CJ Cregg is for me, the strongest female character TV has ever seen. The strength and confidence as well as the human weakness is in the character is breathtaking
...CJ Craig running for office would be an incredible way to reboot The West Wing. I imagine Toby convincing her to run in Ohio, wherevshes from. Being the Leo to her Jed in some congressional race to give the democrats the senate or something. Hell it writes itself.
I can't believe I've forgotten how beautifully and insightfully this show was written and performed. Even with the warts that were inevitable to pop up in the Bartlett Administration, I still find it worthy to aspire to. While Hollywood gets to sweep things under the rug, ignoring some things that do play a key role, the show gives us the insiders views of a presidential administration many of us dream of for our own, all to real world. Whether one agrees with Bartlett's politics, I hope people across the political spectrum can appreciate the importance of genuineness and humility, often on display in this amazing show.
Allison Janney is one of the most awarded and critically acclaimed actresses in the business. A seven time Emmy winner, an Oscar, Golden Globe and SAG winner, a two time Tony nominee, she has proven what an amazing range she has as a performer. And she had been working steadily as an actress for more than a decade before her big break came at the age of 40 in "The West Wing" in 1999. Which proves that good things come to those who wait......
How do I know this is an outstanding TV show? I'm a conservative. Although I have to cringe at many of the Bartlett administration's victories, the show is fast moving, extremely well written, intelligent, thought provoking and engaging. The characters are larger than life yet believable. True excellence in television is rare, and when it comes along it's mesmerizing.
Go back and watch the series with a more critical eye. The members of the Bartlett administration were every bit as cutthroat, manipulative, and dirty politics as real life, but they were written so well that you became invested in THEM and didn’t notice it when offered amnesty to illegals to get more votes, or used back room deals to stack the federal elections commission, or backstab a fellow democrat to score political points. While I LOVED the show, I think it gave a false sense of well-being of the Democratic Party.
@@benrichey2593unless you come in and go through the correct channels like my aunt did from Poland for 14 years prior to attaining her citizenship you are in fact illegal. Don’t like it, take it up with our federal laws. Otherwise passports are meaningless so try traveling to other countries including getting into ours without one (without crossing the Rio Grande river).
I watched a scene out of West Wing when Goodman became president due to the 25th amendment and thought clearly Biden is in it for himself, or OBiden ; otherwise the 25th would not only have been in the table a long time ago it would have already happened.
The look on her face when it was announced that she would be Chief of Staff gives me goosebumps every time. Allison Janney is an amazing actress. I've never seen her make a misstep. Her latest work on "Mom" and especially "Masters of Sex" is absolutely stellar. Oh, and she has the best laugh ever.
There are few actors that can fully flesh out a role and make you love them so wholeheartedly that that one character they have done is the one that is permanently set in your mind when you think of them. Allison Janney is an excellent actress and has done many great roles but my absolute favorite character she has ever done, was C.J. Cregg. No one else could have done this better than her.
As a Canadian, I loved this series. It portrayed the right human emotions/personalities and frailties. It showed what class, human dignity, empathy etc was meant to be. Excellent work CJ Cregg.
Having watched the show a gazillion times, and as much as I love the whole cast, I have to say Allison Janney produced the best acting performance out of them all. Chapeau l’artiste !
The music always triggers so many wonderful memories of Sunday evenings at 9.00 pm. Warming, intelligent drama. Top,TOP TV and the best series I’ve ever seen.
A very memorable performance by a very accomplished actress. Watching this compilation, you realise what a very fine cast the programme had (in the unlikely event that you had not realised that previously).
One of my all-time favorite TV characters! Allison Janney delivered impeccable performances. Thank you to Aaron Sorkin and company for creating such an outstanding character!!
Oh how I miss this show. CJ was the best and Allison is an incredible actress. Aaron Sorkin- we need more of ur incredible writing on the air waves again. West Wing and all those that helped make it a wonderful show..... Ty & we miss you all!!!!
Allison Janney and John Spencer are absolutely my two favorite performances on this show. CJ Cregg is just the best. The writing of the show is very witty and it comes off as smarmy in some of the characters, but CJ Craig is incredibly likable because of her performance.
I loved this!!! I loved C.J. I can’t believe that all these years later I’m just finding all these videos on what is absolutely one of my favorite shows of ALL time. I just binge watched the whole 7 seasons on Netflix. I enjoyed it even more this time!!!!
Allison Janney was excellent in the play Enter Laughing with Frank Langella, she was super in the film Ice Storm, and you all know how criminally super she was in The West Wing. Aside from the financial incentive of doing the show Mom, it drives me nuts that she's in the show. She rarely has a good script to work from, and it goes downhill from there. I'd love for someone to write a James Burrows-directed sitcom(like Frasier, Cheers, etc) for her, if we can't get Aaron Sorkin to put together a reboot of TWW.
Emmy : It hurts to see John in these DVD Extras touting Allison along with scenes from after his passing. It's tough to watch sometimes, both so great in the series. RIP John. :(
I’m not at all sure why it’s sad to see him. It makes me happy to see him, it brings back such good memories of good performances from the best show ever written. Thank you all🙏🏻
@@jillom6648 Because I was so upset he didn’t live to the end of the series. I saw the episode where Leo has a heart attack after John Spencer had died of a heart attack, it was so well acted but too real
I loved the fake mass resignation prank scene, that was the moment the guys were all telling her that they were on board and would support her in the new Chief position :)
Yes and no. They fully support her, they think she can do it, but they feel totally uncomfortable, what is very logic since Josh was left "frozen" in his position, and Toby was lowered! Ridiculous, that would never happen in real life without both of them quitting. And something similar happened.. Josh will resign shortly, and the authors didn´t know what to do with Toby, at the point to write a ridiculous plot that made the actor (!) resigned...
One of my favorite TV shows EVER! I have all 7 seasons and rewatch them at least every 2 years during the election madness. Especially now when our reality feels like it has gone so far off the rails I would love to see Bartlett For President 2020!
Watched the series many times from start to finish... very best part was watching her get promoted to Chief of Staff!!! Could watch it again and again.
I will never understand that. She went from disemminating information and spin to making policy, foreign delegations etc. It made no sense. TWW promoting Toby would have made more sense and Toby's role is highly fictional since communication directors don't help steer policy, he'd head speech writer. Just bizarre.
@@VerbalEnigma Totally agree: Ridiculous, that would never happen in real life without both of them quitting. And something similar happened.. Josh will resign shortly, and the authors didn´t know what to do with Toby, at the point to write a ridiculous plot that made the actor (!) resigned...
My favorite character in the series. Thoroughly appreciated the C J Cregg cold open for the Not the WH Correspondents Dinner. It also ripped my heart out with nostalgia for a more noble time.
CJ Cregg is a beautiful example for females everywhere. She never once gave up her job. I wish there was more female characters out there for girls to look up to instead of a lot of girls look up to Disney Princesses who swoon and majority of them have to have a guy come and save the day. Thank you to the writers and Allison Janney for playing her to show us it is ok to work so hard, and after have love.
I love Allison Janney as CJ, But I also love all of the other players in this great ensemble cast. Everything about TWW is almost as perfect as it can get. Acting, script & well placed comedy relief. Maybe the greatest drama in the history of TV. Although it is a totally different type of show, my favorite ensemble cast in a comedy was WKRP in Cincinnati.
CJ Craig is the kind of person I'm like, "Yeah. She's pretty cool." And then I immediately go, "oh yeah. CJ Craig is a CHARACTER! She's played by an actress." Such an incredible actress. I never think of CJ as a performance.
CJ was the only senior advisor to not screw up and take Bartletts wrath. She could call him out on any topic and he would totally understand where she was coming from.
I have to disagee. We got five years, and then the last two were ... as much as I love Alan Alda, not even he could save the west wing when every episode became the same story over and over.
@@irish_soldier1248 - Well then, if YOUR life is going well... what the heck else matters? 225,000 families mourning the loss of loved ones, minorities in an uproar because their lives are less valued than yours, over 3,000,000 people’s lives affected by job loss, lower incomes, medical expenses, etc., but ehh... your fine, then everything’s great! 😳 Seriously?
Given that John Spencer died in Dec 2005, during the end of season 7 this must have been put together sometime during season 6 and 7. Great to hear what "Leo" thought of her!
Delightful. Must confess to having had a thing for Ms Janney ever since I first clapped eyes on her in the West Wing. Seeing these clips however reminds me of how brilliantly Martin Sheen fitted into the role of President. He WAS President Bartlett. When he, the actor, speaks of ‘the administration‘ it’s with affection, as if it were the real thing. If only. Look what you’ve got now.
@Jim Dandy Really? You think that being in the state we now exist in is preferable to an Aaron Sorkin produced fictional TV show about how the American administration might be portrayed is okay? Preferable? Better? You like Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, McConnell, Lindsey Graham and so on? Allow me to express my contempt for you and the thirty seven percenters who show up in polls that support trump that I call Dumb and Dumber. I'll take children over dumb and dumber every day.
A great job by AJ in a great series. I can't see her being more memorable in any other role, ever. Every actual White House Press Secretary I've ever looked at has somehow only been a fraction of CJ Cregg
America says a woman might not be qualified to be president or Chief of Staff....and yet here we are with a reality show host who told America to inject bleach into our lungs. 🙄
Well! Fancy meeting you here, Ro. I often find myself thinking of what the Biden administration will look like. Because, once this whole thing is over, a lot of people will be updating their resumes...and looking for lawyers.
My boyfriend, who's going through a hard time, is named Chris and his middle name is Jason. I call him CJ with such great admiration and love. I hope he works through it and comes back to me
Crap, crap, crap, crap ! I should have known NOT to watch this. Now I have to go binge watch every freaking episode on Netflix A G A I N !! And when I say again, I mean, this will be literally no joke my fifth time in a year. Every . Freaking. Episode. Oh well !
Every Memorial Day weekend I open up the West Wing DVD box set and binge watch. My wife accompanied me during one of these binges. After that she will only join me on the couch if I promise not to mansplain things in the show. I promised. However, and you should have guessed there would be a however, I did quiz her on things. How many electoral votes needed to win? If the two Senators from each state account for 100 electoral votes and the 435 members of the House account for 435 electoral votes, where do the remaining 3 electoral votes needed to make up the 538 electoral votes (538/2=269)+1=270 electoral votes needed to win, come from? After 8 years of this I've run out of questions and she still holds me to the mansplaining promise. Not sure who won.
@@stevenbennett3805 This reply makes me smile :) It's such a touchy subject lately, but I'm a Republican who adores this show and honestly, I know Bartlet is a Democrat, but the show is so well written, there is hardly any proof they are either R or D. I saw this "Reaction" video the other day of a guy doing a reaction to the Gap Band's Party Train video... he's black and was loving the video and stopped it, misty eyed and in awe and said " Look at that diversity ! " ( referring to the crowds in the video and how everyone was getting along.... I felt so sorry for him and for the younger ones today. That is how we were ! That's how I grew up ! Even in the south, there was NO racial bs . We just had fun together and all that. I won't attack any person for their political beliefs but I do know one thing, and no pundit or MSM told me to think this. This is not the same Democratic party I grew up with. It's not near the same as is portrayed in the WW. It just breaks my heart that the further we get away from the racial tensions in the 60s and such..... it seems we're regressing instead of progressing.
Such a brilliant series with so many standout performances, and you could definitely say Allison's was one of if not the best. Don't know how much of that was how the character was written but CJ always seemed to be perhaps the best person in the Bartlett administration, good, kind and just without being overbearing (generally). I wish there were series this well written and acted today, but nothing seems close these days.
Allison Janney got an Oscar for I, Tonya, but CJ got her 6 Emmy nominations and 4 wins. Best Supporting Actress in a Drama in 2000 and 2001, Best Actress in a Drama 2002 and 2004.
I stumbled across WW through RU-vid since I do not even own a TV set. MY GOD, this show and THE NEWSOOM are glaring exceptions to the utter wasteland on the American BOOB -TUBE. The whole cast, the writing, the making of Aaron's shows is STELLAR. They are also what I want of my Exefutive Branch. The character written as JED BARTLETT is the diametric opposite of the Whitehouse under the current and last clowns who parked their glutimus maximus in the Chair in The OVAL Office.. Lest we think these " leaders" actually did their jobs, the current and previous Presidents were and are controlled by a single group which manifests itself as the major political party leaders. In the next election, I might write in JED BARTLETT, WILL MACAVOY, or possibly AARON SORKIN !
Only one of very few mistakes made in the West Wing, but by this time Sorkin was well and truly gone. I love the CJ character but Press Secretary to Chief of Staff?? No way. In my opinion the best suited person and character for that role would have been Nancy McNally. Did Nancy ever stuff up? I can't recall even once. She was a great character and a very strong and powerful personality. Having her as Chief of Staff would have been very fitting.
Here's my question that's always bugged me. Why wasn't Sam at Leo's funeral? A week later Josh travels to California to pitch him the Deputy job. Wouldn't you think Sam would be at the funeral and he would have mentioned it there? (I get it's a TV show. It's just a point of conversation)
Yeah, it's time to watch all seven seasons, from Bartlett's bike accident to Santos' taking his place in the Oval Office. It's a television masterpiece.
Still love you..whenever my husband & I are having problems............serious........problems........ always go to--'CJ.....U fell into the pool there............>".........
