Big props to Andrew Z for respecting the culture and history of the foods he tries regardless of whether he likes it or not. He may react positively or negatively to the taste but he never ridicules the food he tries and is always gracious to those who share their food with him. I miss this show!
@streamylc
@streamylc Месяц назад
Lol, "he never ridicules".... are we watching the same video? 😂.... what is your definition of "ridicule"? "I respect people eating things that taste like rancid mush", that's not "gracious" IMO. foul, rancid, rotten, repulsive, not edible, horrific? "Thank you so much, you made the only food I've ever tried that I can't eat." This guys reactions are way too over the top, and awkward (hes reacting like my 7 year old nephew does)... I'll keep watching best ever food review show where Sonny actually does respect flavors that are not "normal". What offensive words could he even use (that he didn't already in the video) that you actually WOULD consider offensive? (Oops, he used that word too) Egregious? Evil?

Same, it was the first and only food show I really watched for years. When I went to Ecuador, I tried all the bizarre foods he tried. What a wild experience! Andrew taught me to try new things even if I don’t end up liking them. Even if I’ve experienced ‘sour, rancid aftertaste’, the philosophy itself definitely made the world bigger and more magical for me. If you read this, Andrew, thank you. From the bottom of my heart 🙏🏻
@lovedavantlamour301
@lovedavantlamour301 24 дня назад
This is going to come off confrontational and I apologize for that because I am honestly just genuinely curious ; how does subjecting yourself to essentially frivolous suffering via meaningless boundary pushing give you the sort of appreciation for the world around you you described ?
@StandingBenkei
@StandingBenkei 24 дня назад
@@lovedavantlamour301 None taken 👌🏻 I haven’t explored exotic food quite like Sonny Side, Andrew Zimmern or Anthony Bourdain (RIP), and therefore I don’t have the same spectrum of reasons as they do as to why it’s not meaningless, frivolous or suffering at all to me. The things I end up not enjoying become my understanding of what are some of the staples of different cultures of human beings that may see what I loathe to eat as their ‘mom’s Mac and Cheese’, meanwhile they may revile Mac and cheese the same way. This made me realize how different cultures are and makes me appreciate a glimpse in the form a taste into their world. The things I ended up liking/loving were just as irreplaceable as they are different and I would have never discovered them if I didn’t open myself up to try what I’ve never had. One may say that jungle rat in Vietnam becoming a craved delicacy from a survival diet and how it tastes has nothing to with them halfway around the world, but neither does some of your favorite historical tales or commodities from places just as far. Knowledge is vast and unbiased to preference but having interest definitely helps the pursuit. I’m interested enough to pursue this kind of journey and it’s a win-win for me: either I expand my pallet by finding something else I love to eat, or I’m pleasantly humbled by finding another reason why ‘my’ world isn’t ’the’ world…or both. Beats eating the same can of Dinty Moore all the time so to speak; depressing to eat and even more depressing to find out where it comes from. Hope this helps!
@StandingBenkei
@StandingBenkei 23 дня назад
@@Sqquishy I appreciate the backing and I know you mean well for me 🙏🏻 but if my exchange with lovedavantlamour can make him/her/them consider the same journey further, then that’s one in the win column for people like us 👌🏻 If not and there’s something else that does the job then we hope for the best? @drengr2759
@drengr2759 Месяц назад
There are many different species, and subspecies. I had one which I loved; very pungent, like it would burn your nose hairs out just smelling it from a distance, but the taste was pleasant. I had another, from the same farm but looked and smelled different; it was so foul I couldn't help but gag. I wasn't alone; every one of us were gagging and couldn't finish one bite. The differences in subspecies is wild, and I don't know what to compare it to. I guess there are apples with different flavours, and they are all the same species. Everyone knows the unique sour flavour of a Granny Smith, or the pithy, mealy blandness of a Red "Delicious". Many people would agree that a Honeycrisp would be a more edible option. I guarantee that there is a "normal", globally cultivated variety, and several local varieties that aren't so popular.

Lol, most of the food that Andrew consumes isn't all that bizarre now days. I remember an episode when Andrew was in Vietnam and a family invited him to their house for lunch. He feasted on a bowl of rice, Thit Kho, stir fry veggies and small chop up chicken pieces. There may have also been a soup dish.
