Believed to be the winter of 1967, Gene McCluney and a friend explore the hill overlooking South U Street and Towson Avenue. Then a big winter snowstorm turns our city into a winter wonderland.
Gene and his father drive up Hendricks Boulevard to buy groceries at Park Plaza shopping center. Then admire the snowy scenery around their home on Gary Street near South T street.
Southside High School in the snow, no classes that day.
In the final scene, Gene and his father, who are alone now, get help with the laundry from Mrs. Artie McKown.

Back in the days when bag boys had to wear shirts and ties. Not like now where they just wear t-shirts and blue jeans. I miss days like these.

If anyone wants to go see that view in the beginning it is still there In fact there's an overlook now and it's right behind the children's hospital or what used to be the children's hospital That's not the only thing that's abandoned there Warning park has become abandoned the fountain no longer works and there is a trail off the overlook to multiple homeless camps But if you're willing to brave it It's one of the best views in Fort Smith and a couple streets out there's another 1 with an amazing view of the river bottoms Not even a quarter mile away from the first Spot

Where was that Kroger store? My mom worked at the one on Phoenix and Jenny Lind for many years. Just wondering if that is the same one.

That Kroger store was across the street from Creekmore Park. In the shopping mall where Sweet Bay coffee is.

Lisa Scrudder never knew about that one! I remember a Green Stamp store being in that center and a dime store!

@@michaeldobbs4734 there was another grocery store there at one time, also. I remember taking my brother to work there when I was real young.

I vaguely remember the Kroger store there, my main memory from there was Lewis' Cafeteria and how I loved to eat there when I was a kid.

@@leandar I loved going there in the late 1970s and 80s, good food. I couldn't remember the name though, thanks. Wyatt's cafeteria in Central Mall was also pretty good.

I'm pretty sure, the house at 7:14 is at Gary and south 41st street, across from Southside.

Great video, I've lived here since 1977 and didn't know that was Kroger grocery across from Creekmore Park. Also at 5:23 the original entrance to Southside High School is unrecognizable here in March of 2022. Beautiful wet snow that day, great idea to go out and film.
