Betty raising all of her siblings AND the younger generation. I’m not religious but this woman deserves a special place in heaven! If we came to learn to love, she passed the test with flying colors.

I find Luis very likable. I hope he feels better enough about himself to realize he's likable and that he deserves whatever he wants in life.

Luis is the one, in this family, to support. With a bit of upward mobility I believe he could make something of his life.

I'd love to see Luis get his GED. He seems so smart. It's never too late.

Betty is glue that held the entire family together. I hope life treats these boys kind

"I dont got very many friends, i dont see myself as a likeable person" Buddy, you are respectful, and young, and people would be lucky to be friends with you.

His mother and grandfather stated that Brandon threatens Betty with burning down their house unless they give give him money. The authorities need to be made aware. Just because they're family doesnt mean you can extort with threats of violence with no repercussions. The people donating deserve to have their funds used for what they were told it would be used for. This is despicable.

Back in the day, folks would drive by the Whittakers to harrass them, but now that Mark shined a bright light on them, they're embraced and loved by one and all.

Growing up oldest of 6 kids, on welfare and no dad I felt hopeless most everyday, on my 17th birthday I joined the military knowing it was my only resource for improving my life, I had no work, no money and had I set around waiting for opportunity to somehow find me I would have fallen by the wayside and probably ended up in jail or dead like some of my family and friends. Now 68 the scars of poverty still haunt me now and then but I thank God everyday for the US Marines

Blue hoodie has potential. I’m a healthcare professional and I’m linked to several charitable/ mentorship organizations. I would love to sponsor him so he can come see a day in the life at the office with patients and link him with people who can guide him towards getting his GED and furthering his education. There are so many careers in healthcare for him to explore and grow with. ❤

It's super sad to hear them talk about their mom and how they basically watched her slowly spiral into her addiction to the point that "she just quit caring" .....omg it's terribly heart breaking!!! I pray they have everything in life they want and need!!❤❤🙏🏽🙏🏽

Luis, I’m glad to hear you are scared for the drugs, because they are deadly. My son just died December 31, 2023. It’s no joke with these drugs do to people. Please, for God sake, don’t ever touch them. ((hugs))

Luis! Will pray for you to get your GED. I have a daughter your age who also had to leave high school her junior year. She wants to work with the elderly but is struggling hard with her mental health issues. Pray for her to get her GED too! You both are bright and deserve it.

Getting into restaurant management at a young age can be a great start. Eventually, moving to a larger city and better restaurants.. that can provide a nice living. If nursing/medical is Luis’ true passion, he can follow through with that as well. Wishing both the guys all the best.

The kid in the blue hoodie is quite intelligent and self-aware. I hope he achieves his dream. We are all cheering for him. For both of them.

One thing I can say is the family has a strong bond of loyalty and love.

It’s really heartwarming to hear how much they love their slightly different family members. The kids are on a better road than all those suffering from addiction. I hope they resist drugs.

So we’ve just found out Brandon’s been taking money from the Whittaker’s & is still doing drugs . But god bless Luis he got away is living with his older brother who also doesn’t do drugs & luis is working full time at McDonald’s !

If I were non-verbal, I'm not sure I'd be as brave as Ray was in that copperhead situation. To bring that snake back home and show his family what happened to him was a really smart move. Impressive.

Betty may not have graduated high school, but there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that she will graduate life, with honors ❤

Wow I like seeing this. Luis has a calm energy and quiet focus that makes him very likable. I think he is capable of doing a lot with himself. Brandon seems very sweet and good natured. I hear his aunts voice in him at times. I hope both of them are able to break the cycle they were born into and accomplish great things.

Brandon you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. What youve done is theft and elder abuse...anyone else other then Mark would have you charged!

Luis, I live in Indiana and there are a ton of healthcare opportunities with the many IU hospitals throughout the state. You can get a position that will pay you while training you to obtain certifications such as phlebotomy (drawing blood) and other various professions within the healthcare field. There’s also a network of low cost community colleges (Ivy Tech Community College) throughout the state. The campuses all offer nursing programs. Ivy Tech is partially state funded so there’s a ton of scholarship opportunities. There are not any housing programs but you could get a position at any of the many nursing homes that will pay to certify you as a CNA, then pay for your Ivy Tech classes to become a nurse and employ you as a nurse once you graduate and pass your nursing exams. It’s hard work getting there but it can be done. You can make a living while getting where you want to be and there are places that will pay for your education. You can do it!!

I’m 22 and I can see how much potential these boys have and seem extremely respectful and compassionate. I absolutely would love to have these 2 as friends and have long in depth conversations with. These boys have bright futures ahead of them

I have hope for Luis! I think he can get somewhere and do something good with his life. As long as he stays focused, and won't touch drugs or get anyone pregnant, he CAN do it !!! There's something different about him. I really hope and pray he stays on the right path. Becoming a nurse or a doctor is a fantastic goal !!!

My dad was a coal miner. Mom and dad were very hard working. They had nine children. Farming and coal Mining kept us alive. We grew up in oak hill, wva,near beckley. We all graduated from high school and two went to Ohio, Virginia, and North Carolina. We had a rough life but good memories and we all miss our hills of wva. I really enjoy you and the Whittaker’s. BOTH young men are adorable. I imagine going out in the world, they may feel shorted or a lack of confidence...and ppl can be horrible, hopefully they find ppl along the way who are encouraging and who believe in them. Success comes from within, but these boys have had a tough go out of the gate, and I wish them the best...life can beat you down even with the best of beginnings and opportunities. It's still early in the game for them to make it happen.

Betty is a true meaning of an angel! She promised her mother she wouldnt leave the family and she sacrificed her life to make sure the family stayed together!💖 These boys have been through it and they come across as lovely young men. You can see the love they have for the Whittakers and I would watch more interviews with Brandon and Luis. I bet they have some amazing tales to tell!

I wish I could give Luis a big hug and tell him he’s loved. He is a handsome, well-spoken young man and with the right support, he can do anything he puts his mind towards.❤. How some parents just throw away their children like old furniture is appalling and being in and out of foster care and prison lockdown for months on end? He is lucky to still be able to work and support himself. That shows he’s a survivor and fighter. I hope he’s able to get out of the holler and find his own way in life. He’s already defied the odds stacked against him. Keep going Luis! Good luck to Brandon and his family. He can meet and surpass his goals with the right support system. Kudos to them both for staying away from the hard and highly addictive drugs. They both deserve so much more.
