Welcome to what we people who are are in our 60s and 70s grew up listening to. And this was just one of so many different Bands in this era. Rolling Stones, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and on and on. We were spoiled man. There is nothing like it these days. The super band era is over with, but like good classic movies, Classic Rock, is forever here on vinyl and digital recording. There is an endless supply of music from the mid 1960s to about 1983, that is what's known as "The Classic Rock" era. Thanks fellas

About Keith Moon, I've seen some interviews with Pete where he joked that he was more of rhythm guitarist rather than lead because Moon's drumming drove all the songs while he and Entwistle tried to keep the songs from spinning off into the orbit caused by Moon's gravitational pull.
@crazyelf62
@crazyelf62 3 года назад
The last half of this song is like a freight train that seems like it is gonna derail at any minute, but they keep somehow keep it on the track. One of their best. Keith Moon was a crazed drummer as well as a crazed person, spent his whole short life that way.
@chrishopkins4962

I was lucky enough to see the Who 4 times before either Moon or Entwistle passed away. Moon had a drum kit with about 50 cymbals in it and he had them moving all at the same time. He was beyond incredible. Entwistle was, rightfully named the most significant bass player of the 20th century because of not only his playing, but string designs as well.

"What was Keith Moon on?" As I understand it, pretty much everything, but especially alcohol. Man never met restraint in his life. I've seen the Who twice, once with all members alive in my lifetime and once shortly after John Entwistle died. The first tour was specifically 'all of Quadrophenia,' which they needed a ~20-piece orchestra to do live. Their go-to drummer from that tour onward, Zak Starkey, is Ringo Starr's son, for added musical trivia. All of Who's Next and Quadrophenia are worth diving into.
@ChrisHyde537

I saw them 11 times while Keith was alive. I didn’t cry over Jim, Janis or Jimi but I wept when Keith died because my favorite band was no more. When John Bonham died it wasn’t the same. Keith and John were monsters of their craft but Keith was the unpredictable loon who was likely to do anything. He pulled down the back of his pants to show us his Union Jack undies at one concert. He’d knock over stands accidentally from pure frenzy and then intentionally to wind up some shows.
@foxchasejrt1

It's said Keith Moon would take any drug offered him, by the handful. Ironically he died from an overdose of the medication given to alcoholics to stop drinking. He had been clean for a short bit but went to a party and indulged. After, at home he took a mass of the medication to stop the craving. It slowed his breathing & stopped his heart. Such a tragedy, he was one of the best drummers in rock n roll.

Let's put a finer point on this. "Won't Get Fooled Again" is objectively the greatest rock song of all time. If there are more than 3 other rivals for that title, I'd be stunned. It's pure genius. Even its theme -- rebellion and question authority -- totally reflects the spirit of rock and roll. When Ryan luke-warmly said "I like it," I was almost offended!

A Millennial hearing this song for the first time might have a hard time, on first reaction, appreciating its greatness. They ended their song with Keith Moon (who had brought some dynomite and put it in his bass drum) exploding the entire set! Andy and Alex have a RU-vid show that features the crazy things that Keith Moon did during their tours. I'm surprised that he lived through a few of them! "Their beards have all grown longer overnight" (the dramatic change in the look of the band. Beards to call attention away from Paul's changed face). Apparently, there are clues outside the Beatle's Lps. Just thought it was interesting.

For Won't Get Fooled Again, arguably the greatest rock song ever, the lyrics are still relevant today and are as important as the amazing music. It's a straight rocker that is serious social commentary. The variable sound level keyboard solo is so mesmerizing. The story goes, Jimmy Page played a tape for Keith Moon of a new band he was putting together. It's said that Moon listened to it and Page asked him, "What do you think?" Moon was less than impressed and replied, "You guys are going to go over like a lead zeppelin."

I honestly think The Who are the best four-piece ever. Whose next is probably the best album but you also need to listen to Love Rain O're me

Funny you say about Daltrey sounding "British". I thought he's singing with an American twang 😉

When they tour, often it is ZAK STARKEY on drums. (He's Ringo Star's son if you didn't know)

Omg, "it's like Star Wars!" ... that one had me, lol. I kinda see it a bit like a reaction to songs like 'Revolution' (The Beatles) and 'Street Fighting Man' (The Rolling Stones)... a bit of the same vibe or a confirmation of that. From "We don't get fooled again... BUT when you talk about destruction, don't you know that you can count me out" or "We don't get fooled again... BUT what can a poor boy do except to sing for a rock 'n' roll band" to "We don't get fooled again... BUT when you meet the new boss... he's the same as the old boss." Those 1960s hopes for a real change... but... how? by whom? for what reason? will anything really change at all? (Apologies, just blabbering...)
