They came to Isle of Wight having spent three years proving that they were at the top of the heap of live musical acts of that time. And this performance sealed the deal.
Thanks to all for the Great comments here, my Oldest Son is a Fanatic of The Who too. We've Rocked out to this tune & actually this entire DVD. Glad I was a teen during the epic decade that was the 1960's. How about some more 'Water' !
I’m such a Who fan that my daughter came up with something that made me catch my breath: “Mom, The Who were Made for you!” She’s always been an insightful little thing, lol. The Who is Love and I Love The Who!
Keith's giving it some... fucking love that dude... my favourite drummer of all time. The Who at this time were the epitome, a band who all knew their instruments, and who all played them so well.. fantastic musicians
100% agree Jonathan. Keith is my all time favorite drummer too. He had a real connection with his drum kit. And as we see here it was Awesome. Those 4 were In Tune together & Pete's songwriting was amazing. Thanks for commenting, always like talking Classic Rock.Keep Rockin' Sir !
Brilliantly stated John! I couldn't agree more, yes, Pete pissed off was excellent as the 3 other music geniuses too. I've watched this HD Video Disc of them I bought 20 years a go countless times. The Who forever!😎💯
Who are the three people who don't think this is the most awesome Keith Moon moment not to mention Townshend plays a solo, Entwihistle and Moon the perfect compliment of energy, Roger being...well...1970s Roger
100% agree Erick! All of this amazing music was written/played without all of the special effects/mixers of today. Yes, I agree R.I.P music as it's severely lacking these days.
@@RockmasterVideos Men's clothing is a disgrace unless you like sports logos or camo. You can find some good things on Etsy. I'm in a band, so I try not to wear anything that doesn't make me look like a rockstar! At very least, do as Roger did, and don't be afraid to show a little skin! 😆
The Who are a real rock band and have been since they first started unfortunately they lost Keith moon and his departure didn’t dry up Towsends pen as they continued to sell out huge arenas around the globe and probably would if they had a tour planned in the future but they aren’t the same as they are old people who can still rock
Ok maybe this has been covered already but did Pete haul off and smack Moon in the chops at 1:06? It sure looked like it to me and sounded it. Pete looked slightly concerned and Moon looked like a beaten dog at 1:21. I thought it was Rodger that handed out the smack downs in that band?
@@ceciliacecilia9883 - How would I be able to identify it one way or the other unless I listen to it? Why do you ask? Do you like Jello & tuna fish sandwiches? Peanut butter & sardines together?
Is stunning to watch Keith playing alive. I mean, how many rock bands had a drummer that was a frontman? You simply cannot take your eyes off, from him! And isn't just the act, or how funny he was, or the crazy faces that he made. Besides, it was an outstanding drummer! Must be such an experience to be able to see The Who in 1970. They were on their peak, back then!
WoW, what an Amazing comment Cynthia. I know Keith would share a smile for that Nice compliment & Rockmaster totally agees with every word you just typed. Great to hear from you, Moon was incredible on drums.
@@RockmasterVideos OMG! Thanks for reply. I really enjoy watching/hearing him (the whole band). He even made one of his drumsticks bounces up, and grabed it just on time... Keeping the tempo! He did that a couple of times Thank you for uploading this, it has an incredible quality of sound and video! Cheers from Buenos Aires!
Four solo performances completely synchronised in to a rock music steamroller as individuals they were all the best but together never to be repeated out of this world.
Never has there been a band so totally in sync with each other. Each a complete master of their craft. No special effects. THEY WERE THE SPECIAL EFFECTS.
Well I'm with you to a point, but there was a band called Sabbath that were pretty tuned into each other, and that band called Zeppelin, and a band called Beatles...
Moon ie was an orchestra all by himself! He played lead! Townshend was forced to keep the beat. Have you heard The Real Me? The singular best bass solo in existence! And he stated he had no idea how he even played the tone and harmonics that you can hear, but mostly just perceive on a higher order.
That's right he was on the drums, but there he was the purest soloist. He did not play rhythm, he never could. He did not want to. He was hyperactive and played with the music. Many drummers could not do that, they had to submit. Keith never did. Pete wrote the music of the WHO, and Keith was a soloist. He let it really crack. That's the way it was Bonham & Baker went to their music with their tact the same direction.
But also only because Pete Townshend pretended the rhythm. Townshend recently said it was not easy to play with Keith & John and he always made sure to keep the rhythm. He also said that he still misses both today.
I don't know but I've watched this concert uncountable times, and now I realized that in 11:09 Keith also "sings" (more like wails) with the rest of the band and it made me laugh to burst tears dear god... 😂 Also here you can clearly read his "My Name Is Brandy" badge! thank you so much for uploading this! stunning sound and quality!
@@RockmasterVideos Isn't she though? She's only now learning to read music! And she's learning to speak English! If you haven't already seen it, look up the video of Robert Plant watching her.😎✌️
@@RockmasterVideos You're welcome! I found someone else you might want to check out on RU-vid. She's a blues Guitar named Samantha Fish. Start with the song (I put a spell on you) Enjoy! 😎✌️
LoL, I agree. It was Summertime, might be a bit more acceptable if it was Halloween during the concert. Pete looks like he's ready to paint a living room with those Painter/ Milkman coveralls he's sporting.
Rockmaster Best part of this concert is when he first addressed the crowd. “Sit down, stand up, sit down, stand up. When we do festivals we like our audience FIT.”
Thanks again for that, I didn't know what Pete was saying there either...LoL, maybe this 60 yr. old Rocker needs to get my hearing checked. Rock - n - Roll !
Seen The Who mid- seventies in Cincinnati, tour before the tragedy, with Keith Moon, best concert i ever seen, and I've seen the real Big 4, Who, Led Zeppelin, Stones, Pink Floyd.
100 % agree Textbooks Watchlist. Moon is still (always will be) the best I've seen/heard on drums. Yes, Bonham was awesome & Buddy Rich was a great jazz drummer but Keith Moon was an extension of a drum kit. Glad this concert video is getting many views & likes........so anyone who has never seen them Live can appreciate the incredible sound of The Who !
stringtension But without Moon would The Who been The Who? It’s symbiotic. Moon was actually a terrible drummer in terms of technique/timekeeping, but if they’d had a ‘normal’ drummer (and bassist) would Pete’s songs have reached the audience they did. The sheer number of comments on Who vids from people who are here primarily to watch Moon suggests maybe not. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Brilliant analogy Ian Freud, no doubt Pete was the primary songwriter but my oldest Son was fixated on Moon drumming the 1st time he watched this DVD.....as was I.
Rockmaster, there are plenty of better jazz drummers than Buddy Rich. Alvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Jo Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Art Blakey just to name a handful that were arguable more musical drummers with more notable discographies. Rich was a massive ego, he was a performer and he did his Schtick in Carson. He was a great showman but so was someone like Jo Jones. Mentioning Rich as the poster boy as the standard bearer of jazz drummers, no thanks, too cliche.
Greetings from Arkansas I was 6 yrs old when this took place if the year is correct...good looking band they were legends the dont make music and people like this anymore God bless them and there families
Thank You Anna ! Yes, I have made several tribute videos to The Who.....still listen to them several times a week. I used to live in Arkansas, north of Little Rock in Jacksonville in the 1960's. Arkansas is Cool !

Anyone who likes this cut, go find the entire concert on DVD. Live at the Isle of Wight. It is one of the most amazing rock concerts I’ve seen. Get some brews and whatever else , kick the wife out for a couple of hours and PLAY LOUD!
Is there a more glorious noise than an SG through a HiWatt stack !!?? See also Young Man Blues from the same concert !! Gives me chills. You're a monster Pete !!
@@RockmasterVideos I believe you are right. I would imagine the decibels are a little lower as well. No matter, he's still one of the greats in my books.
Cool, I was only 10 myself. Nothing can compare to the incerdible rock concerts of the past.......my opinion of course. Amazing concert to have been at.
He asked to join, Paul was like, no we're good. He almost joined Led Zeppelin. Page and Beck tried to steal him from the Who. They did one track called Beck's Bolero. Pete was LIVID when he found out. He didn't let Moon jam with other bands.
That bitchslap Townsend laid on Moon at 1:06 😂 Surprised Moon didn't retaliate. Maybe too stoned. John is so damn stoic, like his feet are glued into position.
The 2004 or whenever it was remaster is horribly edited. I am not sure if this is whet it is or not. The original 1970's film is quite good but obviously it is of 1970's film quality. Epic concert all around. One of The Who's top 4 or 5 with the original line-up
LoL...Awesome my Friend ! You were so right last night when You wrote that it's Impossible to keep your eyes off Keith in this song. He was a Powerhouse on those Drums !
@@RockmasterVideos It's like you fall into a spell... You just can't avoid to look at him. You can tell that the same thing happened to the cameraman. He was filming Keith A LOT!! ❤️
