flashed across the TV as I turned it on. They will be the underdogs in the CWC for sure, one upset is guaranteed at least.
its sad to see the situation but as a fellow west indian the major problem is the investment , this caused a lot of players to sign for overseas franchises and refuse to play for the team
Nice video, also tip: Don't use cricket Australia clips - they give you copyright strikes, trust me I've been there it sucks Personally i think the west indies will make a comeback but not anytime soon in an interview darren sammy said that u gotta reach rock bottom to come back up which is the sad truth
This video has been informative and helpful. South African is also in the path as the West Indies, and as a South African, I wish Cricket South Africa pays more attention to cricket affairs rather than politics.
@John-pl8fe Well, we as fans can't allow it to stop them now, then in 10 years' time, we might not qualify for the 2031 World Cup if we don't win in 2027. We are not even guaranteed to qualify for the champions trophy in 2025 because we are ranked 6th at the moment
Luckily for South Africa they seem to have atleast 1 more generation left with the players as Markram, Rabada,Klaasen and co. Honestly thought retirement of de Viliiers, du Plessis, Amla era would be South Africa's end too but they did well to gather new talents.
@@themessiah126 Exactly let's stop this. CSA is the reason SA will never win a trophy because they are sending a B team to NZ next year for important Tests because all the top players are contracted to the circus SA20.
I'm an Aussie but I've always been a huge fan of the Windies, it's like having a second team u support like in footy, i support Parra but the Chooks are my second team so at least i have one team to go for in the finals. Windie's are my second team, countries & the people from around the Carribbean have that similar laid back vibe that we Aussie's have in our day to day lives. It's been devo watching the Windie's slide to the bottom of world cricket. U don't wanna see any country in the cricketing world fall to where they're now. If it wasn't for the Windie's working side by side with Australia then ODI cricket wouldn't have happened or wouldn't have been a success as a format. To watch the Windie's not even making it to the ODI World Cup was just shocking, U can't have a world cup without the Windie's being there. I thought as a test nation, so being top tiered would've meant straight into the world cup, but the same happened with South Africa that was struggling to make it to the world cup coz like the Windie's, South Africa not being there just wouldn't be right, it's just not cricket as the famous quote goes
As someone from the WI it's a crying shame that we've ended up in this position. But it's something that was always on the cards for the last 15-20 years
Being a cricket enthusiast, I have been through a lot of cricket commentaries / analysis / observations videos, but the effort and research you put in your videos is simply outstanding. A pleasure to watch for any cricket fan around the world. Continue with these erudite videos. Love and appreciation from India.
Cool vid dude. Well edited and good analysis. I think the main problem with not just the West Indies team but with cricket as a whole is the focus on franchise/ T20 cricket. Why care about International O.d.i. & test matches when the IPL is not only short form cricket but more lucrative? We have seen T20 leagues spring up everywhere and it's all about big hitting and less about tactical cricket. To me it's like watch the demolition derby, big crashes are cool but after seeing so many of them you become bored and it's no longer as exciting.
If they continue to play like this and if there were rules which they are not that you get demoted then West Indies would be the first team to be devoted to associate level.
In worldcup qualifying matches, they got depth in their batting as well till no.11. But they still couldn't quite make it through for various reasons such as their fielding efforts which were poor right throughout the tournament and also their application when it came to batting, felt they could've shown some respect to the opposition bowlers by constantly rotating the strike instead of trying to smack the ball out of the park all the time. Great analysis and looking forward to watch many more on this channel.
Hi you present really well and good, interesting selections. When I got your channel's prompt on YT during the WC, I saw the 1999 edition of Australian win you posted after they were defeated in the initial matches. And once Maxwell hit that 200, combined with your video affecting my psyche, I feared India might lose to Aus and that exactly happened. Still, that apart, you have an excellent content. Cheers.
Short term I see pain, medium term they need someone like Justin Langer to coach them, inspire players to work for their spots and built a team of people who are hungry for success. He essentially built players like Andrew Tye, taking them off the club cricket scrap heap and turning them into world beaters. In the long term investment in the pathways to professional cricket, community cricket.
The countries of the West Indies need more wealth and investment from the ICC/international community so they can lure their good players into playing for their nation and not franchise cricket.
The way international cricket is going, it will be a sport of 3 teams in 10 years which is interesting for no one. We need South Africa, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Pakistan to be stronger teams, as well as the continued investment into associate nations.
Dearly hoping Sammy can do great as a coach, sure the WCQ was under his tenure but it had just started. He needs time to make his own squad and seem to be doing something about it....mold his own team that can do better at the Home T20 WC next year and 2027 WC in Africa.
It's hard to say. The friction between franchise cricket and the national team set up looks to be increasing, especially with the SAT20 tournament up and running. But it seems that grassroots development is still producing quality players - Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, Marco (and Duan) Jansen and Gerald Coetzee to name a few. The question is whether these players will choose the franchise path over representing the Proteas, then we'll get a better idea. Cheers for watching as always buddy and thanks for your support.
Pretty good content. WI needs some reality check. They should focus less on T20s and start making Tests and ODIs their priority. Most importantly, they don't have to treat other two formats like T20s where there's only boundaries and no strike rotation.
seeing west indies is like a praty , i was disheartened to see WI not ualifying for the worldcup. I can just hope west indies jumps back from their failures, like sri lanka they are slowely catching their rythm
I remember the last years of their great era, propped up by Ambrose, Walsh, Lara and Chanderpaul. I seem to remember when the Stanford T20 league collapsed and the owner went to prison, that it accelerated the decline? I'm not sure of the timeline, but the impact of the Stanford scandal is probably worth a video.
@6ixandout this question came to my mind after the lack of interest in the 2022 T20WC by the local fans, who were the defending champions then . Also, I didn't see any excitement in the Aussie fans after they won the 2021 t20WC .
Being joint hosts along with the US at least means the Windies didn’t have to qualify for the T20 world cup next year. Losing to Scotland in a must win game to qualify for world cup in India sums up how far they’ve fallen. It wasn’t even a narrow loss, Scotland beat them by 7 wickets and 39 balls to spare.
T20 format should be scrapped with immediate effect it brings more misery to West Indies and with the rise of franchise cricket more key players like Narine Russell opted to stay away from international cricket which is a worrying sign for a team that won 2 ODI World Cup and 1 Champions Trophy West Indies players should prioritise international cricket over franchise cricket and board should end their ego and salary deduction for players as well if players are well paid they would've avoided playing franchise cricket
Things continue to go badly for the Windies, they just lost the shortest Adelaide Test in history - A match which for some reason started on a Wednesday and was over before lunch on the Friday.
The fielding against Zimbabwe was truly shocking, worse than even Pakistan who are at least at the world cup. The game against the Dutch has to be one of the greatest ever and easily the greatest ever for the Dutch.
They tried to play Domestic League T20 Cricket in an International ODI Cricket Tournament, what else did they think was going to happen? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
wi vs ned match , wish i would have seen it live i saw the score card the next day of the match and was shocked that the wi lost after setting a big target
@@akeemalleyne5890 But it's making the 2023 WC so dull and boring. Windies surely would have had the X Factor , now Netherlands is basically a punching bag for all teams except Afg maybe.
As a cricket fan. The West Indies once upon a time being a formidable part of the Cricket world between 1950 to 1995. About 45 years period an era where west indies were formidable home and away until Mark Taylors Australians ended the era in the Caribbean in mid 1995 an era that started with West Indies famous victory at Lord's in June 1950 under Capt Goddard which inspired the famous cricket song. Victory Calypso by Lord Beginner kicked off a remarkable 45 years of West Indies dominance of the world of cricket ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wFl9x3XzKSw.html. Making west indies region an important region for the game of cricket. Then as the 90s dawned it was obvious west indies was struggling to hold on to their high status in the sport and the game was declining in popularity as well in the region and it was a matter of time before a team would beat them in a test series. Australia came close in 1992-93 in Australia. But Australians finally blew the west indies fotress in mid 1995 and the west indies have not recovered since and have been what seems to the horror of cricket fans everywhere a near permanent decline of the sport in the caribbean. Sad for me as a cricket fan not to see the caribbean an important region for the sport not rise again. To the point now there are ex test cricketers from other countries seriously calling for the west indies to lose their test status. Remember this is a team that dominated cricket for 45 years and played the most entertaining brand of cricket called calypso cricket and their wi crowds brought music, colour vibrancy, joy in those 45 years that just did not exist anywhere else in the cricket world. Travelling to the west indies during that era was a highlight for test players and cricket fans who can afford it to travel there alike in the cricket calender. Its sad whats happened to the sport in the caribbean. I hear some indian businessmen wants to take cricket to the U.S. next door because of the large indian U.S. based diaspora. I say why not include the Caribbean which could do with serious investment in the sport in the Caribbean. Those who are part of the U.S. based Indian diaspora who are financially affluent and graduated to successful middle class status in U.S. can support cricket in the Caribbean which would be a short plane ride away from most cities in the U.S. The U.S. was never important region to the sport of cricket. But just next door to the U.S. off the coast of southern florida from the Bahamas to Jamaica to Antigua to Barbados to Trinidad and Tobago Cricket had been an important region to the sport of Cricket for nearly 50 years. How can people let such brilliant cricketing legacy disappear from the face of the earth is beyond me as a cricket fan.
Shai hope is not playing most games .. it's the internal affair of cricket board to no choose right players ... Ban Windies cricket , Play as a nation .. I say it because this is the solution.. ICC need to look at it . Why not let play as different team, St Kitts, Trinidad, Guyana, Jamaica ... make independent teams .. would be no problems with selection and reducing quality of cricket 🏏.
You're so right on with this current West Indies. It's so sad to see the downfall of the West Indies Team. They were so good then, and when you see it now, it's hard to see them performing like this. I genuinely hope they can come back strong, but god knows when.
Thing is, if you had a test tournament of all time XI's. The Windies would probably win it. Imagine, a middle order where the worst batsman was Brian Lara. And an attack where the worst bowler was Michael Holding.
As a west indian this is truly painful, especially the last ODI against India, the shot selection was terrible, and the communication between the wickets was appalling
Do you think playing as individual nations will do better? Trinidad, Jamaica etc The administration can be improved and decentralised. The concept of West Indies. Is that an old concept?
@@KamleshMallick No, individual nations would do worse, and will only ever be associate teams. the problem with West Indies are not enough playing time (the league is too short most players play only 7 regional ODI games within one month for the entire year. if you have a bad month then you don't get looked at and if luck has to wait another year for redemption, and if you are in form but too young, then you lay and rot for another year. Some players are lucky to play in T20 franchises, but most WI players that do don't even play for the West Indies!!) and poor-quality coaching. It's a boys' club here, they only want to hire black coaches. It's something that won't change if they divide into many smaller teams.
What's so confusing is that WI had a bowler who defended 7 runs in the last over but didn't use him for the super over. I've never seen Holder bowl a decent over at the death.
things r changing now tho..cricket would be played in olympics now as well.. its a logical game and easy to understand too... those who played it knows its fun...@@thesagerinnegan5898
I remember i was following West indies vs Netherlands through cricbuzz and when I saw the super over scorecard i was thinking that holder scored 30 runs against loogan van beek then i rushed to hotstar and i was shocked to see Charles and hope coming out to bat i was like why what the hell is happening here and then i rubbed my eyes only to know that netherlands scored 30 runs against West indies 😅😅
Logan van Beek is actually good player. He has dual nationality and play domestic in nz also. It's just holland doesn't play much cricket against big teams.
Great analysis! I think you should talk about the recent improvement of teams that were not taken seriously in the past but are showing some flare now and getting some unexpected results against stronger teams and how they can improve further.
