Hey hi thanks for watching me shuffle around in my living room for 20 minutes, here's a video about the Red Steel games because Red Steel is one of the coolest games ever: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZfNgkhmPPsc.htmlsi=pOEjBQloi0rG3EzL
Honestly, the shambling on the balance board stumbling around ghosts while trembling with a shaky wiimote flashlight is a visceral type of horror for a console like the Wii. This is genius
It's funny to see your comment here because every time I watch one of your videos I think of one of his and every time I think of one of his I think of one of yours
I remember a Wii horror game called ''The Calling'' using the wiimotes speaker to ''talk'' to you. (usually when you interact with phones in the game.)
Yeah! I remember Pewdiepie playing it (and this one). I was so scared of the new videos but it was also like watching a slow mo car wreck because I couldn’t stop watching them
Uhm, ackshually, it's just "Calling" there's no "the" 🤓 But yeah, the game's pretty neat; along with the wiimote speaker being used for calls, it has some nice scares that aren't funny jumpscares - with one using the message board, if I recall I recommend looking at NitroRad's video on the game
@@ParadigmRiki ...You're right! I must've confused it with somehting else, as the ''The'' is in a lot of generic horror titles. It has been like 10 years (or a bit more) ago since i watched Pewds' playthrough of it, so it has been quite a while. I didn't know Nitro Rad also did a video on it, i must've missed it.
My japanese wife peered over at my phone while watching this video and said "that looks like... Oh no no no no no im not watching that". I guess shes played it before 🤣
@@BillyAltDel i don't think it's being developed on anymore, but this game does work pretty well on it once you play around with the settings for a bit
Haha. He's shown himself lots before. But I feel like he aged about 15 years since the last time I saw him on camera. It must have been that Shakespeare game making him all introspective or something.
im on a mission to look as wildly different as possible for every appearance (also my hair has darkened a lot on its own which is apparently a thing that can happen, it was def a lot lighter a brown when i first got on camera)
Funny enough, Square did have some involvement with the game on the development side of things and even brought some of the staff to work on this game. 👀
The sequence at 11:30 is one of the scariest things I've ever seen in a horror game. The spooky painting into the blatant "I'LL HAUNT YOU NOW" to the jumpscare face that looks like a glitch is just the perfect combination of spooks timed so well.
Thank you for this video, and for giving my work such exposure! I hope you liked the game and the patch despite of their flaws (I'm French, and I had to deal with very limited room for the translation, hence the sentences being so short or cryptic sometimes). I really enjoyed doing this one, and hope people will get access to a pretty funny "horror house" game, as you described. Yours truly.
it is interesting how many "haunted house simulator" type games the Wii got, I know there were a shocking amount of Japanese Wii horror games in that vein, but even the Grudge game ended up with a western release.
4:17 i think the brightly colored models are a homage to what a lot of 90s console visual novels looked like. Look up footage of the Kamaitachi no Yoru series to see what i mean.
If you combined all of the features of both games, would the collective experience be better or worse? On one hand Night of the Sacrifice needed some depth and a better story but I feel like the added mechanical weight would be too much to handle...
The real horror on the wii balance board was the one where you sit still in that dark room so that the candle doesn't blow out on Wii Fit. I still remember it vividly
Sounds a lot like the kind of controls many non-action VR games have. Interesting to see these controls ahout a decade before they would take off in a very different yey quite similar context.
I have a Kat Walk C VR treadmill, and I can confirm-physically walking in a game instead of using an analogue stick is wild. It makes you think about the game world in a completely different way, as now you have to factor in your own stamina when thinking about how you’ll get somewhere.
What games would you say benefit from this? I’m legit curious because, due to how uncommon Kat Walks are, I can’t imagine any games have been designed with it in mind.
Someday I might break out the ol’ Balance Board & try this! The footage reminds me of running away from something scary in a dream - feeling like you’re moving fast and yet going nowhere at all. People have already mentioned that a VR version would be cool, but I wonder about a Switch version? The Ring Fit leg strap could be a workable replacement for the Balance Board
If youre a fan of the Wii first-person mechanics you should check out Elebits (known as Eledees in PAL terriories I believe). Its a charming little house exploration puzzle shooter using those controls. Love the vid as usual and love seeing the creativity using weird peripherals!
Stoked to see a video about this game. I've had a little miniature project on MobyGames of trying to fill out every page for the game director Hiroyuki Itou, and being the lead game designer on this was one of his projects before directing NEO TWEWY. I've been working with a mod there to try and get my submitted credits approved for a while - anyways! Good game! Edit: oh, another fun fact about this game that I found while digging through the credits. The soundtrack is composed by Masayoshi Soken, AKA the Final Fantasy XIV composer!
criminally underrated video 😁I think my favorite kind of people are those who translate and patch really obscure games. like ??? this is just a side project for you? Amazing
This ghost design makes me ask; is this game related in anyway with the two DS games Nanashi no Game and Nanashi no Game: Me? The devs are different but the ghosts look the utter same!
I find interesting how good Wii games look to me now. They don't look all thar far from PS3/360 games and, in some case, they look better than many PS3/360 games. Some games of that era used too much bloom light, low quality depth of field or other effects that just makes them look disgusting today.
Hey minimme I just wanted to let you know I think your mustache fits you very nice, reminds me of Eddy Burback a little. It is your choice to keep it and we respect you for that. Idk why I felt the need to tell you this, no reason really at all.
Great review, cool game, didn't know it existed and it's a nice concept. Maybe in like 10 years we'll look at it as some kinda mega pioneer along with PT, when a movement based horror game for VR comes along I would've probably shat my pants playing i'm ngl, even with your chill commentary i got jumpscared a couple times just watching lol
This is the reason why I cannot forgive Nintendo on how they treat the Wii in North America. So I do not get why people love Reggie when he was responsible for only caring about family shovelware instead great games from different genres.
I remember seeing this game on some websites when it was revealed and even watched a full playthrough of it back in the day! Glad to see Ikenie no Yoru getting some attention thanks to you! 👀 Also, fun fact! Square Enix did work on this game as a support team for Marvelous! Wikipedia confirms it as some of the peeps from SE such as Tomoya Asano, Takashi Tokita and Masayoshi Soken worked on the game.
this might get lost in the comment section but I hope you get to review The Saboteur one day. Especially cus of your liking to the Mercenaries franchise and the fact that it's Pandemic Studio's Final Game before their unfortunate closure,I feel like you're be the perfect reviewer to cover an underrated game like that.
@@expendableindigo9639 oh damn really... that's unfortunate :/ Explains why there is no video for it. Edit:- yep found it,he didnt love it surprisingly and unfortunately.Welp,at least my question is answered .
I hope you and big j are doing well and are very happy together. (This comment brought to you by me originally thinking he was talking about his actual partner irl for a second.)
This actually seems pretty good. Also, I'm amused by the fact that you no longer trust your own standards lol. Well, if it helps, I think your impressions are correct here.
Novelty does indeed seem like the ideal description for this game, not necessarily in a negative way though. With how many Wii games had tacked on or gimmicky motion controls I think it's really commendable that they designed a whole game around them in a creative way and that it turned out actually pretty solid. Like other commenters said it's basically a VR game with no headset making full use of the Wii accessories, I agree it's pretty genius. If the game was bad it would have come off as kind of a gimmick itself but it seems like the concept is done justice. I'm glad something like this exists. That being said I imagine the extra fanservice scenes are probably really awkward if you followed the whole "name the cast after your friends" thing.
I wish alot of these horror wii games get released or remastered and get improved, if it's on pc or modern consoles, and able to play it on gamepad, mouse and keyboard, and a optional vr headset. (The Grudge game, Calling, etc, etc,)
Looks like an interesting horror game. Probably the best game on the Wii balance board. It's a shame it was never released in the US or UK. Good video.
The unusual motion mechanic made me think a bit about 'the nameless game' for DS, that used the touch screen to make you take steps and move awkwardly around. Not sure why, might just be because i saw a video about that game recently haha.
I thought it's going to be a video on Calling (another Wii horror game), but parts remind me of Ju-On: The Grudge, it was a bit clunky but hooked me for a couple of weeks. Those transparent ghostly figures reminded me of Echo Night: Beyond on PS2. Have you played that game? It's pretty good, I recommend wholeheartedly! I know Marvelous Entertainment for publishing Deadly Premonition and No More Heroes. Seeing weird, obscure but interesting JP only games hurts because I want to play them but I don't have a cracked system nor a Japanese console :(
I somehow found an english translation of this, took like 2 hours to get it all set up on Dolphin and quit out of fear in the first level. I did a full playthrough of it, oldest videos on my channel.
It's pretty interesting to see a Wii horror game where you use the Wii Fit board to play this Japanese exclusive. It's both an exercise and motion control horror experience. America really miss this opportunity to play Ikenie no Yoru.
Have you ever heard of “Calling” for Wii? I used to be obsessed with it as a kid (cosplay, fanart, etc) and I feel like no one’s heard of it. The graphics and control style of this game remind me so much of it. Ghosts call your cellphone in game and it plays through the wiimote speaker. I used to think it was soooo creepy. I was about to infodump and make this comment 10 times longer but just know there are so many interesting things to find and while it’s not the best horror it’s a very interesting game.
Shaun White Snowboarding was my balance board game, there were too few games that took advantage of the controller! Also, Red Steel is one of the few games I had and am glad a few others saw the rare game qualities beneath all the jank.
of all the most interesting japan only Wii games we don't get a localization for but yet we ended up getting corny ass Ju-on (The Grudge) Wii game instead i'll never understand...
Woah Woah Woah hold on, this game actually came out, I remember seeing a couple of pics on Club Nintendo from Mexico on the 06 E3 Issue and never hearig about it ever again, did not know it was released
What a weird concept, is this the only real balance board game that’s an actual game? I’d love to see something else like it, I guess these days VR would just be an easier option. I’d kill for a horror game that uses the Ring Fit ring
I didnt know this existed. I don't think anyone did, actually! Seems like something RU-vidrs would've jumped on back in the day when gimmicky horror games were super popular
I disagree about the whole "Why are your friends' models so colorful? They don't fit with the rest of the game." I think that's the point. Your friends look colorful to lure you into a false sense of security about the rest of the game's art style, but actually, everything else looks nothing like them.
I love that games don’t have to have good graphics to be enjoyed . I feel like many people would simply look at games like these and decide it’s not good.
The wii has so much good horror games for it!! Night of Sacrifice, Calling, Ju-On, fatal frame 2 and 4, Cursed Mountain, Silent Hill and so much more!❤❤ I love them all.
I would’ve played the crap out of this. However nentindo had publishing rights for some reason during this time for the fatal frame series and refused to allow more games to be made or ported over because “horror has no place in nentndo outside of Japan” at the time for real they said that. While publishing other horror that sold well and many NA and EU markets would’ve gobbled up. and we’ve not seen fatal frame come back from this). I’ve still not forgiven them.
I never knew anything other than Wii Fit using the balance board, but this is awesome! I don't normally play scary games, but I love watching others play it. I feel like they're brave, and that makes me feel safer somehow, lol.
I remember bringing something like this up in relation to the Power Pad and having someone just harshly reject the idea outright like moving one's legs is just too much work for gaming heh. This motivates me to try out the Wii homebrew scene, just looking up Nintendo console region locks and happy to see at least a few people have been petitioning against them. I don't know who or how many "bad people" they stopped with region coding but I find it damn inconvenient Ie. Can't buy a legitimate copy, and then play a legitimate copy. Just begging for hackers frankly.😒
02:41 As someone who had played Harvest Moon: Back to Nature at 2 in the morning blind without guide and with all the weird urban legends living rent-free in my then-underdeveloped brain, I can say that it's not that much of a difference tbh
every time you appear on camera you have a completely different look, yet you still look exactly like the kinda guy to enjoy obscure, kinda jank wii games in an arthouse way
