I can't wait to go back and actually find the springs! For anyone in the area, there is a hiking trail up to Horn Spring so you don't have to portage over deadfalls in a kayak to see it!

Interesting spot. Looked pretty but all those portages?! My knees of cheese wouldn't like that.... nor the ticks!!! How did the Oru go? I would have been so worried I would damage the bottom. And did you end up with any ticks?? 😳

The Oru did great actually. I don't see any holes so far. I did a tick check when I got home and I didn't fine any! We have ticks year round so I always check for ticks after being in the woods.

Yeah, I hate ticks too. I have a great tick tool though that removes them completely. I also keep a jar of alcohol to put them in after I remove them. Do you have a preference of the inlet or lake? I like the option of floats in the lake but also want as simple as possible. Also how did the kayak withhold in those conditions of branches everywhere?

I like both. I would probably get the lake if I was to pick between the two. It's easier to put together and a lower price point. I think they both hold up ok to branches. I try to be extremely careful when I kayak. On this trip, I used the inlet and got some scratches on the bottom, but no holes!

@@smkauthor i'm so stuck between the 2. Do you think the float bags in the inlet are a must have and do you think the longer design of the inlet is worth the extra or they are to similar? And as you have more experience with these do you think the lake + is worth the upgrades?

@@smkauthor also, sorry for so many comments. I like the way the inlet has extra protection on the tip front and back....what's your opinion on that where as the lake doesn't have.

For safety, you want to use float bags in either kayak. And a paddle float and bilge pump, especially if you are paddling alone. I think the lake + is probably worth it. But if you are on the fence, you might want to go Inlet. It does have a little bit higher sides and could make you feel a little more secure then the lake.

Hi Steph! Question. When you first put your Lake ORU in the water, did you notice water in the tracks afterwards? Is it normal and if so will it drain out? Thanks.

It's normal for water to get in them. You want to stand it upright or upside down for the water to drain out.
