Alec Neate As kids here in the UK, it was so very much more peaceful than today. There were no screens other than the TV screen, so no faces buried in an iPad, smart phone or laptop. People spoke either on the landline phone or face to face. No mobile phones. The only cameras we had were just film spool ones that we had to wait a week to get the pictures developed from, which was exiting. Music was provided either by the radio or vinyl records, or cassette tapes later in the 1970s. If you wanted to see a new movie, you had to go to the cinema which is among my best memories. We came out with our imaginations buzzing with desires to be whatever kind of person the hero in the movie was lol. Playtime was with friends and/or siblings and we played at whatever our imagination suggested, or football/soccer etc. We were outside doing things until we were called in for dinner or bedtime. Mom was always around and dad wasn’t too far away or due in from work any time soon. That is a deeply secure and peaceful feeling that I miss the most. Summers did seem sunnier for longer, in the UK than it is today. However warm it got, it was never too hot like in recent years. People were generally more polite. Not everyone had or has the same quality of childhood, but that’s the same with everything. I’m describing how things were generally. If you get on well with your parents, please tell them every day, or at least very often that you love them so very much. They won’t be there someday. I wish I’d told my mum and dad more, that I loved them.

@@alecneate76 It's true. I was born in 1957 and my childhood was through the 60s in Wales, UK. Life was a never ending carefree adventure. It was idyllic. Summer Holidays..1974/75. Out of bed at 8:30..waiting for the BBC1 test card to finish & ''my shows'' to start. White Horses, Flashing Blade & Robinson Crusoe all to myself with breakfast of sweet tea & toast. What a start to the day. Those times are gone. Today?...it's grim breakfast tv, with grim news told by grim people. If the BBC had any sense they'd try these shows for a week...& see the viewing figures zoom. But they can't...all the tapes of these broadcasts have been lost. Shame on us.

It's strange, I a man of over sixty years of age and I can't remember anything of the series except the theme tune, yet every time I hear the music the tears flow. It is the memory of lost innocent times and of the loved ones who are no longer with me. I get the same reaction from the music in the original and best film version of The Railway Children. It's a kind of sweet sadness.

I agree with all the comments below, and if anybody has heard the new robbie williams christmas song - Rudolf- where he uses the theme from the 1974 Robinson Crusoe, same lovely memory trigger. However, the extra bit for me was the beep at the start. As a small kid I would get yup at stupid oclock to watch BBC sat morning TV with my brothers. We woudl wait for hours. I think there was a BW type programme like white horses or Robinsoe Crusoe usually first. Then Mary mungo and midge, with Fingerbobs in there somewhere. And no social media or mobile phones to complicate my simple life :)

Fantastic to see this again! My most favourite favourite thing in my childhood. Julia and Boris! Are they really going to release it? There are so many of us that will buy it when they do! The sound track has a special crunchy cloppy hoof sound that is just unmistakeable and the theme tune is just nostalgia heaven!

+barry bagnail Me too! My grandma told me she did it as I child so I went home and tied rope to my sister's and mothers bikes as well as mine. I would exercise these 'horses' daily. Oh it makes me smile. They all had names and I took it so seriously. I was lucky enough to eventually have a real live pony of my own.

It's such a shame that Helga Anders died from drink and drugs at 38. A sweet looking girl went totally off the rails and because of her habits, died of heart failure. That lying in bed scene was priceless. What an amazing face.

julka1 It's a pity that she wasn't destined to be a great star. She really was lovely and she could act: sometimes we forget that ability, and not just looks, matter as well. It's so sad.

But lets not forget that your singing of the theme song also made the series complete, MsJackieLee. Your voice will forever be etched very very deeply into my memory of being a child. White Horses would just be another children's TV series if it wasn't for you singing the theme song.

Hmm So the movie 'Me Without You' starring Anna Friel, Michelle Williams, Kyle MacLachlan Oliver Milburn used this track and I was under the belief it was written and recorded specifically for that movie, no it's from this mostly unknown TV series White Horses. Great track it is
