Excellent video! Very immersive. My mother's cousin flew the Starfighter. In July 1971 his plane went down in Beiarn, Norway. Luckily, he narrowly escaped by ejecting from the aircraft. One very strange little fact about this incident; during the ejection, he lost his wedding ring. Amazingly, this was later found by a group of soldiers approximately 200 metres away from the wreckage. I know this sounds like a tall tale, but it has been confirmed by several sources.

Thanks very much RG, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! Haha, well lucky him (in more ways than one)! Amazing how these things happen sometimes. Good job it was only the ring that came off and not the finger!! That’s an awesome wedding ring though; it’s probably been through Mach 2 and been subject to an ejection - I hope they keep it in the family! Thanks very much for sharing the story. Much appreciated and all the best : )

Reminds me of when I used to work (civilian) at CFB Baden-Soellingen. Before the transition to the Hornet, techs used to work overnight on the CF-104. It wasn't unusual to hear the tests from the engine bay at 2am just nudging up to afterburner.

Another great video realisation from ITBS! Really enjoyed the scenery and the realism as well as the usual following of procedures. You must have a secret to know where all the switches are... Many thanks once again, Cyril! I’m really glad you enjoyed it : ) Haha, well it usually takes a little bit of time to get familiar with each aircraft and then a couple of practice attempts ahead of time. Fortunately, once I’ve learnt my way through an aircraft, whilst I tend to forget things pretty quickly thereafter haha (due to the sheer volume of addons I look at), it’s usually quite quick to “re-learn” an aircraft when I revisit it again later on. Happy flying and all the best!

A rather good showcase for the capabilities of the Starfighter, which does not get much notice in the U.S. since our Air Force really didn’t like it. Another plane that carried the stigma of early issues long after they had been corrected. The German Navy actually repurposed them as patrol/attack planes for the Baltic, completely at odds for the designed role of high-altitude interceptor but it is the plane they got and versatile enough to be adapted to the mission they had. You do make a canyon run look easier than it actually is.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Thanks very much OG, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Is that so? I didn’t realise that the Starfighter had somewhat faded into obscurity in the US, that’s a real shame if so. As you say, the aircraft ended up being used all over the world, in all sorts of roles and I think is undisputedly, a pretty cool piece of engineering / design. Haha, I tried my best. I think Sim Skunk Works have done a very nice job with the flight model, in as much as the Starfighter is a lovely aircraft to fly, until it isn’t haha. Cheers, all the best! : )

@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
I was actually recently trying to find the answer to that exact question myself, Roger. I seem to recall reading a long while ago, that at least one of those ports, essentially allows more airflow into the engine during high thrust / low speed operations (and therefore helps prevent stalling / surging). I haven’t been able to find anything to (re)confirm that thought and despite spending a couple of hours looking, I haven’t been able to figure out exactly what each inlet does I’m afraid. Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. If you ever manage to find out, please do let me know! All the best : )

Still waiting for the starfighter to get to the Xbox. At this point, with wasam support and a score of pc aircraft coming to Xbox, I'm starting to worry just a tad. I'm the meantime I'm really looking forward to the avro Vulcan by justfight, and the recently delayed Tornado by Indiafoxtecho. Then i also heard the XB-70 started development, and I've just got word that the flying iron BF-109 is looking for a June 14th release window, with the marketplace version in the following weeks. I've actually set aside funds for that one for day one. I've even heard they spoke with THE Walter Eichhorn for valuable insights to the type. If memory recalls, Walter has over 300 hours with the BF-109, and has experience flying a range of commercial aircraft ranging from the JU-52 (which I recently got) to Modern airliners like the Boeing 737. He even takes his Extra 350 out daily at the ripe old age of 86, with I think is downright incredible.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Hi DL, I am surprised that SSW haven’t ported the Starfighter over to the console, given that the WASM issues have now been fixed up. The only thing I can think of; the aircraft does use some external applications on the PC (though not for anything fundamental, so far as I am aware), so perhaps that is what’s preventing them from offering their addons on the Xbox (otherwise, I’m sure they’d love to increase their market reach!). Not ideal but as you say, there are plenty of quality addons slated for release on both platforms, in the not-too-distant future. Thanks for the heads up on the BF-109 by the way! I had no idea it was due to be released so soon, so I started keeping a look out for it once I saw your message haha. As ever, FlyingIron did a wonderful job with the aircraft. @IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Not sure on that one, Dan. Parachutes are technically feasible in MSFS (the FSReborn Sting S4 has a ballistic parachute), but I doubt the sim currently has the capability to switch focus and model the player / seat (in the even of an ejection), whilst still modelling the aircraft and its flightpath also. I’m by no means an expert when it comes to these sorts of things though haha. Cheers, all the best! : )

Does the F104 require an external flight model?
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Good question, MiGMan. I’m not 100% sure, to be honest. Certainly, in previous sims, SSW products did use external programs to support moving maps, terrain radar, PHI navigation etc. I would presume the same is true within MSFS (since the sim doesn’t support some of these features natively). I don’t recall hearing that the flight model is an external program, but given some of the peculiar F-104 behaviours that are modelled (the boundary layer control system being a prime example), it would rather lead me to believe that perhaps SSW have gone down that route. Sorry I can’t offer up anything more concrete on the subject. Cheers once again : )

Cheers Clemens, glad you enjoyed it. My graphical settings on this machine (I just brought a new PC) were broadly as such: - “High End” preset - Pre-Cache = Ultra - Terrain and Object visibility sliders set at 125% (sorry, I forget the actual names of them) - Motion Blur = Off - Glass Cockpit Refresh = Medium - AI Traffic = Off - VSync = On / 60fps That gives a nice balance between graphical fidelity and performance. I only run at 1080p, hence the decent FPS / smooth performance. The things I’ve turned off / down are known to be famerate hogs. I also spend a lot of time tweaking the weather / lighting in my videos, which accounts for much of the graphical fidelity, as that can make a huge different to how the sim looks overall. The intro and outro scenes were recorded on my new PC, essentially using Ultra settings, hence why they perhaps look better than you might otherwise expect. I hope that helps a little! Is the poor quality in the outside view videos (when the aircraft moving) due to your recording or is youtube knocking quality down of 1080 and wanting us to pay for premium to watch a video in actual 1080? because without premium they're are seriously knocking a lot of quality out of 1080 res videos if your recording didn't reduce bitrate. I expect this is the case as the in cockpit video looks lovely as does the external video on engine start up. Boo to youtube!!
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations Год назад
Hello Paul, I think it’s a little bit of both, to be fair. A small amount of quality is lost during recording (negligible) and then there is some reduction during editing / processing also.
