Dr Gerstner did not make here a distinction of general faith in the Gospel versus Saving Faith when he asks which one comes first: repentance or faith. Obviously he is talking about saving faith here. He is contrasting saving faith with repentance. He makes it clear that only a logical order is perceivable when we are saved, so we perceive saving faith coming in together with repentance. Although without repentance, saving faith does not make sense, on the long walk, we can neither repent if we don’t even believe in sin. That is why he agrees with the Westminster divines that saving faith logically precedes repentance.
