Another DreamWorks masterpiece! The cast and characters are perfect, it's not afraid to show nature being as cruel as it is beautiful, and the emotional beats hit so hard. The scene where Brightbill leaves on migration and Roz catches his feather had me tearing up.

I would argue that while Vontra *maybe* could've been introduced earlier, she's still necessary to the plot. Why else would Roz realize she has to return to civilization for the good of the island? A little screentime as she got, she's still an effective and pretty menacing villain. If that's how the book did it, I can't complain.

Vontra is not in the book. The book doesn't have a central villain
@Alejandroigarabide

As Tamatoa, the Queen of Hearts or Madame Mim have shown, you don't need a lot of screentime to be a good villain. However, if she was the one who "did that thing during the migration" it would have been awesome. Perhaps she could even have been introduced in the ad video for the Rossums (like Auto in Wall-E).

Can't believe this is Dreamworks' final movie made inside of their Glendale facility, because it honestly feels like the grand finale of the whole studio. Almost the entire animation staff is gone and their business model is going in a similar direction to Sony animation or Illumination, but the work they did on the wild robot is truly fantastic!!! It proves they can create good movies without executive meddling. Therefore, I just hope this film becomes a major contender during award season, no other film can top it!!!

So with your complaint about Vontra. In the first book the evil robots are actually introduced pretty late in the book. I’d definitely recommend check out the books. I’ve only read the first one at the moment, but I love it and adore this movie. Idk if Vontra is in the sequel books or not, but I’d definitely recommend the first book, and maybe watch this again after reading.
@elconferencistaaspergeraut3806
2024 wasn't the best year for DreamWorks, and I'd dare to say even Disney had a bit little more luck with the likes of Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes or the Inside-Out sequel. However, I'm glad this movie came out to see the light. Instead of being another disappointing sequel, it showed that DreamWorks can be mature, heartwarming and reflexive, and not just clinging to comedy all the time like they have been doing. If it wouldn't be just the HTTYD movies, I just hope DreamWorks can start making movies like this one. Now, the next animated film I will watch before the year end, will be Flow. The one about a black cat who, alongside a crew of different type of animals, must survive in a post-apocyliptic world.

I haven’t seen the movie yet because it and Transformers One don’t come out until later in October in the UK, but still super excited for both. This film just proves that not every animated film has to have major depth and complex lore and character arcs like Spiderverse of Prince of Egypt to be amazing. It can just be a very simple movie about simple characters and themes and still be super charming and endearing. (If I’m being honest I actually kinda prefer more simpler heartfelt stories than big complex ones.) A lot of people have compared Roz’s journey to that of WALL-E and the Iron Giant and since those just so happen to be two of my favourite films of all time, I think this film will be right up my alley. The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the animation community inevitably corrupting this with toxic positivity like Spiderverse and Last wish where people will just use this to attack other studios like Disney and Illumination or other more simple animated films just for not being on the same level even if said other movies are still good or just okay. Because of this, I am honestly dreading next award season where the community is just going to tear each other apart like they do every year. Regardless of what you feel about those other studios and their recent output, PLEASE don’t use just use this film as a way to insult the other studios, you can compare movies and see how one does something better than the other but don’t just turn it into a big Studio war similar to a console war. I know that the people at DreamWorks and Chris Sanders would NEVER want that.

While I think I still slightly enjoyed Inside Out 2 more overall, granted I’ll need to watch this movie a few more times to more definitively decide which I think is better, this is easily my pick for Best Animated Feature. Not only because I feel like these directors more than deserve that award for their talents already, but because this is what we need more out of animation. I didn't read the books too, but if I wanna be honest? I'm taking Vontra more as a spiritual villain. Where at the end, she's also just doing her job. Taking broken Roz where she belongs. Something Roz is refuses to be now. And she can't really do much about it, because her job is helping others. She doesn't belong here. It makes Vontra's last words more real. Or idk how to describe it properly. (Btw I have to say it, in Czech version, Roz is called something like Sense with two Z's in a middle Instead of S. Or Zenze if you want. But it's still a Unit, so she's still called as Roz at the end of the day)

I don’t think that it is necessary to say whether Puss in Boots or The Wild Robot is better. They are both incredible movies, and both are now my all-favorites. They have completely different tones, and deal with different subjects. Although death is a factor in the Wild Robot, it is not a focus like it is in Puss in Boots. The same in reverse goes for love.
