Let me tell you, in person, it sounds even better than this!!! He got SOO good doing the raspy BJ voice and his singing voice is amazing. His energy is everything too. I can def tell he changed his delivery + improved. The whole touring cast is absolutely amazing. Wonderful performers. I saw them in Detroit just this Sunday and it’s my first in person Broadway musical. I had the best time. Smiles the whole time. Justin and everyone casted is so awesome.
it’s always nerve wracking hearing a new take from someone on a character who you’ve known and loved for so long, but i think justin absolutely killed this!! it’s very different from alex’s bj as well as will’s and andrew kober’s, but i think it’s such a good mix of all of them. super excited to see the tour cast live!!
agreed! I have so much respect for Justin and so many other actors who have to fill in the shoes of these well-loved characters. I love how they include their own take on the characters and make it their own instead of trying to imitate the people who originate their roles. (I'm not really the best with words so I hope I'm getting my idea across 😅)
Yea, Justin's awesome. I've seen him three times now and they've been fiddling with some details of the tour and maybe he's playing with things as well but they've all been great.
Alex seems able to do the gravely Beetlejuice voice more consistently, but Justin puts more color and flavor in it when he's not growling the lines. I like the variation. There's even a Japanese cast now where they got some handsome j-pop guy to play Beej, and he puts his own special handsome-guy menace into the role.
Justin is really following Alex’s footsteps. He was the last Dewey Finn for Broadway _School of Rock_ before it made way for _Beetlejuice._ Now he’s the ghost with the most.
One of the little adjustments made for a touring stage is that instead of popping out of the floor, the ukelele is thrown by a cast member over the coffin to him twice in a row. In the sense that they nail that show after show it's almost more impressive.
Saw him last night, he was AMAZING! There sometimes I found him similar to Alex, but also sometimes he sounded like the movie! His personal twist was phenomenal!
@@MortalHuman I saw him March 1st, and trust me, it was AMAZING!! I got chills! Don’t worry, the whole cast is so good! Some characters stand out as being very similar to the original cast too, you will not regret it! Wish I could go see it again!
I actually really enjoy his energy! He has his own vibe for Beetlejuice and I'm all for it.I can understand why some people feel a kitty weary but I'm excited to see them all live, next year :) I've always been a fan of seeing peoples different takes on the same character
I saw him and the rest of the cast live March 2nd in Greenville, and he was amazing! Especially in the second half, he was NAILING that voice and sounded EXTREMELY similar to Alex! That whole cast was so talented, and they were all perfect for the role!
Going to see him on stage this Saturday in Washington DC at the National Theater and can't to see it again. Saw the original production last October and really loved Alex's energy as the ghost himself
I saw him tonight in this role, and he was honestly perfect! They did a great job casting him, and he’s a funny person outside of the role too! I got to meet him and he was stoked to see a kid in a costume of him.
He sounds great! Thank you for posting this. I'm deciding if I should see it in Detroit. It's weird they couldn't get the giant snake; it feels so key.
In sleep he sang to me In dreams he came That voice which calls to me And speaks my name And do I dream again For Now I Find The Phantom Of The Opera Is there Inside my mind
So glad to hear he sound so good. I saw Alex on Broadway and he was incredible. I'm taking my mom to the touring production this fall and sounds like he does great!
@@BBJActor respectable opinion, I beg to differ but both seriously are amazing actors at the role and we should be happy and appreciative that we have such gifted performers 😎
It’s a special voice trick that anyone can do! Alex used the cartilage in his throat to make the voice, not his vocal chords. You do the same thing when you clear your throat. Alex just figured out how to sing while doing it😂
@@nicholasnorris3210 I'm pretty sure its very well documented that its not a trick. Doctors themselves have confirmed that Alex has a special ventricular fold that he uses to perform with the voice as naturally as he breathes. Its a very rare case as mentioned by Alex himself MANY many times.
Did they get rid of the sand snake reveal during this number? I know from videos of curtain calls that the tour snake is a bit different and comes through the front door, so i’m curious how they did the scene with Juno at the end/if that’s the only actual appearance of the snake.
Yeah, they did. The sandworm still ate Juno, but she still came through the door like in the curtain call. I believe since there wasn't any house for the sandworm to come out of in this part, they just left it out, but tbh I don't really know...
@@solles3439 So in the first SF performance they projected a sandworm on the backdrop during this song during there's a giant snake here. By the time I saw it again during Nevada's shows it was gone and it was still gone for the final show. They made a LOT of tweaks over the SF run so I guess they felt like the projection didn't really work.
I saw the performance on March 1st, and the sand worm wasn’t in the whole being dead thing but did appear later on in the show, coming through the door and also when Beetlejuice got to ride it!
I saw this on Broadway in September. I just bought tix for the tour. I hope it's as good. This song gives me hope. If anyone has seen the traveling show let me know. Did you love it??!!!!
I don't know if you saw it already but I'll give you my opinion anyway. It. Was. Amazing!!! The cast was great and the enthusiasm from the audience was awesome! My parents didn't like it that much though. They thought the Broadway version was better.
I saw this version completely blind the other night without having ever seen anything from the Broadway show and it was genuinely the most fun I've had at the theatre ever. To be fair I'm not much of a theatre kid to begin with, but still. This guy killed. And to be honest, it's probably the bias of having seen him first, but from what I've seen I think I prefer him over the Alex guy, no shade intended
The Sandworm doesn't make an entrance in thos scene. Don't worry. It is still in the show. Just it only appears in the doors of the house in the later scenes.
Justin and Isabella need to have a cast recording I saw them they were amazing. They sound so much better in person glad I saw Justin not Alex Justin was way funnier saw him at bushnell in ct
@@isekai_neo Yeah just glad I seen this before I bought tickets, I was just about to go see one of the shows but I think I will just settle for the alex soundtracks
@@timetraveler9218 a different beetlejuice voice shouldn't stop you from getting tickets. go see the show! the whole experience is better than just the soundtracks 👍
@@timetraveler9218 Honestly, I still highly recommend getting the tickets! Watching the whole show totally outweighs one person sounding different. You most likely won't even mind when watching it in person :D
I don’t think Alex will ever perform as BJ again so you gotta be sure if you’re fine with never seeing the show (there might just be this one tour for a while) at all. I highly recommend going anyway 😊
He is singing but the thing about the whole being dead thing I think is the soloist Isn’t actually singing very much more like delivering lines in a sing-song talking way
@@gumdropthedutchie9012 facts, which is why I love it so much, the only part where you really have to sing is the swing part/jazzy bit(I call it the Sinatra part 2:15) but that part is truly just sheer singjng which also can kill a lot of people but he handle it pretty well
