Yes, I know the quality is poor. This is an outtake from the movie "The Kids Are Alright" (1978) recorded at Shepperton Studios 20 July, 1977. Keith Moon on drums and lead vocal, Pete Townshend on guitar, an unseen John Entwistle on bass and an equally unseen Roger Daltrey on backing vocals. This is The Who's only known surviving recording of The Who performing a song by The Beatles.

Sounds like every garage band I was in during junior high school. In March '68 at 14 years-old, I saw The Who live at Drew University in Madison, NJ. They were unbelievable (and yes, they smashed their equipment on "My Generation", while colorful smoke bombs filled the air). Three years later, I caught 'em in Boston on their "Won't Get Fooled Again" tour.

A singer he wasn't, which makes it all the more amazing that Moon put out a solo album. It wasn't good, and he didn't even play drums on it for the most part. He wanted to play Beach Boys music and be the lead singer for the band, life if tough though.

@jimwelsh997
@jimwelsh997 Год назад
@@PaulFormentos yes Paul I heard something about that. But it wasn't the getting drunk and doing drugs. Pete and Roger and John were talking about letting Keith Moon go. Right after the tour for the who are you album. They were redoing songs because Keith couldn't keep up with the other guys. That's what the problem was Keith was out of shape. If you ever watch the kids are alright the documentary about the who. Won't get fooled again and teenage wasteland. They had to get Keith to go into the studio and do it over cause of much he was off timing. Then he couldn't do it in the studio. So they went and got someone else to do the drums over the recording. I am not full of shit. I couldn't believe it when I Heard about it. That's why Keith was taking the medicine that killed him. he stopped drinking and the medicine was too help. But Keith was one of those people who believes he needs more than everyone else and he never woke up. That medicine should never have been given to him. They give that medicine to you in the hospital to keep an eye on the person.

I had never seen this before. It was nice to watch the band shaking off the cobwebs and finding their musical muscles as a band. They were just there for a lark and to have fun. The fun shows. It appears, to me, that, though a bit sloppy here because of the circumstances, Keith was getting back in shape and would in short order would once again be the "Best Keith Moon Type Drummer" in the world. Too bad time was ticking away.

This rehearsal session was the first thing filmed for "The Kids Are Alright", and they had only one camera (according to director Jeff Stein), which is why this is just a static shot, while with "Barbara Ann", they got to maneuver it a bit. As it is, we're lucky something like this survived.
