Deputy Burrell introduces Lieutenant Daniels to Senator Clay Davis. A defiant Daniels refuses to lay down, much to the annoyance of Clay Davis who twists the thumbscrews on a bewildered Burrell.
RIP Lance Reddick. This was my favorite Lt Daniels scene and he was definitely one of my fave characters. Another great actor from this series gone too soon.
@@carlgustafemilmannerheim5661 Well it isn't over yet, now is it? Let us not forget there are cases being sat on until the day he is no longer President... and only because of this bullshit memo from DOJ suggesting that a sitting President cannot be indicted. He will enjoy no such privilege once he is no longer in office. Whether that is a few more months or 4 more years doesn't matter.
Lance Reddick was so convincing as playing Lieutenant Daniels that he had me thinking he was an actual lieutenant of a police force. Amazing job acting not just by Lance Reddick, but everyone in this scene.
@@Madvillainy48 I heard that somewhere. He's an incredible actor so he probably can pull it off, but I can't imagine it. With his voice and demeanor, he was a perfect fit for a policemen.
The actor playing Clay Davis is tremendous. All of his little idiosyncrasies are the work of a master actor and impressionist. I thought he was one of the best parts of the series.
When he says "You ain't just talkin' to me now, Erv. You talkin to the mayor, the caucus blah blah blah", that line made my BLOOD BOIL. That is REAL politics right there people!!!!!! All in cahoots behind the same sleazy, shady shit!!!
Nah, Obama had plenty of charm, but behind closed doors he authorized so many drone strikes that resulted in so many innocent bystanders killed that an unprecedented number of drone operators had to be treated for PTSD. Even then-General Mattis complained to Obama about how many of the drone strikes seemed to unnecessarily risk the lives of civilians. He was asked to retire because of those complaints.
The actor who plays Clay Davis gave such a great performance as a dirty machine politician that even after 20 years I still come back to watch these videos of him. What a guy.
The actor who played Clay Davis is the same guy who briefly played the doctor who gave a coked up Henry Hill some pills in Goodfellas when the helicopter was chasing Henry around.
You know, if Daniels REEEAAAALLY wanted to hurt Burrell and Clay, he could have just pointed out how FAT and UGLY they both are.....as well how miserable and ugly their wives probably are. He'd probably get fired for it, but those two would probably cry themselves to sleep that night.
@@akshaynatu1084 his point was the daniels could be a lawyer or any other number of careers so he wasn't entirely dependent on being a cop, he had a lot more skills so he wasn't intimated by threats of job loss alone like most other cops.
Akshay Natu then why bring up his law degree anyway that would be wasted dialogue of course the chain of command you’re expected to swallow shit but he can say I’ve had enough fuck this all of my eggs are not stuck in this one career like the rest of you
Akshay Natu he could also be a powerful and rich lawyer at a firm or be DA one day with his experience in law enforcement. So threats don’t mean shit to daniels he’s a G
Johnathon Haney I said never got a real go. In other words he didn’t have time to make any real changes. Plus if iirc, he was acting commissioner and was never actually sworn in for the job.
If anything, The Wire shows that individuals are shaped by their social position and in turn they move up or down based on whether they play by the rules of that position. If they attempt to move out of those bounds (like Stringer, for example), they are crushed by their institutions, because they have committed hubris, by the exact meaning the word has in Ancient Greek. The Wire, after all, is pretty much written like a Greek tragedy, as its creators have shared. So, in short, Daniels couldn't have made Commissioner, because he wasn't meant for it. If he had made it and started cowboying out, he would have been swiftly brought down.
@@Gnomelord0 I don't know that they tolerate them, so much as it's hard to get rid of the Clay Davises of the world for the reasons you see in this scene. Those guys get their hands in so many pockets, and get so many people on the take with them, that being that one person trying to take it all down is almost impossible. It's like dealing with crooked cops. Once that corruption gets so ingrained in everything, it's hard to go against it. You can risk your entire career, possibly getting black-balled from working nearly anywhere, and you might not even make a dent in the process. I think the show touches on this theme in a lot of ways. Thinking of Bunny, he saw a problem, knew that they weren't really fixing it and that politics and them kicking in doors wouldn't do it, so he tried to make his own fix and ended up getting busted down for it.
Definitely up there for me two, for a few reasons. I love how Cedric was quite iffy about this whole case in the beginning, now he's confident and defiant to his superiors here because of what he's uncovered and seen. And, for some reason, I love how Clay flips from calm and cool to ferocious without almost no warning.
Give me a pair of brass knuckles and 30 minutes alone in a soundproof room with someone like Clay Davis. He would be squeaky clean for life after that. Maybe in a wheelchair too.
I thought I wanted to study Poly science but honestly, no offense lol but other than some cool historical stuff I can learn on my own it doesn't appear all that important if you have charisma and just watch The Wire! Economics (at least for pre-law) seems more rewarding even without pre-law.
Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister are great shows with a similar political theme. Very educational and entertaining. Really shows you how the bureaucracy and politics really work
Daniels shows how to handle two malignant narc's Remain calm, show no emotions, reveal nothing. State the facts and only talk in terms of the facts. Refuse to argue. Know when to exit.
Burrell doesn't strike me as a narcissist, more a careerist hack who does what he's told and doesn't think much outside of politics. Clay Davis though definitely is a narcissist.
Good god, he is just so SLEAZY. Give me a pair of brass knuckles and 30 minutes alone in a soundproof room with someone like Burrell or Clay Davis. He would be squeaky clean for life after that. Maybe in a wheelchair too.
a few years ago when they caught and convicted Whitey Bulger, they had this Duke law professor on the radio. He had worked as a federal prosecutor in Maryland and had been involved in the Bulger case. he made an offhand comment that the wire is so realistic it's practically non-fiction. so true. best show ever made in my opinion.
Just learned Lance Reddick has passed away. RIP to one of the most commanding actors who ever graced a television screen. Him and Michael K Williams so close together is a tragedy.
I think the thing I love most about The Wire is that it was never just about one thing. It's about the War on drugs, out of control homicides, the crumbling of the inner city education, politicians (corrupt and otherwise), police and their criminal stats game, the media and on and on. It was layered so expertly that its no wonder this is considered one of the best television shows of all time.
RIP, Lance Reddick. He had such a forceful imposing presence on screen. As if he was wearing the inner strength and nature of the strong character he was playing as a suit. My condolences to his family and friends, I wish them only the best. His fans certainly won't forget him. RIP.
What loved about this show, is that it showed the realities of Street men, businessmen, snakes, leaches, and that does include just about every corrupt politician, w the snakes and leaches, I think we loved this show for its realism, and the harsh realities of the same truth we still live in today.
It's really a shame we need bureaucrats. Unfortunately, they do all the shitty jobs we have no desire to do, because we have our own busy lives to lead. I *sure as fuck* don't want to be responsible for providing tons of people power, water, heat, shelter, transportation, law enforcement, other public services, etc. HELLLLLLLLL NO. Give that crappy job to some asshole in a suit. Unfortunately, when you give someone power like that, they inevitably become greedy, over-ambitious, and corrupt. Human nature. Shame, shame, SHAME.
Give me a pair of brass knuckles and 30 minutes alone in a soundproof room with someone like Burrell or Clay Davis. He would be squeaky clean for life after that. Maybe in a wheelchair too.
For anyone still confused, Daniels basically told Clay “You don’t got anything to be scared of if you don’t have anything to hide.” Clay just made himself look even more guilty be calling up Burrell to end the investigation.
@@leafsinseven If this is what you consider to be the most the obvious scene in the show, you haven’t watched the show and judging by your comment, you probably really are 4. Have a good day, goofy. 😂
@@akshaynatu1084 Oh, the Clay Davises of this world know, they know very well. And take the money anyway, hoping they don't get burnt. But hope isn't much of a legal defence.
People like Davis and Burrell use fear and then hopelessness and in that order. They tried to intimidate Daniels who was having none of it. Down the line they made Daniels know that he was in a hopeless situation and that's when he finally had enough and quit to become an attorney.
One of the best scenes on the police side of the show. Daniels was a great character. He has the best facial expressions, wish there were more videos just on Daniels.
What a wonderful mix of manipulation, lies, strength, integrity, honesty, coercion, collusion and bullying. this is one of the greatest 3 minutes in TV history.
Senator Davis sums up American Politics: We don't care who they are or what they want, we just cash the checks, count the votes and move on. The two party system then created the latest presidential election result............
Stellar performance!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The Wire" should have racked up on Emmys and the cast should have been invited to do panels/events -- like Comic-Con would host events! 👍🏿👍 I love the dynamics!!! Lieutenant Daniels simply trying to do his job, absolutely unmoved in his stance! Burrell straddling both sides of the fence --can't say one strong sentence either way! And what can I say about Clay Davis? I could say "sheeeeeeiiiiiit!" LOL. I love how Clay is trying to make big efforts to cite legitimacy to Daniels, but quick to let everybody in the room know that he can get down to it - corruption and all!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏👏👏👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿. If I was Daniels, I would have exited that shitshow and got back to minding my own business & earn my pay!😂
