March 14, 2022 - after only learning of, "The White Shadow," maybe in 2004-05: I FINALLY saw the show for the first time ever. I'd heard so much about this program over the years, and just happened to watch tv late at night (hardly ever do nowadays) and saw TWS on Decades TV. My biggest surprise is seeing Carter, Van Patten, and Hooks as the directors of some of the greatest television/movies ever created (The Wire/Sopranos/Boardwalk Empire/GoT/24/Castle). Late revelations are sometimes some of the most beautiful moments in life.
I hadn't realized this show was loosely based on Howard's own experience playing high school basketball. He was actually called "The White Shadow" because he was the only white starter on the team.
White Shadow use to be that show; tv brought back so many great series that were once all that in their heyday. They should spice it up a bit and bring back White Shadow, Welcome Back Kotter, Fame, Kojak, The A-Team, the original Incredible Hulk w/ Bill Bixby, Miami Vice, etc….
Wouldn't that be great today in real life if injured or retired nba players today would come down to earth to coach and be a inspiration to a high school team!!!
While we are on the topic of Blythe Danner, I think that she did a great job as Will's mom on "Will and Grace". In my opinion, she was pretty hot for a sixty something!
Gomez, Thorpe, Heyward, Salami, Reese, Goldstein, Coolidge, & Jackson. Later on Vitali (Salami's cousin) and some other dude named Falahey or something like that. Those are the only ones I can remember.
