I was at this show! On the floor about 60 feet from the stage, paid $24 for a ticket. The clash were good too even though i wasnt a fan. Where did the time go...damn. RIP John Entwisle.
I was working at the Kingdome in Stadium Administration, manning our Control Booth on the second level, where we communicated with security and medics and crowd control staff, making sure you all behaved. The Who were always my favorite band and I got paid to watch this show!
This is one of those shows, kinds like the Nirvana/Pearl Jam/Soundgarden/Alice In Chains show in Salem, OR, that over the years everyone in the PNW claimed to be at.
This, also, was the very first concert I ever attended. THE WHO'S Final Tour . Philly - JFK stadium ( Was the largest stadium on the East Coast 200.000 plus fans)
Saw them in Biloxi on this tour and it changed my life. Pete's fingers were bleeding all over the fret board during the last two songs. I witnessed live rock as it was meant to be.
I love Townsend's guitar playing! This is one of his best guitar solos. On this tour, he would change it up with each show - a true showman. I always regarded his guitar wizardry superior to Hendrix and Page.
Lawrence Ballack You get it, and you're RIGHT! Pete is a Wizard on the Guitar, surpassing His Contemporaries ! but some rockers will not ever see it.... I've been listening to Rock though the 60's the 70's and 80's, it's Pete Live Guitar edging out the superstars......IMO...
Absolutely brilliant! Pete's lead vocals and guitar on this song are top class, it's almost a solo song (and I bet he did save it for one of his solo albums)!
I was at this concert (18 years old) in the Kingdome with a Buddy of mine! The Clash and T-Bone Burnett opened! What A Great Time! I was up on the 3 rd level and watched the crowd just move in waves. Loved It!
I am dating myself but I was there at the Kingdome for that show. it was F*ING loud. I was playing in a band called Tangent at the time and it really left an impression on me. Thanks for posting!
Yep, I was there. Still got my ticket stub to prove it. The Clash opened for them and arguably the Clash blew them off the stage but Townsend & Co. still gave a GREAT show!
Yes I just found this song a few months ago! I love the groove. Pete Townshend is not only a genius, he is also a very nice guy, a product of England after the war. I am reading his book - Who I Am.
With I could watch this video like every one coming up in the playlists- but it just won't play- but the commercials do so excellently- thanks RU-vid (you and your technicians are doing such a fine job!!)
A blast from the past, drove down from Vancouver to see their performance! Rocky Burnett, The Clash opened... great performances ...and the Who, crowd killers!
Entwistle just makes me laugh. Nobody can hold a candle to him. Geddy's great, and Flea has some tasty chops, but The Ox is the daddy. In every clip on the interweb he's doing things that nobody else can do or ever will do again. He's as unique as Moonie. Stands alone. There's The Ox up here, and there's everyone else down there.
GREAT VIDEO, THANKS FOR POSTING . THIS WAS GREAT FUN- THE WHO DIDN'T PLAY VANCOUVER ON THIS TOUR SO THE SUN NEWSPAPER HAD A DRAW FOR TEN THOUSAND TICKETS TO THE SEATTLE SHOW . IT WAS QUITE THE BORDER CROSSING AS I RECALL. MUCH 'UNPACKING ' AT THE FIRST REST STOP OVER THE BORDER!!!!!
I saw this tour in Biloxi M.S. in December of 82. Towards the end of the 3 hour set my friend and I got as close to Pete (God) as we could and saw that his fingers were bleeding. We looked at one another and knew,at that moment, what rock and roll was what it should be.
I know this song thanks to gta san andreas, and is great. Perfect bass, perfect guitar, perfect keyboars, perfect drums, and a nice rocker voice. The man who chose the music in gta san andreas it's my idol. One video game can teaching culture.
Roger is playing on this tune. He has always played guitar on this tune. Roger played guitar in the early bands that eventually became the Who. He is low in the mix, but Roger's guitar parts are there
awesome vid, i was at this show, we drove down to seattle from vancouver. 5 of us cramed into a 73 pinto station wagon, what a wicked concert thanks for posting
I find it interesting during the tour rehearsals (when the Eminence Front video and the Schiltz beer ad) Roger was playing a black Schecter Telecaster like Pete's. But during the actual tour he seems to have used a blonde Fender Esquire, like in this video. BTW, this is a great version of the song. The bass is nice and loud in the mix (as it should always be when Thunderfingers is present) and Pete's playing is inspired.
@Kohntarkosz In the very early portion of the tour Roger was using the black Schecter because I saw them on the 3rd show of the tour in Philadelphia and Roger used the black Schector for 2 songs ( It’s Hard & Eminence Front ) They opened up the tour with two shows in Landover Maryland and that’s where those Schlitz promos were recorded!🍺🎸
@@phillyghost1256 Well, the Schlitz ad I was thinking about, they're shown doing It's Hard at a soundcheck or rehearsal, but now that you remind me, there was also one where they're shown playing live onstage. At any rate, I wonder how it came to be that Roger switched to the Esquire. I imagine they were one of those bands, every show, there was someone from a music store backstage looking to show them guitars. I wonder if that's not what happened, someone showed up backstage with an Esquire, and Roger says "I rather fancy that one" and bought it off whoever it was who was selling it.
@@Kohntarkosz Maybe it was just the feel of the guitar that Roger switched it up but I’m so glad Pete stuck with the black for most of the “82” tour because it’s a very cool looking guitar and I can attest that Pete’s power chords rocked the stadium in Philadelphia on that glorious day when I saw The WHO in “1982”🇬🇧🏟️🎸…. By the way I never expected a reply from a comment that was made 12 years ago😂 but I’m glad you tagged back to talk some WHO👍
@@phillyghost1256 Yeah, I'm always surprised when people respond to something I posted a decade or more ago. So I usually respond, just because I think it' snice that some cares that much about something I said that long ago that you'd respond. :)
I saw the Who play live about this time in Dallas,Texas. It was touted as the "Last American Tour". Yeah...right. Still, it was awesome and I particularly remember this "new" tune.
Was there ! Front row (always at any venue in Seattle... I knew how to sneak in to any building and hide for hours and stay out of weather and listen to soundchecks). This was the first of how many "Farewell Tours" ? 33 years ago. Too funny. Clash was certainly a bonus !
+TacomaPaul I was there too. I remember that tour as previous concerts on that tour noted the lack of them playing "My Generation". First song...MY GENERATION! Actually I thought the Clash were AWESOME!!!
I can't believe what Pete's capable of on his guitar. He always seems to have quiet a struggle with his solos and then he turns out to be a jazz rock virtuoso
