I have the Parsec 0F and I got it for less than half price during a big sale. It’s great for winter but I sleep hot so I like a 40F bag for the 3 other seasons. It’s actually lighter than my summer bag lol. And it’s SUPER comfortable.

Nice score! Yeah I wouldn't use this bag in the summer, but it's a nice fall to spring bag. But yeah, so comfy!

Shug emery RU-vidr turned me on to the Stansport “scissor style” stool. Really light inexpensive and simple. It rests perfectly over the top of my pack without strapping. Easy to take off for breaks along the trail. A few years back they were about $20. I bought three. Makes a good table surface too.

To elaborate on your point about sleeping bags and sleeping pads: the EN standard rested sleeping bags in conjunction with a r5 sleeping pad (iirc), which is higher than most people sleep with. A cheap CCF pad like an accordion knock off can add 2r to a three-season pad for those colder temps. Some fun info for people getting into cold weather camping.

Good review. Thermarest is part of MSR and they have great gear and great customer service. I have a 3 season Western Mountaineering 900 fill down bag that's 7 years old and I love it. it's originally a 30 F. bag that's been factory overstuffed to 20 F. (WM's factory no longer offers this service.) :o( My winter bag is an out-of-production LL Bean -20 F. 750 fill down bag with down that has been treated with a good DWR to keep its loft even when damp. And it WORKS!. I'll NEVER buy another down garment without DWR treated down.

I have used the stansport folding stool on amazon for $19.98. Weighs 19 ozs Slips over pack and is so easy to pull out for breaks. I saw on Shugemery’s channel. I have two. He zip ties around pivot point for insurance. I copied that trick. Used for years. I weigh 210 & its proven its durability

I'm a 3+ season backpacker. I have a Nemo Disco 15 bag (comfort rated 27 deg), Big Agnes SL air mattress (4.2 R-value) and an extra foam sleeping pad (2 R-value). I went backpacking and it got down to 40 deg and I was cold. I have limited funds and can afford 1 bag at this time so I was considering buying a Parsec 0 bag and trading in the Nemo Disco. What are your thoughts? Buy the Parsec 0 vs. buying another better quality 10 deg or 20 deg bag? Thanks!

Hi, Great video thanks! I've just got the Parsec 0° but find the straps don't fit around my 25' wide sleeping pad. Do you know if I they have wider straps or do you just have to squeeze your pad to fit the straps? Doing that looks like it will either damage the pad or bag or both!?

Hey Eric is that an Expedition Copper Spur behind you? Think we’ve seen you with this tent before. If it is do you like it? Looking for a winter tent for Colorado Rockies. We have taken the normal copper spur in to snow season but kinda need solid inner walls and more strength.
@BackpackingTV
@BackpackingTV Год назад
This is the regular version. I really like this tent but not sure how much snow load it could handle. I think you could do it, just would have to be active with cleaning and clearing if it was snowing heavily.
@Squick99
@Squick99 Год назад
Thanks for the video! Why do you say that bag is for non-expedition style backpacking? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm not familiar with the difference. Have you ever used a WM bag? I've always heard those are the gold-standard, but they don't use the water resistant down. I'm sure I can keep the bag from being rained on, but if humidity is high, is that going to kill the warmth after a few days?
@BackpackingTV
@BackpackingTV Год назад
Not a dumb question at all. It's kind of my own term, not necessarily an industry standard. But I'd call an expedition style bag one that would be good for say, crossing Antartica or climbing Everest, some extreme scenario that requires next level gear. While the Parsec is a winter bag, it's not going to be warm enough for those really cold camping, where one might need something like a -20f bag. I haven't used WM but I do hear they are simply the best. I hope to use one in the near future!
@Squick99
@Squick99 Год назад
@@BackpackingTV thanks for the feedback! Definitely no expeditions for me! I did see another channel mention that WM bags have slightly better construction but this bag weighs significantly less and is an exceptional bag. But dang is $500+ hard to justify unless I’m going to use it 20+ nights a year. Thanks for the awesome channel!

@@BackpackingTV 29 years ago I discovered Western Mountaineering at a shop in Bishop, CA. I needed a bag for a quick up and back on Whitney from the Portal. That was back when you didn't need a permit for a "day" hike. I had a fanny pack stuffed with my WM bag, wool sweater, Pemmican bar (yuck), a baggie of trail mix, Potable Aqua, and a 1L water bottle that I carried in my hand. That WM bag has been all over the world, two bike trips across the U.S., and down the Green River four times. It is now finally retired to my summer only bag. Replaced by two new WM bags, a 10deg and 20deg. A true story, I purchased a Marmot model rated to 20 on sale, super sale at REI, it was rated to 20 deg. I spent one frigid night in the desert where I had to get up and pack out at 4am because the Marmot with my regular tent couldn't handle it. Like dangerous. When I returned the Marmot bag to REI, I brought along my 26 year old, at the time, WM bag and threw them both on the floor for the REI clerk to see. My old WM bag lofted more than the brand new Marmot. They returned my money. Then I went straight to Adventure-16 and bought my new WM bag.

Is it safe/possible to use a foam switchback under an inflatable pad to increase effective r-value? I have a Nemo insulated Quasar 3D at 3.3 r-value. I was wondering if I could use it in winter if I got a good switchback to put under it, rather than buying another expensive pad.
@BackpackingTV
@BackpackingTV Год назад
For sure! If you put a foam pad underneath the inflatable mattress it will add about 2r, so you should be effectively over 5 with that system. Save that money!
